Chapter 61 I Used to Be a General
Free King's appearance didn't affect Larry's mood.
After resolving Chloe's issue, she personally called him to come back.
He was in a good mood and humming a tune, looking relaxed and carefree.
Soon, he arrived at Chloe's house.
She knocked on the door and the door opened.
It was Chloe who opened the door.
As soon as she saw Larry, Chloe cried aggrievedly and threw herself into Larry's arms.
With a beautiful woman in his arms, a charming feminine fragrance entered his nose, stimulating him.
Larry reached out, gently hugged her shoulders, and said with a smile, "It's okay now. Don't cry. If you keep crying, you won't be pretty anymore."
Chloe then stopped crying.
She pulled Larry inside.
The whole family was in the house. But their faces were all indifferent.
Larry walked over. "Maria."
Maria nodded at him, acknowledging him, and said, "Larry, don't blame us. We had no choice."
"Maria, I don't blame you. It's all my fault for not being capable enough to solve the problems for you." Larry smiled.
He really didn't blame anyone.
Moreover, if Larry had to blame someone, it wouldn't be Chloe.
No matter what she did, he could accept it. This was his debt to her.
Larry sat down and immediately took out two invitations, handing them to Chloe and asking, "Chloe, do you know Kelly?"
Chloe took the invitations from Larry, looking puzzled. "Kelly, I have some impression. I remember she was also at Sunset City University, but two years below me. She was the campus queen, very beautiful, with countless admirers. I heard she was from Aurora Citadel, a member of the big family. What's up?"
Larry said, "I don't know either. On the way back, I met her. She said her birthday is tomorrow and she's having a birthday party at the Sunset City Hotel. She gave you an invitation."
Hearing this, Chloe opened the invitation.
Sure, it was inviting her and Larry, which was signed by Kelly.
Chloe was puzzled. "I don't even know her. Why would she invite me?"
Larry shrugged and said, "I don't know. She personally delivered the invitation. I couldn't refuse, so I brought it back for you."
Chloe glanced at Larry, showing jealousy. "It's reasonable to invite me since we went to the same school, but inviting you..."
Larry quickly explained, "Chloe, I swear that I don't know her at all. I've never even seen her."
"I'm just saying. Look how scared you are," Chloe added.
At that moment, Chloe's WhatsApp group message notification sounded.
She took out her phone and opened the WhatsApp group messages.
Unknown: [Big news. Kelly from our school sent me an invitation for her 25th birthday tomorrow and she's having a birthday party at the Sunset City Hotel.]
Unknown: [I got an invitation too.]
Unknown: [I'm puzzled. Is her really the campus queen Kelly from two years below us? The one from the big family in Aurora Citadel? The current chairman of the Everlife Group, Kelly?]
Unknown: [Yes, the person who delivered the invitation said so. It's that Kelly!]
The WhatsApp group, which had been silent for a long time, suddenly became lively.
Dozens of classmates in the group had all received invitations.
Seeing these messages, Chloe was puzzled. "What's going on? Our class had no interaction with Kelly. Why did she send invitations to everyone?"
"Chloe, this is your chance." Maria, who was also looking at Chloe's phone, said, "I know the Everlife Group is a big corporation, second only to Legion Lord in Sunset City. It's also a partner of major hospitals. Now that Kelly has invited you, you must go. This is the best opportunity to expand your social circle."
Despite this, Chloe was still bewildered.
Why would the famous chairman of the Everlife Group send invitations to her classmates?
Larry asked, "Chloe, are you going?"
"Of course, I'm going." Chloe raised her head.
Back in school, Chloe was a laughingstock without confidence and felt inferior.
Now that she had regained her looks, her confidence had soared.
Larry nodded and said, "This is a big event. The clothes in your wardrobe are too low-end. Let's go out and buy some. Look, you're not wearing any jewelry."
"Nonsense, my clothes are fine. I think they're okay," Chloe pouted.
She had no money to buy clothes.
Larry knew what she was thinking and said with a smile, "Let's go. I have money. Isn't my card with you? It's my savings from the past ten years. I've saved quite a bit."
"No." Chloe shook her head.
She wasn't a wasteful person and had no pursuit of luxury goods.
"Of course, we should go," Maria said, "Chloe, this is a big party. It's the birthday party of the chairman of the Everlife Group. We can't look shabby, and we need to buy a gift."
"Okay." Chloe couldn't argue and had to nod.
"Alright, let's go." Larry reached out to hold her hand.
Chloe instinctively dodged.
After dodging, she realized it was inappropriate and immediately took Larry's hand, giving him an apologetic smile.
Larry also smiled faintly.
The two held hands and went out together.
Larry rode an electric scooter.
Chloe sat in the back, holding his waist, her head buried in his back.
Larry didn't want to ride the electric scooter forever and planned to buy a car. He couldn't help but ask, "Chloe, what kind of car do you like?"
"Like?" Chloe was slightly stunned and said, "We went to a car show this morning. I saw a red Ferrari sports car. It's so beautiful. If I have money in the future, I'll buy one."
Chloe was cheering herself on.
She wasn't chasing luxury cars and just liked them. It would be so cool to drive such a car.
Larry said, "If you like it, let's buy it."
Chloe knocked on his head and scolded, "Don't say such unrealistic things. Do you know how much it costs? It's a limited-edition Ferrari supercar. I saw the price, over two million dollars. Even if we sold you, we couldn't still afford it."
Larry said, "Chloe, I'm going to tell you the truth, but you can't get mad."
"Go ahead," Chloe added.
He whispered, "I used to be a big shot in Southwild. Because I used my position to make some money, I was demoted to a soldier and eventually discharged."
Chloe exclaimed, "You, you..."
"You said you wouldn't get mad," Larry chimed in.
She angrily slapped Larry on the head and scolded, "Why did you do something illegal?"
"It's not illegal. Do you know Southwild? It's on the border of eighteen countries. There are many rich people, but it's chaotic. These rich people give money to Southwild's generals for protection. I took some, and my superiors found out, so I was discharged. So, I have some money. If you like, we can buy a car," Larry explained.
"I can't take it." Chloe refused directly. "Larry, I'm warning you. I don't care what you did before, but you can't do anything illegal with me."
"Chloe, it's not illegal. It's common in Southwild. I was just unlucky to be caught by my superiors. Other generals made more than me. After making money, they retired, bought luxury cars and houses, and lived freely." Larry began to gradually let Chloe accept his identity.
If Chloe could accept this, she wouldn't be too surprised to accept him as Black Dragon in the future.
"Really?" She didn't quite understand. But she knew that taking bribes was wrong.
Larry nodded. "Of course. Our boss, Black Dragon, you know, one of the Five Great Marshals, on par with Free King, made even more. He even attacked enemy countries, seized their gold mines, and sold them to other bosses, making billions of dollars."
Chloe exclaimed, "That much?"
