Chapter 282: Making Up for the Regrets of Youth?
Seeing Chloe's astonished expression, Abigail pursed her lips and smiled, "Just kidding, he's so unambitious, I wouldn't like him. I prefer men with capability."
Chloe breathed a sigh of relief.
For a second, she really thought Abigail had fallen for Larry.
"Abigail, you scared me to death. You can't just say things like that. If you say it in front of him, he'll start showing off and get all arrogant again."
"Yes, I know." Abigail pursed her lips and chuckled.
The meal was quickly finished.
After the meal, outside the restaurant, Abigail held Chloe's hand and said, "Chloe, you go back first. I'll go to the company with Larry."
Larry was puzzled. Who said he was going to the company?
"Abigail, my position is different from yours. You're a company leader, and I'm just a small salesperson. I don't need to report to the company every day; my job is to run business outside."
"I know." Abigail gently brushed her hair and smiled, "Even though you don't need to go to the company every day, there's a meeting in the business department today. Since you have to go anyway, let's go together."
"A meeting? Why didn't I get a notice?" Larry looked dissatisfied. What was Abigail up to?
Seeing Larry's reluctance, Chloe got angry and scolded, "Larry, what are you doing? You need to take your job seriously. How can you be like this? The company gives you a base salary of five thousand dollars a month. You need to live up to that five thousand dollars."
Saying this, Chloe looked at Abigail with a hint of pleading on her face, "Abigail, you're the vice president of the Epoch Group. Larry works in your company. Please help him more at work and make him pay more attention."
"I know," Abigail said with a smile.
Then she looked at Larry with a smile, "Let's go."
"Honey."
"Just go already."
"Alright."
Larry looked helpless.
Abigail pointed to a spot not far away and said, "My car is over there, let's go."
Larry nodded helplessly.
Abigail smiled and waved to Chloe, "Chloe, there's something at the company, so I won't see you off."
Larry muttered under his breath, "Didn't you say you took leave before lunch?"
But seeing Chloe's look, he immediately shut his mouth.
Chloe smiled and said, "It's okay, I'll just take a cab back. You go ahead, work comes first."
"Bye-bye."
Abigail waved goodbye to Chloe.
Larry followed Abigail and got into her car.
Abigail used to be part of the Martinez family, a big family. Although her family was expelled from the clan, she was a vice president abroad with an annual salary of tens of millions of dollars. Her car was also a luxury car.
After getting in the car, Larry smelled a charming fragrance, the same as Abigail's perfume.
He hadn't slept all night last night.
Sitting in the passenger seat, he yawned.
He couldn't help but take out a cigarette and light it.
Smoke filled the car.
Abigail frowned and said, "Who allowed you to smoke in my car?"
Larry said nonchalantly, "Abigail, I think you don't understand the superior-subordinate relationship. I'm your boss. Watch your tone, or I'll have you leave my company."
Abigail looked disdainful.
If Larry were just her boss, she would definitely be respectful.
But Larry was not just her boss; he was also her first love.
"Larry, you owe me an explanation, don't you think?"
She turned to look at Larry.
Larry felt guilty but pretended to be indifferent, "Explanation? Of what? Have you ever seen a boss explain things to an employee?"
"Larry, don't pretend you don't know. What's going on with all this?"
"What do you mean? I don't know what you're talking about. Aren't you going to the company? Hurry up, I'm tired and need to sleep in the office."
Abigail questioned, "Why did you approach Chloe? It's one thing to marry into the Lewis family, but why do you help her secretly without letting her know? And what happened in Cedar Grove? You were clearly alive, so why was there news of your death and a national mourning? You don't know how long I was heartbroken when I thought you were dead."
"You were alive, so why didn't you come back to find me? You don't know I waited for you for ten years. And when you did appear, knowing I was looking for you, why didn't you show up?"
Abigail pressed Larry with a series of questions, giving him a headache.
"That's my business. Why should I tell you? We only dated ten years ago. That was just a school romance, nothing but a joke. I only held your hand, not even kissed you. That doesn't count as a relationship now."
Larry said nonchalantly.
Abigail, with a seductive look, leaned closer.
Her face was almost touching Larry's.
Larry could feel her breath on his face.
It stimulated his nerves.
She pursed her lips and smiled, "Larry, are you hinting at something? I really don't need to go to the company today. How about we get a room nearby and make up for the regrets of our youth?"
Larry was scared.
He was afraid of this charming beauty, Abigail.
She was extremely beautiful, with a sexiness and allure that Chloe didn't have.
Larry hurriedly explained, "That's not what I meant. I'm just telling you to forget about what happened ten years ago. You're not young anymore; you should think about your future. How about this? I'll introduce you to a boyfriend, someone in politics, wealthy, or in the military. Whatever you like, I'll find one for you."
"You're no fun."
Abigail sat up straight.
She started the car and drove away.
"Larry, I was just kidding. I know you're married now, and your wife is my good friend. No matter how much I fantasize, I wouldn't be foolish enough to compete with Chloe."
Hearing this, Larry finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"By the way."
Abigail asked again, "I won't force you to come clean of all your secrets, but you have to tell me why you're hiding things from Chloe. You've been married for so long, but she doesn't know your identity or that you're the one helping her secretly."
Larry hesitated slightly.
Then he said, "She saved me ten years ago. And she got burned to do that. Ten years ago, to survive, I abandoned her, making her suffer for ten years."
"I ended up in Southwild."
"I served in the military for ten years, promoted from a soldier to a ranking officer."
"I came back this time mainly to repay her."
"But in my position, many people are watching my every move. I don't want my identity to bring trouble to Chloe. So before coming back, I applied for resignation, intending to protect her as an ordinary person for life."
"I planned to tell her after resigning."
"But after resigning, a series of events happened, things are beyond my control. Honestly, I can't even protect myself now. I don't want Chloe to be in danger."
Abigail listened intently.
Hearing this, she couldn't help but feel envious, "I really envy Chloe. If I could switch places, I'd rather be Chloe."
