Chapter 409 Free Army Blocked
Larry had been waiting at home, anxiously.
Waiting for news from Free, waiting for Alden to return to Sunset City.
Free had mentioned that the research facility had military backing. Even though he was the highest military commander across five states, the guards at the facility were from the Legion of Flame Surge. If the Legion presented official documents, he couldn't just storm in.
If Free couldn't handle it, Larry would have to take matters into his own hands.
Free mobilized quickly.
Helicopters and thousands of soldiers were deployed.
Soon, they arrived at the mountain range where the research facility was located.
Outside the facility.
There were quite a few guards here. They weren't wearing military uniforms, but they stood straight, weapons in hand.
"What's that noise?" The guards heard a sound and looked up, seeing a swarm of helicopters in the distance.
Someone pulled out binoculars, saw the insignia on the helicopters, and their face changed. They shouted urgently, "Quick, report this! The Free Army is here!"
Inside the research base, in the office.
Two men were sitting.
One was a man with a scar.
The other was a middle-aged man in his forties.
This middle-aged man was Bobby Owens, the deputy commander of the Legion of Flame Surge and one of the heads of the research base.
They were chatting.
Suddenly, there was a hurried knock on the door.
"Come in," Bobby said.
The door opened, and a man in a black suit walked in, shouting, "Sir, the Free Army is approaching the base."
"What?" Bobby and the scarred man stood up simultaneously.
The scarred man looked serious and said, "They must be here for Trinity. I didn't expect Larry, even though he's no longer with the Black Dragon, to convince Free to deploy troops."
He looked at Bobby and asked, "What do we do now?"
Bobby, shocked at first, calmed down and waved his hand slightly, saying, "No worries. The base has Alistair's secret orders. The Free Army won't dare to storm in. Alistair will come overnight. I'll go out and take a look."
Bobby walked out.
Outside.
The Free Army had arrived quickly.
Helicopters hovered in the air, doors opened, ropes dropped, and fully armed soldiers descended.
One helicopter landed slowly on a flat area.
Free, in full battle gear, stepped off the helicopter.
At this moment, the guards of the research base approached.
Leading them was Bobby.
Seeing the base surrounded, he didn't flinch.
He walked over, looked at Free, and asked, "Free, what's the meaning of this?"
Free glanced at him and asked, "I received a report that a girl was kidnapped from Sunset City tonight. The police traced her to this location, but the heavy security here meant they couldn't act, so they handed the case over to the military."
Bobby chuckled darkly and said, "Free, you sure have a wide reach."
Free ignored Bobby and ordered, "Military enforcement. Anyone not involved, step aside. Anyone who obstructs, will be killed without mercy."
"Yes, sir." The loud, unified response echoed as thousands of soldiers advanced.
The guards of the research base, the Legion of Flame Surge, instantly raised their weapons.
Free said coldly, "What, you want to stop me?"
Bobby replied, "Free, this is an important research base guarded by the Aurora Citadel Legion of Flame Surge. The Legion has enforcement rights nationwide. Even though you are the highest military commander, you don't have enforcement rights here."
"Legion of Flame Surge?" Free sneered, "You say it's the Legion of Flame Surge, and I'm supposed to believe it? Move in."
"Anyone who steps forward will be killed without mercy," Bobby shouted.
The guards of the research base and the Free Army faced off.
A battle was imminent.
Bobby didn't want to push Free too hard. He took out his credentials and handed them to Free, saying, "Bobby Owens, deputy commander of the Legion of Flame Surge. Here are my credentials."
Free took them and glanced at them casually.
Then Bobby handed over a document, saying, "This is a military research base. The project is classified. Free, I can't disobey your orders, but my duty is to protect this base. If you insist on storming in, I'll have to fight to the death. Please don't make it hard for me."
Free looked serious.
He had anticipated this outcome before coming.
After thinking for a moment, he ordered, "Withdraw."
"Yes, sir."
The Free Army retreated instantly.
After retreating, Free took out his phone and called Larry.
"Larry, I'm really sorry. The Legion of Flame Surge presented documents. I can't storm in."
Larry had already guessed this outcome. He took a deep breath and said, "I understand. Withdraw your troops. I'll handle this."
Larry hung up the phone.
He went upstairs and returned to his room.
Chloe was already lying down but hadn't fallen asleep.
Seeing Larry come in and take out a set of tight clothes from the wardrobe to change into, then put on a large robe, she asked, "Honey, why are you changing clothes? Are you going out?"
Larry didn't say a word.
After changing, he turned to look at Chloe sitting on the bed and nodded, "Yeah, I have something to take care of. I might not be back tonight. You should sleep early."
With that, he waved his sleeve and turned to leave.
Chloe frowned and muttered, "Going out so late?"
She wanted to ask Larry what he was going out for, but she held back.
Recently, Larry had been taking care of her in the hospital and had come back with her to the Lewis family, but she felt Larry was hiding everything from her.
Larry drove out himself.
Alden wasn't in Sunset City yet and needed some time to arrive.
Larry first went to Mortal Clinic.
The clinic had been deserted for a long time, with dust covering the counter.
Larry opened a box, took out several packs of silver needles, and hid them in his large robe.
Then he headed to the agreed meeting place with Alden.
After waiting for two hours, at 12:30 AM, Alden arrived, accompanied by the Eight Heavenly Dragons.
In the suburbs of Sunset City, on a road.
Two cars were parked there.
One was driven by Larry.
The other by Alden.
Alden got out, followed by the Eight Heavenly Dragons.
Larry stood in front of his car, quietly smoking.
Alden walked over and said, "Larry, everyone's here. We can move in."
The others chimed in, "Larry."
Larry looked at the nine people in front of him.
These nine were all assassins, all SSS-level.
Alden was the king of assassins.
Larry waved his hand slightly and said, "Wait a bit longer."
Alden didn't ask further and waited patiently.
About ten minutes later, a pickup truck arrived and stopped in front of Larry and the others. The door opened, and Free, dressed in civilian clothes, got out. He pointed to the truck bed and said, "Everything you need is in the truck."
"Okay." Larry nodded, then looked at Alden and the others, saying, "There's equipment in the truck, including bulletproof vests. Take whatever you find handy. The enemy is the fully armed Legion of Flame Surge, and they have heavy weapons. It's very dangerous, and you might lose your lives."
Alden laughed, "We've already scouted the research base thoroughly. We know the place inside out. It's dangerous, but not a death trap."
Larry said, "Grab your weapons. Let's move out."
