Chapter 106 The Lewis Family in Dire Straits

General Neil's secretary, Daniel, fainted when he heard what Free King had said. However, fainting didn't change a thing.

Daniel had climbed to his position through shady means. If anyone dug deep, they'd find dirt.

In the grand hall of the Imperial Residence, hundreds had gathered. Yet no one said a word.

The atmosphere was tense. The sound of leather shoes echoed.

Two armed soldiers came and took the unconscious Daniel away.

Even high-ranking Neil was pale, sweat beading on his forehead.

He was baffled. "What's going on?"

Neil had no clue what was happening. The first person he met after arriving in Sunset City was Free King.

Everything was fine until Free King showed up at the Imperial Residence.

Free King glanced at Chris. At that glance, Chris collapsed, his legs giving out.

Free King walked over in his leather shoes and said, "Chris, deputy captain of a special police unit in Neon City?"

Chris lay on the floor, his face drenched in cold sweat.

Free King pulled out a report and tossed it on the ground. "Read it."

Chris picked the report up, read it, and his eyes rolled back as he fainted.

"Chris." Stella held the unconscious Chris.

Victor, curious, picked up the report from the floor.

His face turned ghostly pale after he read it.

It was a list of Chris's corrupt activities since taking office, detailing every bribe he had taken over the years.

"Take him away." With Free King's command, two armed soldiers came and dragged the unconscious Chris away.

Stella cried her heart out. The Lewis Family members looked at each other, stunned.

"What are you standing around for? Do I need to take all of you away? Get out," Free King roared.

Free King was furious that Larry was always getting him into trouble.

The wealthy individuals in the Imperial Residence slunk away as if granted amnesty.

Outside the Imperial Residence, Frank watched the scene through surveillance and couldn't help but smirk. "Mr. Bennett, you first elevate the Lewis Family, then let them fall hard. That's quite a fall."

Larry smoked a cigarette, looking composed.

At this moment, all the wealthy individuals who had come to attend Victor's birthday party had left, even taking their gifts with them.

They had thought the Lewis Family was on the rise.

It turned out to be a misunderstanding.

After completing Larry's instructions, Free King left.

"Victor, gather the three billion as soon as possible," Sue said before leaving.

After everyone had left, only the Lewis Family and some important relatives remained in the Imperial Residence villa.

Outside the Imperial Residence, Free King stood in front of a black car with no license plate. He coldly stared at Larry, who was sitting in the car. "This is the last time."

With that, Free King turned and walked away.

"Have a cigarette."Larry took out a cigarette and tossed it over.

The cigarette brushed past Free King's ear. He reached out and caught the flying cigarette instantly, then left under the staring of Larry and Frank.

A grand banquet ended in a farce.

The whole Lewis Family gathered together at their villa.

Victor's face was extremely grim.

It was utterly humiliating. What he thought would be the most glorious moment of his life turned out to be the most embarrassing.

Moreover, Sue from the Epoch Group demanded the Lewis Family compensate three billion dollars.

The Lewis Family couldn't possibly come up with that amount.

"What the hell happened?" Victor raged, smashing everything in the room, including antiques and furniture.

In the vast villa, dozens of people had gathered.

But none of the Lewis Family members spoke.

Everyone knew Victor was furious, and speaking up now would only bring trouble.

After his outburst, Victor calmed down, sat on the sofa, and looked at Maria's family with a pleading expression. "Maria, you're the only one who can save the Lewis Family now. Isn't your niece Helen working at the Epoch Group? She came with Miss Cox, didn't she? You're the only one who can help now."

"I..." Maria also looked troubled.

Chloe, sitting on the sofa with a grim expression, said softly, "Grandpa, Helen colluded with Larry."

Victor slammed his hand on the table. Even at eighty, he still had considerable strength, and the table shook with the impact. "It doesn't matter if they colluded. As long as we can get through this crisis, nothing else matters. Chloe, call Larry back. Isn't Larry in cahoots with Helen? Get Larry to come home and have him step in."

"Grandpa." Chloe was on the verge of tears.

She thought, 'To avoid paying the three billion, I have to call Larry?'

"Grandpa, you expelled him from the Lewis Family. If you want to call him, do it yourself. I won't do it."

"Chloe, this is no small matter. We're talking about the chairman of the Epoch Group. You saw today that Free King has a special relationship with her. These are real big shots we can't afford to offend. Our entire Lewis Family is worth at most two billion, which means we can't come up with three billion."

At this moment, Victor had none of his previous grandeur. He seemed to have lost his spirit, his old face devoid of any color. "I'm begging you, okay?"

"I..." Chloe hesitated.

Maria also said, "Chloe, why not let Larry come back?"

Harry glanced at Chloe and said, "Chloe, you're now the executive chairman of the Lewis Group, and your family holds 50% of the shares. If the family falls, it won't be good for you either. Now that there's a chance to get through this crisis, you can't let your personal feelings put the Lewis Family in jeopardy."

"Yes, Chloe, it's all up to you now."

"Larry just got a bit too close to a woman. It's no big deal."

"Right, Helen came with Miss Cox. If we can ease the relationship and get close to Helen, the Lewis Family will really hit it big."

The Lewis Family members all urged Chloe.

"Chloe, hurry up and call Larry back. My luxury car, my mansion, it all depends on him now," Sam said anxiously.

Seeing a good life within reach, Sam didn't want to offend Sue because of the banquet and cause the Lewis Family to go bankrupt.

Chloe said, "I'll try."

She stood up, walked to the door, and then took out her phone to call Larry.

In fact, Chloe didn't really want a divorce. She wanted to give Larry another chance because  Chloe remembered how good Larry had been to her.

Without Larry, Chloe would still have been the most hated ugly girl in Sunset City.

Without Larry, there wouldn't have been the Chloe of today.

At Mortal Clinic, Larry had been staring at his phone.

He knew Chloe would definitely call him.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before Chloe called.

Larry's face lit up with joy. He glanced at Frank and said smugly, "See, I told you, put the Lewis Family in crisis, and they'll definitely come begging me."

"No need to make it so complicated," Frank said helplessly.

It was just a marital spat, but it had escalated to involve so many people. Even Free King had to step in.

Larry ignored Frank, answered the phone, and said lazily, "Chloe, I told you, the government office isn't open today, so we can't get the divorce papers done."

"Larry, come back to the Lewis Family villa. We need to discuss something. It's not... it's not about the divorce."

Larry pretended to be clueless and asked, "What's it about?"

"It's hard to explain over the phone. Just come over."

"Alright, I'll come over." Larry hung up the phone and then said smugly, "Frank, I'm off."
