Chapter 240 A Discarded Wife of the Elite
He said before leaving, "I'll take care of the discharge paperwork so we can go home. Make sure to prepare."
Lynda watched with a pleased smile on her face as his figure faded.
On their way back to the garden home, Sebastian was absorbed in his business calls. Lynda, not knowing anything about it at all, dared not to interject.
Kaine, who had been summoned to drive, was completely puzzled. The dynamics between Mr. Lawrence, Mrs. Lawrence, and Miss Lynda baffled him. However, as an assistant, he had no right to snoop about his boss's affairs.
Kaine dropped them off at the bungalow and drove off.
When Sebastian noticed that the car was still parked in front, his mood worsened. Isabella's fiery streak was nothing new to him, but he didn't anticipate her storming out of the car, especially while pregnant.
"Taxis are not welcome in this area Did she really leave on foot If so, where'd she go?" Sebastian thought to himself.
"What are you fantasizing about?" Lynda murmured, putting her arm around his. "Let's head inside."
He froze in place and said, "I just remembered... something came up. You'll have to eat alone tonight, so let's catch up another day."
Halfway through opening the door, Lynda froze. What happened during the last several minutes to make Sebastian change his mind?
A mixture of dread and annoyance filled Lynda, but she knew better than to force him. Making demands might backfire. She only quietly replied, "Okay,"
Sebastian acknowledged with a groan.
Just as he was about to leave, he accidentally overheard the servants' private remarks, "Mrs. Lawrence referred to herself as the other woman."
"Some people have a brilliant exterior but are completely hollow on the inside. They have no standing, no authority."
Sebastian came to a stop.
Lynda heard it as well, thinking that it was perfect timing.
This was her opportunity to incite conflict between Sebastian and Isabella and make him stay.
She glared at one of the staff members who saw her and trembled, about to say something.
The servant understood the message and said angrily, "Shameless wretch, ruining a family. She deserves hell!"
Lynda's lips turned into a sly smirk. She balled her fist, feeling hurt from those words combined with a rush of exhilaration. Her heart began to pound with both agony and excitement, just as she had expected.
With her eyes overflowing with tears, she gripped Sebastian's wrist. "Am I truly that like that? Am I really so awful?"
Sebastian instantly realized that the fine balance he'd always maintained seemed to be breaking, his lips forming a thin and cruel line.
A wave of guilt passed over him as he firmly responded, "No."
"If you say so, then that's good enough for me." Lynda sobbed as she leaned on him and said, "I don't care what others think; it's not important. Please, return to what you were doing."
"Sure. Thanks for your understanding."
"I'm glad that you praised me; it's really kind of you. However, this time I feel like I'm actually having an episode." As her legs buckled and she fell against him, her voice faded.
As he took her into his arms and stormed into the home, Sebastian felt the trembling in her body and frowned, his eyes narrowing.
"Mr. Lawrence! Y-you've returned!" A group of attendants arose in a frenzy, trembling with terror.
Sebastian ignored them as if they were invisible, taking the stairs two at a time in his haste.
His demeanor sent a chill down everyone's spine.
Sebastian moved swiftly once they were in the bedroom, giving Lynda a pill right away as his fingers trembled.
Soon, the neighborhood was filled with the sound of an ambulance.
Lynda's face was quite pale and showed very little vitality when she was in the hospital.
A few hours later, Sebastian was back outside the surgery room, slumped down in a chair with a gloomy face.
The last words his mother said to him rang in his ears, always telling him to look after the one who had helped them so much.
His eyes were focused on the surgery room door.
On the other hand, Isabella carried on with her routine at the office that afternoon. At the end of the day, she took a glance at Sebastian's closed office door.
He hadn't been in all afternoon.
She let out a cold laugh, thinking how deeply loyal he was.
That night, Isabella found herself alone in the vast emptiness of Willowbrook Estate, staring at a bowl of hot soup that had gone untouched with cold eyes.
Time seemingly passed uneventfully.
Two days later.
As the workday ended, Brittany knocked on Isabella's office door.
When Isabella heard the knock, she went to open the door since she was preparing to return to Willowbrook Estate.
"Brittany?" she smiled and asked. "Why are you here?"
Excluding Isabella, Brittany was often cold and cautious, rarely displaying her soft side.
Brittany proposed, "Isabella, let's have dinner together."
With no one bothering her, Isabella murmured, "Sure thing," all too eager for a little peace and quiet. She nodded without hesitation.
Brittany picked a laid-back diner that would be perfect for them, keeping in mind that Isabella was pregnant.
"No alcohol for us." Once Brittany placed her order, Isabella requested that the server withdraw the alcoholic beverages.
She turned to Brittany, "Last time at the hospital, the doctor said you had a serious cold uterus condition. You need to watch your diet and avoid alcohol, or else you won't be able to get pregnant in the future."
In fact, Brittany took Isabella's counsel and refrained from insisting on drinking wine.
Still, she laughed ironically, "Pregnant? That's a frightening concept. I hope that never happens, since having some scum's baby is simply unimaginable."
Isabella recalled how evasive and reserved Brittany had been the last time they were at a restaurant.
Speaking her mind at this point, had Joshua done her something... intolerable?
"You and Joshua..." Isabella frowned, her brows knitting together in concern. "Stop lying to me."
Brittany figured Isabella must have suspected something before.
She poked at the food in her bowl dish while staring down, ultimately too afraid to look up. "It's nothing, really, so don't worry. I am, as you guessed, his mistress."
Her chest tightening, Isabella filled Brittany's dish with food without saying anything.
Brittany said as she glanced up, "However, he hasn't touched me and has been acting incredibly gently around me recently. He treats me like a pet. He spends three days a week with me, and the rest, who knows? He's probably with Nicole,"
"And you?" She asked worriedly, "What happened so far? You look depressed."
Isabella shrugged and said, "Well, just the typical drama. I got into another argument with Lynda, and this time, I lost. It's been two days since Sebastian returned to Willowbrook Estate."
"Moreover, you're probably aware of the gossip within the company. They're calling me the elite's abandoned wife, saying I'll be kicked out."
Isabella's voice had a hint of bitterness even though she spoke softly.
She continued to stuff food into her mouth in an attempt to quell the stinging pain.
"What's your plan moving forward?" asked Brittany. "Will you be keeping your baby? If you ever need a doctor, I have a very good friend who is one."
