Chapter 292: Announcing Her Identity
From the sound of his voice, it seemed like he cherished her.
Isabella immediately covered her ears. Couldn't this man stop trying to sway her? He really knows how to act!
Study room.
Sebastian held a video conference, and several executives were surprised to find that the big boss seemed to be in a good mood today, and the meeting was not as tense as before.
After the meeting, Sebastian sat on the chair and took out a lighter, flicking it on and off.
The flames danced as if stepping to a drumbeat, stomping on his heart.
"Snap." Sebastian put it away and played with it in his hand.
Then, he dialed a number and waited for the other person to answer. "Grandfather, Isabella's birthday is coming up. I want to borrow the old house and announce her identity," Sebastian requested.
Elder didn't speak for a while, but after thinking it over, a hearty and powerful laughter sounded. "You brat, you finally know how to behave. This is a good birthday gift! Don't let the little girl down with your actions!" he reminded.
"You can rest assured, grandfather. I will personally take care of it and make sure my wife is treated well and with honor," Sebastian reassured.
"Thank you, grandfather," Sebastian thanked.
"Don't be polite. I did all this for my granddaughter-in-law and great-grandchild." Elder's words were full of pride, naturally revealing the joy that he couldn't hide.
Tenderness appeared in Sebastian's eyes. After hanging up the phone, he went back to the master bedroom.
He had been in the meeting for a long time, and Isabella had already fallen asleep.
After finishing tidying up, Sebastian instinctively embraced Isabella.
While doing so, Sebastian noticed a small blister on Isabella's fingertip.
Suddenly understanding, Sebastian realized it was a burn she accidentally got while preparing a cake for him.
He furrowed his brows and fetched the first aid kit, carefully treating her hand before leaving a gentle kiss on her delicate fingers.
After taking care of it, Sebastian got into bed and stared at the ceiling. His grip tightened, and his peripheral vision swept over Isabella's sleeping face as he closed his eyes.
This night was the warmest and most peaceful birthday he had ever experienced.
He didn't have any nightmares. It seemed that there was always a pair of hands holding him in his dreams, comforting him repeatedly, telling him that he didn't need to feel so guilty.
When he woke up in the morning, Sebastian still felt a bit reluctant to part with that dream.
"No..." A worried voice suddenly came from beside him.
Sebastian turned his head and saw Isabella furrowing her brows, anxiously holding onto the bedsheet beneath her.
Sebastian shifted closer, staring intently at her.
"Isabella," he grasped the hand she was clutching, calling out softly.
Unexpectedly, Isabella was hurt and curled up with her back turned to him.
Her slender shoulders trembled slightly. "I don't love you," she said.
Sebastian felt empty in his palm, these words came so suddenly that his face immediately darkened.
Various strange feelings surged before, and it seemed...at this moment, he had the answer.
In the silent room, everything was so quiet that even the sound of the heartbeat could be heard. Sebastian suppressed the pain in his chest and regained his composure.
He gently patted Isabella's shoulder and whispered, "It's just a nightmare, I'm here."
Isabella allowed Sebastian to pat her, her tense body slowly relaxed, and her breathing was no longer as rapid as before.
Sebastian simply regarded it as a nightmare and didn't think much about it, or maybe he didn't dare to delve into it at all.
Because ever since he held his hand after hearing those words, it had remained unopened.
A layer of mist covered that handsome face, making it indistinct.
But Isabella didn't know anything, not even that she had had a nightmare. She had completely forgotten about it.
Therefore, when they were having breakfast, Sebastian asked her what nightmare she had last night, and she looked confused.
"Huh?" Isabella yawned, "I had a nightmare? I don't remember."
Sebastian nodded, and said, "You did, but you forgot."
"It's okay, it was just a dream. My psychology teacher once said that the memories a person can have, are just the tip of the iceberg."
Isabella casually commented, thinking that Sebastian was just asking casually as well.
But his indifferent expression told her that it seemed different.
"Did I say anything in my dream last night?" Isabella took a nervous sip of warm water and asked Sebastian.
"You said that..." Sebastian paused, meeting Isabella's lively eyes. "Never mind, it was just a dream."
He stood up and the butler handed him his coat.
"I have some business to attend to at the company. I'll accompany you for a prenatal check-up in the afternoon. Rest at home in the morning." Sebastian said.
Prenatal check-up?
Isabella instantly became uneasy. What if Sebastian found out about the twins?
Although...Brittany denied her unrealistic idea, she still hadn't completely given up.
Sebastian buttoned up his coat one by one and noticed Isabella's hesitation. He dangerously narrowed his eagle eyes, and asked, "Is there a problem?"
"No," Isabella said and smiled sweetly. "Of course, it's great to have you accompany me. I just don't want to bother you."
"I'll go with you." Sebastian dropped this statement without giving her a chance to speak and lifted his wrist to check the time on his watch before striding out the door.
Isabella got up and walked him to the door, standing at the entrance and waving at him, pretending to be relaxed with a bright smile. "Stay safe," she said.
In the car, Sebastian rolled down the window and glanced lightly at her, one look enough to see through her disguise.
Between his eyebrows, a layer of frost appeared, and the pressure around him suddenly dropped.
He closed his eyes and restlessly tugged at his tie.
Sebastian couldn't help but wonder, how angry would he be if Isabella truly didn't love him and was just pretending?
Strangle her? Bind her? Imprison her?
Not enough!
Sebastian tapped his knee with his index finger and after a moment, grabbed his phone.
He wanted to investigate Isabella, but he couldn't bring himself to give that command.
Sebastian gnawed on his lip and gripped the phone tightly, exerting enough force to crush it.
Back at the company, Sebastian continued to handle his business as usual, with a high level of efficiency.
However... whenever he had a moment to spare, his mind would be filled with the sentence Isabella uttered when she woke up from her nightmare in the morning.
"Tic-toc." Sebastian's email made a sound signaling the arrival of a new message.
Isabella had taken up most of Sebastian's energy, so he immediately clicked on the email. It contained an audio clip.
He played it right away.
"Have your relationship with Mr. Lawrence recently improved? Based on what I observed, it seems like things have gotten better between you two," a cold female voice came out of the recording, Brittany speaking.
Sebastian snapped back to attention, his gaze burning as he stared at the screen. Suddenly, he had an impulse to close this audio clip.
But it was futile.
He heard Isabella's cold reply, "No, it's all an act."
In an instant, Sebastian's expression became shocked, with a mix of surprise and a gaze that seemed like a sharp sword piercing through the screen.
Meanwhile, Brittany and Isabella's conversation continued on, unaffected by his momentary pause.
