Chapter 426 Legion of Flame Surge Mobilizes
Alistair, originally named Wystan Powell, came from one of the Four Ancient Families—the Powell family. But his father's low status within the family meant Alistair's position was also quite low.
Fate had other plans for him. With Greg's help, he rose to become the head of the Five Great Marshals of Summer Nation, the Supreme Commander of the Legion of Flame Surge, controlling the entire legion.
Years ago, he had already contemplated his own fate. So, he secretly cultivated a group of loyal followers. As the Supreme Commander of the Legion of Flame Surge, the legion only answered to him.
Ten minutes after he issued the order, several generals appeared at his home.
"General Powell, is something wrong?" one asked.
"Why are we surrounding the Golden Sun Palace? Why do you want to kill the King? This is the King we're talking about. Killing him will throw Aurora Citadel into chaos," another said, clearly worried.
"Yeah, General Powell, please reconsider," a third chimed in.
These generals were Alistair's trusted aides. They followed his orders without question, but this was no ordinary matter; it was a revolution.
Alistair sat on the couch, looking troubled. He didn't want to go this far, but if he didn't act, he would die. He was forced into this. He knew that the officials in Aurora Citadel were backed by various factions. Only by making the situation more complicated could he survive; otherwise, he was doomed.
"Deploy the troops," he said firmly.
"Yes, sir," the generals replied, no longer questioning him.
That night, the Legion of Flame Surge mobilized, sealing off the entire Aurora Citadel. The vast city was locked down, military vehicles filled the streets, and helicopters hovered in the sky, drawing the attention of the citizens.
"What's going on?" people whispered.
"The Legion of Flame Surge is mobilized. Is it a military exercise?" many speculated.
Golden Sun Palace, the King's residence.
In a living room, the King sat on a couch. Across from him was an elderly man in his sixties, wearing a brown coat, with a healthy complexion and a spirited demeanor. The King was playing chess with him. Standing nearby was a man in a black coat, known as Shadow.
The King held a black chess piece, pondered for a moment, placed it down, and said, "The Legion of Flame Surge is mobilized. Alistair is about to cause a big stir in Aurora Citadel."
The elderly man across from him, holding a white piece, smiled faintly and said, "As expected. Greg has abandoned him. If he wants to survive, he has to muddy the waters and draw more attention. He's hoping to catch the interest of the Four Ancient Families."
This elderly man was Mr. Nelson, a significant figure. He was also the man behind the King. He placed his chess piece down and continued, "This time, the Four Ancient Families won't be able to stay out of it."
The King smiled and said, "Mr. Nelson's plan is truly perfect. Larry is from the Bennett family. Although his grandfather was expelled from the Bennett family, he still carries the Bennett family blood. He became an executor and is now targeting the Powell family, indirectly involving the Four Ancient Families."
"It's time for a cleanup," Mr. Nelson said calmly. "The Four Ancient Families have always stayed out of direct involvement, but they've secretly amassed wealth and influence. Although they don't hold official positions, their actions and words affect the officials. This is detrimental to the development and construction of a nation."
The King wore a serious expression and asked, "But this will muddy the waters completely. Who knows how many people will be dragged into this internal conflict, giving our enemies an opportunity."
Mr. Nelson raised his hand, gesturing for the King to stop. "If we don't address the internal issues, how can we develop and grow stronger? These families, these factions, these hidden hands have influenced Summer Nation for centuries. To achieve true peace and prosperity, this is the only way. Let's hope the cost won't be too high."
At this moment, Shadow interjected, "The Legion of Flame Surge has sealed off the city. The entire city is in a state of panic, speculating about what's happening. The Legion of Flame Surge is closing in on this location. The Golden Sun Palace will be surrounded within ten minutes."
The King asked, "Where's Larry now?"
Shadow replied, "He's on his way, should be here in about half an hour. But he's only bringing a thousand Black Dragon Army soldiers. If they clash with the Legion of Flame Surge, a thousand might not cut it."
Mr. Nelson nodded. "It's good that Larry's coming. In a revolution, sacrifices are inevitable."
Shadow stayed silent.
The King also said nothing, focusing on the chessboard.
Time ticked by.
Outside, a large number of military vehicles arrived, and fully armed Legion of Flame Surge soldiers disembarked, surrounding the Golden Sun Palace.
The Golden Sun Palace had its own guards—elite troops, the King's personal bodyguards.
As the Legion of Flame Surge approached, a man stepped forward and said coldly, "What do you think you're doing? Do you know where you are? This is the Golden Sun Palace. No troops are allowed to approach with weapons. Which unit are you from?"
The Legion of Flame Surge general remained silent.
They surrounded the Golden Sun Palace but did not act, waiting for Alistair's orders.
From a distant vehicle, a man in a fiery red battle robe stepped out. The robe was adorned with a vivid flame, striking and eye-catching. This was Alistair.
Alistair got out of the car and walked over.
The captain of the elite guards questioned coldly, "Alistair, what are you trying to do?"
Alistair gave him a cold look, pulled out a gun, and without a word, fired. The captain of the elite guards fell to the ground in a pool of blood.
The other elite guards immediately raised their guns.
Alistair said coldly, "Anyone who moves will be killed without mercy."
Thousands of Legion of Flame Surge soldiers instantly raised their weapons. The elite guards were terrified.
Alistair then walked towards the Golden Sun Palace.
Inside the Golden Sun Palace, in the living room, Shadow said, "Alistair has arrived, surrounded the Golden Sun Palace, and killed the captain of the elite guards."
"This guy is ruthless," the King frowned. He thought Alistair was just trying to make a scene to attract the attention of the Four Ancient Families, but he didn't expect him to actually kill someone, and the captain of the elite guards at that.
"Handle it yourself. I'm leaving," Mr. Nelson said, casually tossing a chess piece. The piece rolled across the board, scattering the other pieces, turning a well-played game into chaos.
Mr. Nelson had just left when footsteps approached. Alistair, in his fiery red battle robe, entered with some Legion of Flame Surge soldiers. Alistair glanced at the chaotic chessboard, then at the King sitting on the couch, and walked over, taking Mr. Nelson's previous seat.
The King looked at him and asked calmly, "Alistair, what is the meaning of this? Bringing troops to the Golden Sun Palace at night, are you planning a rebellion?"
Alistair's lips curled into a sinister smile. "I've been forced to this point by you. Killing you will muddy the waters. I want to see if the people behind you can still sit comfortably."
Alistair suddenly drew his gun. The Legion of Flame Surge soldiers behind him instantly raised their weapons.
The King laughed. Looking at Alistair and the dozen Legion of Flame Surge soldiers he brought, he said, "Alistair, you're also from the Powell family. You've been the Supreme Commander of the Legion of Flame Surge for many years. Do you think bringing a few soldiers here will be enough to kill me? If I were that easy to kill, I wouldn't have held this position for thirty years."
"True," Alistair put away his gun. "I know you have skilled fighters by your side, and you yourself are strong. But my men have already planted bombs. The Golden Sun Palace is filled with explosives. With one command, the palace will be leveled."
"King, and you, Shadow, no matter how strong you are, can you escape?"
Alistair came prepared, ready to sacrifice himself. If he couldn't survive, he would take the King down with him.
