Chapter 294 Decided Not to Go for the Check-up
Sebastian sneered with his chest heaving as his mocking gaze swept through the room.
Hearing the voice, the butler anxiously stood by the door.
After Sebastian emerged, he gave the butler a cold glance. He ordered, "Get rid of everything in this room. Lock this side room from now on."
"Also, keep today's events to yourself," he added.
"Yes." the butler said.
Sebastian didn't utter another word and left, leaving the butler to stare at Sebastian's departing figure, silently sighing.
Isabella woke up and realized it was already noon.
During lunch, she received Kaine's call, informing her that Sebastian would be away on a business trip for the next two days, so the prenatal check-up would have to be postponed.
This was exactly what Isabella thought in mind, but she couldn't be happier.
"I understand. It's fine. I'll manage the check-up myself." she said.
After all, Isabella didn't want Sebastian to know about the twins for now, and it was a relief to know that she could keep it a secret every day.
While eating, Isabella made up her mind not to go for the check-up. It wouldn't be good if the secret were exposed.
"Madam, are you feeling... alright today?" After lunch, the butler asked in a low voice.
Isabella looked at the butler's hesitant expression, her brows furrowing in suspicion and confusion, asking, "Huh? Is something wrong?"
She pondered for a moment and asked back, "Should I be unhappy?"
The butler didn't dare to mention Sebastian's return and his outburst to Isabella. After all, it was Sebastian's affair; he shouldn't meddle.
"All right," Isabella cleared her throat, "You think that I'm feeling down and uncomfortable because Sebastian can't accompany me for the check-up, right?"
Isabella's eyes dodged a little, and she pretended that an eyelash had fallen into her eye. She rubbed it and said, "I do feel a bit down, but work is important. Butler, you don't need to worry about it."
She had almost exposed herself in her excitement just now!
Isabella silently noted this incident in her mind to avoid making a similar mistake in the future.
In the Lawrence Group President's office, the atmosphere was tense.
When Kaine was on the phone with Isabella, Sebastian had ordered the call to be put on speaker. Even after hanging up, the empty office still seemed to echo with Isabella's undisguised joy.
Kaine felt a tingling sensation on his scalp as he respectfully waited for Sebastian's next instructions.
Sebastian sat in his chair, facing the computer screen, with a cigarette between his fingers. The smoke curled around his face, shrouding it in mystery.
"Leave," he said indifferently.
Kaine nodded and turned to leave.
After the door closed, Sebastian extinguished the cigarette with force, a cold smirk forming at the corner of his mouth.
The computer was playing the real-time surveillance of Willowbrook Estate, and Sebastian effortlessly controlled every move Isabella made.
Her cheerful and relaxed demeanor upon learning about his business trip filled Sebastian with ire.
He self-mockingly laughed. All this time, he had refused to acknowledge Isabella's flaws. Just as Lynda had pointed out, Isabella didn't truly love him.
This woman toyed with his emotions, shamelessly deceived him, and humiliated him.
In this world, there was no one else who would dare to treat him like this.
How dare Isabella? How could she do this? Who gave her the courage and audacity?
He narrowed his eyes, a faint smile playing at the corner of his mouth as anger surged in his heart.
He was not going to let her off so easily.
As soon as the phone rang, Sebastian swiftly answered, lowering his voice. "Speak."
It was a call from the hospital, Joshua's attending physician, stating that the situation had changed.
Sebastian paused for a moment, then immediately got up and walked out with large strides.
Isabella rested at the Willowbrook Estate for a day and went to work at the company the next day.
What puzzled her was that Sebastian was on a business trip, Kaine didn't follow, and even Joshua, the leader, was away.
However, the Lawrence Group continued to operate smoothly, with all the work proceeding in an orderly manner.
The project Isabella was working on was now showing initial results. It was off to a good start, with promising prospects for the future.
This was a recognition of Isabella's abilities, which made her genuinely happy.
After work, Isabella met Brittany downstairs. Brittany seemed calm, but Isabella could tell that she had clearly lost weight.
The two walked side by side.
Isabella turned to look at Brittany and asked softly, "Larry... What's his situation now?"
Brittany stiffly shook her head, her face filled with guilt, saying, "He hasn't been released yet."
"Is Joshua insane?" Isabella exclaimed, "How many days has it been?"
Brittany brushed the hair hanging on the side of her face behind her ear, revealing her haggard face and her sharply defined chin.
"Yes, he went crazy a long time ago. I begged him to let Larry go, but he refused. Then I tried calling again, but none of the calls went through. He's probably preparing for his engagement to Nicole at the end of this month."
Brittany sneered, "After that, I tried many other connections, but Joshua wouldn't budge. What can I do?"
In just a few days, Isabella noticed that Brittany's once determined and independent demeanor was gradually diminishing.
"Brittany," panic rose in Isabella's heart. She tightly held Brittany's hand and said, "Don't give up. No one can defeat us."
Brittany's eyes turned red; then she looked up at the sky.
After regaining her composure, she said, "Isabella, nothing can bring me down. I've always believed that."
"But I've realized that I was wrong," her voice was soft and gentle. "Because of this wrong relationship with him, Joshua threatened my parents, and the company could collapse at any moment.
"My friend is still locked up, all because of me. All of this can defeat me."
As Brittany spoke, her voice choked up. "These past few days, I've been thinking, am I just unlucky? Does misfortune befall anyone who encounters me? If I were to die..."
"Brittany!" Isabella interrupted.
The word "die" startled Isabella, and her face turned ashen. A chill ran down her spine as she sternly interrupted Brittany.
"Isabella, I was just talking," Brittany's eyes regained their light as she gazed at Isabella, emphasizing each word, "The people who brought me to this point are still alive. Why should I die?"
Isabella nodded vigorously and agreed, "Exactly, that's absolutely right."
"Oh, by the way," Brittany seemed to remember something and furrowed her brows slightly, "I ran into Mr. Lawrence yesterday, and he said... I truly live up to being Mrs. Lawrence's best friend, quite ruthless. Do you know what that means?"
Coincidentally, as she asked, Isabella's phone vibrated and rang, receiving a call.
While Isabella took her phone out of her bag, Brittany had already finished speaking, and Isabella didn't pay much attention.
She exchanged a glance with Brittany and turned to answer the call.
"Grandpa Lawrence," she said respectfully.
