Chapter 16 Owing Too Much
Sunset City was also known as Pharma City.
Eighty percent of the world's medicinal herbs were shipped from here.
There were pharmaceutical groups worth billions of dollars, as well as tens of thousands of herb processing factories.
The streets and alleys were filled with clinics here.
Dragon Street was a chaotic place in Sunset City, where all sorts of people gather, with bars and massage parlors aplenty.
At the end of Dragon Street, there stood a clinic.
"Mortal Clinic."
It was where Larry's subordinate, Frank, resided in Sunset City.
Larry was a miracle doctor, and Frank, having followed him for many years, had learned some medical skills. Treating colds, flus, and minor injuries was easy for him.
In the Mortal Clinic, on a small operating table, there lay Chole.
Larry looked at Chloe, whose face was covered in blood, with her knees scraped and dust embedded in her flesh.
Chloe had endured unimaginable torture.
She was physically and mentally exhausted. She had lost a lot of blood and had passed out.
Larry's face was dark and terrifying.
He gently touched Chloe's face guitily, his tears rolling down.
He had promised never to let Chloe suffer any harm again.
However, he had failed.
He owed Chloe too much, a debt he could never repay in this lifetime.
He dared not think what would have happened to Chloe if he had been a moment later.
Even killing Frederick wouldn't ease his hatred; the grievances and pain Chloe suffered—he would make the Hall Family repay a hundredfold.
He took out a medical kit and began to carefully treat the wounds on Chloe's face.
"Mr. Hall, it really wasn't me; please, let me go..."
As Larry gently touched her facial wounds, she cried out, curling up and trembling slightly.
Her pained expressions were like daggers to Larry’s heart, nearly bringing him to tears.
Quickly, he picked up an injector and swiftly inserted it into Chloe's body, calming her and numbing her wounds to reduce her pain.
Only then did Chloe quiet down, peacefully closing her eyes.
Larry carefully cleaned her wounds, started mixing medicine, applied it, and bandaged her.
Frank returned but stood aside, not disturbing them.
After treating the wounds on Chloe's face and some abrasions on her legs, Larry picked her up and took her to the back room of the clinic.
He laid her on the bed, pulled the blanket over her, and tightly held her hand.
He stayed by her side.
Frank stood guard at the door, not leaving for a moment.
Tonight was seismic for Sunset City.
The Hall Family, in their bid for power, had orchestrated a scheme, auctioning off cheap items at high prices to gather a considerable amount of funds.
Frederick even sought revenge on the Lewis Family.
However, no one expected the masked man who killed Kevin to reappear and kill Frederick at the auction.
The police had already intervened in the investigation, but due to Frederick's special status, other relevant departments also got involved. However, the follow-up details were not disclosed.
The night passed silently.
The sun rose, illuminating the dark earth, and the citizens got up and started a new day.
The next morning, in the chairman's office at Legion Tower. "Mr. Evans, a major incident happened last night." A sexy and beautiful woman stood beside Leo, recounting the events at the Hall Family's auction last night in detail.
"Frederick captured Chloe and the Lewis Family members?" Hearing this, Leo was slightly taken aback, then said, "Did Frederick end up dead?"
"Yes, Mr. Evans. From the information I received, Frederick planned to deal with the Lewis Family first, then the Legion Lord. But when he captured Chloe and was about to show off, the masked man who killed Kevin arrived and killed Frederick."
Leo waved his hand. "Alright, you may go."
After the secretary left, Leo smiled faintly and muttered to himself, "Daring to mess with Chloe is looking for trouble. The Deputy Commander of the Western Territory is nothing; even the Free King must bow before the Black Dragon."
Leo didn't pay much attention to the Hall Family's affairs, nor did he get too involved in the Lewis Family's matters.
At Mortal Clinic, after resting for a night, Chloe had woken up. As soon as she woke up, she felt a pair of strong hands holding hers.
She felt weak all over and tried to get up, but a burning pain on her face made her cry out.
Larry, who had been holding Chloe's hand and sleeping by the bedside, was instantly awakened by her cry. He hurriedly said, "Chloe, are you awake?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Chloe weakly asked, "Larry, where am I?"
Larry replied, "You're at Mortal Clinic, a clinic run by a friend of mine. Last night, something happened to the Lewis Family. They were captured, but luckily, I was quick to get away early.. I followed you to a big hotel in Sunset City and saw you lying on the road outside, so I brought you to the clinic."
Larry didn't want Chloe to know his true identity.
Chloe was just an ordinary person, and knowing these things would greatly affect her life. He only wanted Chloe to live a carefree life.
"I'm sorry. I didn't protect you well," Larry said, full of guilt.
Thinking about what happened last night, Chloe felt wronged, her nose tingled, and she started to cry.
"Why does God treat me this way?"
Last night, she experienced despair and endured unimaginable torture.
Seeing Frederick's ruthless face, she felt hopeless and helpless. She kept begging and pleading, but what awaited her were cuts on her face.
She broke down emotionally and cried sorrowfully.
Larry held her hand tightly. "I'm sorry; it's my fault. I should have gone with you."
He kept apologizing.
He felt deeply guilty toward Chloe.
Without him, Chloe wouldn't have gone through all this.
Chloe cried until she was exhausted, or perhaps she was just too tired, and her sobs gradually quieted down before she fell asleep.
Only then did Larry release her hand and step outside.
"Mr. Bennett."
Frank, who had been guarding all night, handed over a cigarette and said, "As per your instructions, all the Western Territory Army personnel in the hotel are killed. I didn't kill any of the Hall Family members. I checked, and the Artwork of Moonlit at the auction was fake. I also interrogated Roxanne; the real Artwork of Moonlit hasn't been with the Hall Family for ten years. Only Frederick knew where it was."
Larry lit a cigarette.
The Artwork of Moonlit was a family heirloom of the Bennett Family. His grandfather valued it more than life itself. No matter where it was, Larry was determined to retrieve it.
Now, he didn't have the time.
Chloe had just gone through a traumatic experience, and he needed to stay by her side to make up for what she had suffered.
Frank paused and continued, "There's one more thing. Neon City, Sunset City, Southglory City, Sea City, Sky City—the five major military districts are being reorganized and merged. The Western Territory Free King has been reassigned and is now the Commander of the Five Armies, effective immediately. The order was issued this morning."
Hearing this, Larry looked indifferent and said calmly, "It has nothing to do with me anymore."
"Mr. Bennett, based on merit, you should be the leader of this new military district. The Free King doesn't deserve to be the new commander," Frank said, feeling angry on Larry's behalf.
Larry waved his hand and said, "Let it go. It doesn't matter to me whether there's a consolidation or who leads the new district."
