Chapter 479 I'll Spend the Rest of My Life Making It Up to You
Watching those two leave, Isabella made up her mind. She was heading to the second floor to print the divorce papers; this couldn't wait any longer.
Until Sebastian agreed to sign, she could print as many copies as needed.
It was 5:30 in the morning, and she didn't expect to see a long leg blocking her way as soon as she opened the door.
Isabella froze and looked down. It was Sebastian. He reeked of alcohol and was clearly drunk.
She thought, 'Why is he here? Wasn't he supposed to be with Lynda last night? Judging by his state, he wasn't. Could he have been at my door all night? Yeah, he's still in the same clothes from yesterday, and his hair's a mess. Doesn't look like he spent the night with Lynda.'
Isabella was stunned, her heart heavy with sorrow.
She suddenly couldn't bear to look at Sebastian and let him keep affecting her.
Isabella forced her stiff legs to move. Her steps quickened, and her heartbeat raced. Halfway down the hall, she pressed one hand against the wall and the other over her chest, closing her eyes to calm her breathing.
A pair of long arms wrapped around her from behind.
Isabella's back straightened, her eyes wide, staring blankly ahead.
"Do you not care at all that I slept with someone else?" A hoarse, alcohol-soaked voice asked.
"What happened to you? I chose you myself. I know your character. How could you cheat? Don't hide it from me, Isabella. Tell me the truth. I don't want to hurt you. Hurting you hurts me too. Tell me the truth," Sebastian's voice was rough. "Isabella, be good."
Isabella didn't need to look to know he was drunk and not in his right mind, with the smell of alcohol on his breath.
Of course, if he were sober, how could he say such things?
"You chose me," Isabella murmured softly. "You've said it yourself. Don't you know in your heart? You deceived me, you hid and schemed against me. Don't you know that clearly?"
A tear slid down Isabella's cheek.
With that, Isabella tilted her head back, holding back her tears. Then, she lowered her head and began to pry Sebastian's fingers off one by one.
Instead of prying his hands off, she was suddenly spun around and pressed against the wall.
"What did you say?"
Isabella met Sebastian's narrowed eyes.
Isabella was dumbfounded. "Aren't you drunk?"
Sebastian's head still hurt, but Isabella's words snapped him out of his daze.
His thoughts were a mess, even wondering if he was dreaming.
Sebastian gripped Isabella's wrist tightly, shocked by the implications of her words but too afraid to ask directly. He could only vaguely ask, "What did you say? What do you know?"
At this point, they were just one step away from revealing everything.
Isabella stared into Sebastian's locked eyes, not answering directly. She gave a bitter smile and said, "You know it."
The tight string in Sebastian's mind snapped, and his last bit of hope vanished. After a while, he couldn't say a word.
As they stood there in silence, Sebastian suddenly remembered the person he had been ignoring—Marcus!
He mused, 'That day, Marcus had clearly come out of the bathroom, and Isabella had clearly gone to the bathroom before escaping! Before going to the bathroom, Isabella was about to reconcile with me! It's all clear now. Marcus spilled the beans to Isabella. That's why she was so desperate to get away from me, even lying about being with Samuel.'
As for how Marcus knew, Sebastian didn't need to think much; Gabriel must've told him.
His heart burned with anxiety, and he turned away, coughing violently.
From Sebastian's reaction, Isabella could tell he knew everything now. There was no point in hiding it anymore. She smiled, "Surprised, aren't you? You thought someone as clueless as me would stay in the dark forever, right? I'm a person, Sebastian, not some pawn. How could you scheme against me?"
Isabella didn't want to cry, but the tears came anyway. "The Wallace family didn't have to go bankrupt so suddenly. Grandma didn't have to be hospitalized from the shock. And I didn't have to beg in the pouring rain, treating you, the culprit, as a hero. Naturally, I wouldn't have had to endure all the torment and grievances in this marriage, just to repay your so-called kindness!"
Isabella wiped her tears harshly, but they kept coming, making it impossible to dry them. "And all the suffering I've endured was because of your schemes for Lynda. How could loving you be so painful, so disgusting?"
Sebastian's heart felt like it was being torn apart. Isabella's words were like knives stabbing into his heart. His eyes were red, and he opened his mouth to say something, but the words were stuck in his throat.
In the business world, he was always decisive, but now his mind was blank. He forgot how to react and could only hold Isabella tightly.
He avoided her belly and hugged her tightly, as if trying to merge her into his flesh and blood.
"Let the past be the past, okay?" Sebastian whispered in Isabella's ear. "I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you."
Isabella closed her eyes and said coldly, "Sebastian, I didn't tell you the truth after I found out because I didn't want your compensation. I wanted to anger you so you'd kick me out of Willowbrook Estate, but now you know. Since that's the case, let's divorce and let each other go."
"I have no regrets about you or this marriage. The fault is all yours. Let me go." Isabella had said everything, leaving no room for negotiation.
Sebastian was in so much pain he couldn't stand. He had been too arrogant. If he had admitted his initial schemes and deceit earlier, things wouldn't have escalated to this point.
But he couldn't let her go.
She was like a beam of light, illuminating his cold and barren emotional world.
"Impossible. I will never let go of you, not in this lifetime!" Sebastian declared firmly and domineeringly.
Their voices were loud enough to wake the others in Willowbrook Estate. Carl was the first to come out. Seeing Sebastian holding Isabella tightly, he quickly gestured for the others to go back inside.
Then, just as Carl was about to return inside, Lynda came downstairs and asked Carl, "What's happening..."
"Get out!" Lynda had just started to talk when Sebastian interrupted her harshly. His eyes were red with anger as he glared at Carl and said fiercely, "Send her away! Send her out of the country! If she dares to run, break her legs and send her to the police!"
Lynda's face turned pale immediately. She thought, 'What's going on? Why am I being sent away again?'
