Chapter 458 Esmeralda's Illness
After visiting the families of his fallen comrades, Larry bought a ticket and headed back to Sunset City.
He arrived in Sunset City that afternoon.
Paisley asked, "Larry, what's your next move?"
"I need to help someone."
Larry had promised Xerxes to cure Esmeralda.
Xerxes was a devoted father who would spare no expense for his daughter. When Larry asked for money last time, Xerxes immediately gave him three billion dollars without hesitation. This wasn't just because Larry was the Black Dragon, a national hero, but also because he was the only one who could save Esmeralda.
After leaving the airport, Larry hailed a cab and headed straight to Esmeralda's house.
By the time he arrived, it was already six in the evening.
At the gate of Esmeralda's villa, he pressed the doorbell.
The gate opened quickly.
Larry and Paisley walked in.
As they approached the front door, it opened, revealing a middle-aged man standing there.
He was Yorick, the butler of the Vale family.
Yorick greeted respectfully, "Mr. Bennett, you're here."
"Yeah," Larry nodded. "How's Esmeralda?"
Yorick sighed, "Not good. The virus in her body has been increasing. We've been relying on medication to keep it at bay, but now the medicine isn't working anymore."
"I'll take a look."
Larry entered the house.
The temperature in the living room was set very high, making it feel like a sauna, stifling and hot.
A woman was sitting on the couch, wrapped in thick blankets, with only her head exposed.
She was Esmeralda.
Besides Esmeralda, there was a young woman in her twenties, Trinity.
As Larry approached, Trinity stood up and greeted him sweetly, "Larry, you're back?"
"Yeah." Larry nodded.
"Larry..." Esmeralda spoke, but she seemed very cold, her teeth chattering.
Larry sat beside her and said, "Let me check your pulse."
Esmeralda extended her hand.
Her hand was pale, almost bloodless. When Larry touched it, it felt like ice, chilling to the bone.
Larry held her wrist, his expression turning serious.
The cold in Esmeralda's body was overwhelming, affecting her bodily functions. Her blood flow was slow, and some organs were damaged. Without treatment, she wouldn't survive much longer.
Paisley also looked at Esmeralda.
She had heard about Esmeralda's condition.
As a member of the Bennett family, Paisley came from a long line of medical practitioners, learning from Cody since childhood.
"Can I take a look?" she asked.
"Sure." Larry released Esmeralda's hand.
Paisley sat down and took Esmeralda's pulse.
"So cold." She was shocked, unable to help but exclaim.
After checking the pulse for several seconds, she also channeled a bit of Qi.
However, the Qi entered Esmeralda's body and disappeared instantly, like a drop in the ocean.
Larry asked, "Did you find anything?"
Although Larry had studied the second volume of the medical scriptures, it mainly covered the use of the Against Heaven 81 Needles, meditation techniques, and martial arts, which he hadn't fully explored yet.
He couldn't diagnose Esmeralda's condition.
Paisley frowned in thought for a few seconds, then asked, "Besides feeling cold, do you have any other symptoms?"
Esmeralda replied, "Yes, sometimes I have headaches, dizziness, and palpitations."
Paisley glanced at Larry and said, "If I'm not mistaken, this is an extremely rare condition. She's a martial arts prodigy."
"A martial arts prodigy?" Larry was taken aback.
"Yeah," Paisley explained. "When I took her pulse, a bit of Qi entered her body but was immediately consumed by the cold within her. The cold in her body is strange and dominant. If she had trained in martial arts from a young age with proper guidance, she could have harnessed this cold to develop ice Qi, using it to her advantage. She wouldn't feel cold and would become a true master."
She shook her head slightly and sighed, "But she missed the best time to start training. It's a bit late now."
"What are you talking about? Martial arts... ice Qi?" Esmeralda asked, her teeth chattering, struggling to speak clearly.
"It's about absorbing the cold in your body and turning it into a powerful force," Larry patiently explained.
After a lengthy explanation, Esmeralda finally understood.
Larry then asked Paisley, "So how do we solve this now?"
Paisley replied, "First, we need to expel the cold from her body to restore her health. Then, we can teach her the training methods. If the cold reappears, she can absorb it and turn it into her own Qi."
"Okay," Larry said. "Do you have a way? If not, I'll have to do it."
Larry could indeed expel the cold, but it required her to be completely undressed, which was inappropriate given their genders and her age.
"I have a way, but I think expelling it directly would be a waste. Remember how you used special silver needles to gather your grandfather's Qi and break through his blockages? We could gather her cold Qi. If it can be absorbed, it would greatly enhance Qi."
Larry was intrigued.
He had just started learning about Qi cultivation and wasn't very familiar with it.
"You mean, I should absorb this cold Qi and convert it into my own Qi?"
Paisley nodded, "Yes, theoretically, this cold is the purest form of ice Qi. Esmeralda can't control it, so it's wasted. Absorbing it would save a lot of training time."
"I'll think about it." Larry sat on the couch, deep in thought.
"Qi guidance?" he murmured.
Paisley's suggestion was essentially Qi guidance: channeling one person's Qi into another's body and absorbing it.
The second volume of the medical scriptures didn't mention this method.
But the Against Heaven 81 Needles were miraculous. Even without them, using ordinary silver needles might work.
After a while, he said, "It might be possible, but I need to think it over."
Larry's understanding of the second volume was still in the research stage, with many aspects not fully grasped.
Paisley said, "Take your time to think it over. I'll stay here with Esmeralda. With me around, she'll be safe. But if I'm not with you, someone might target you."
Larry waved his hand slightly, "Even without Qi, my external martial arts are at their peak. I can handle a strong opponent."
"True," Paisley nodded.
Even without Qi, Larry's strength was formidable.
"I'll head back then," Larry stood up.
The second volume was at the Lewis family estate.
He hadn't returned since saving Trinity.
To study the second volume, he needed to go back.
"Larry, are you going back to the Lewis family?" Trinity asked.
"Yeah," Larry nodded.
"Should I go with you?" she asked.
Larry thought for a moment, "You stay here for now. I'll go back, find a solution, and come back immediately."
