Chapter 30 Claiming Credit
Larry returned home.
Just as he stepped out of the elevator and hadn't even entered his apartment, Frank called, "Mr. Bennett, we got word from Free King that they've already sent someone to deliver the invitation to the Lewis family."
"Got it." Larry hung up.
He knocked on the door and entered the house.
It was Sam's wife, Mindy, who opened the door. Upon seeing Larry, she immediately became displeased. "Useless, you don't need to come back."
Larry ignored her and walked into the house. He saw Chloe sitting on the living room sofa and smiled. "Chloe, I've already arranged for the Western Territory Army to send the invitation to the Lewis family."
Chloe looked skeptical and asked, "That's the Western Territory Army. How did you manage that?"
Larry smiled and said, "Did you forget that I used to be in the military and know some people. I asked my former superior to use his connections."
"But according to your resume, you served in Southwild. Southwild has no connection with the Western Territory."
Larry bluffed, "True, but my former superior has some ties with an influential figure in the Western Territory. Anyway, the invitation has been sent. We can go to the your grandpa's place and see for ourselves."
Also in the room were Maria, Scott, Sam, and others.
Maria, equally skeptical, said disdainfully, "You served in the military for ten years and were just a low-ranking soldier. You couldn't possibly have any connections. Larry, I'm warning you, Chloe is naive, but I'm not. Stop deceiving her. Chloe, you really shouldn't be so devoted to Larry. He knows a bit of medicine, but he has no money or power."
Larry was used to Maria's mockery and didn't say much. He took Chloe's hand and said, "Chloe, let's go to check. This time, I'll make you proud."
"Larry, is it true?" Scott couldn't help but ask. He also found it hard to believe that Larry could use his connections to get the Western Territory Army to send an invitation to the Lewis family.
After all, the audience seats for the Free King's succession ceremony were limited, and the wealthy from all five regions were trying to get invitations.
"Dad, you shouldn't believe a word from this useless guy," Sam snorted coldly.
He hated Larry. If it weren't for Larry, his family's shares wouldn't have been taken back, and he could have bought a luxury car and a mansion.
Now, because of Larry, everything was gone.
Larry ignored these people and left with Chloe.
Seeing his confidence, Maria followed them.
If what Larry said was true, Victor would be pleased and would likely reward Chloe. Getting their shares back wouldn't be difficult then.
At the Lewis family's house.
Victor was overjoyed.
He had dreamed of getting an invitation.
This was the Free King's succession ceremony, and there were only a hundred seats.
With so many wealthy people in the five regions, many big shots were trying to get an invitation.
Now, the Foster family had helped the Lewis family get an invitation.
Victor couldn't stop smiling. He took out a card and handed it to Luke. "Luke, there's a million dollars on this card. Consider it a thank you to the Foster family for helping us. Don't think it's too little."
"Grandpa, this isn't right," Luke said this, but he took the card anyway. "Grandpa, we're almost family. No need to fuss over such a small amount."
Luke was ecstatic.
The Foster family had used a lot of connections and spent millions to get an invitation.
The Lewis family's invitation definitely wasn't arranged by the Foster family, but now Victor had given him a million dollars, and he accepted it without hesitation.
"The Foster family is really something."
"Of course, the Foster family's MediCore Group is a top-tier corporation in Sunset City. Luke's father, Paul Foster, has extensive connections and great influence."
"We really have to thank Luke this time. Without him, it would have been impossible for our family to get an invitation."
"Julia found an excellent boyfriend. She's really brought a lot of honor to the Lewis family."
The Lewis family members began to flatter Luke.
Luke became completely arrogant and said proudly, "I told you, it's a small matter."
Just as the Lewis family was basking in the joy of receiving the invitation, Larry walked in with Chloe, followed by Maria, Scott, Sam, and Mindy.
As they saw Chloe's family, the rest members of the Lewis family wore gloomy faces.
Julia stood up and said coldly, "What are you doing here?"
Chloe greeted, "Julia."
Julia showed no respect to Chloe. "Get lost."
Victor was in a good mood after receiving the invitation, but seeing Chloe's family instantly ruined it, especially Larry, who was too arrogant. A son-in-law who didn't even respect him, the head of the family.
"Get out," he said, pointing to the door.
Chloe said, "Grandpa, Larry asked his comrades to have the Western Territory Army send the invitation. I came specifically to ask if our family received it."
Maria, Scott, Sam, and the others all looked at Victor, waiting for his response.
Before Victor could speak, Oscar laughed coldly. "Larry asked his comrades to have the Western Territory Army send the invitation? That's hilarious. It was clearly Luke who did it, asking the Foster family for help, and that's why the Western Territory Army sent the invitation."
"Exactly," Julia said disdainfully, looking at Larry with contempt. "A mere soldier has no right to contact the high-ranking officials of the Western Territory Army. It's shameless to claim credit for the invitation."
Larry's face darkened. He glanced at Luke, who was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed.
Luke glared back and shouted, "Useless, what are you looking at?"
"Truly shameless."
"It was the Foster family who helped us get the invitation. Larry must have seen the Western Territory Army deliver the invitation and came to claim credit."
"Yeah, thank goodness Luke is here, or Larry's scheme might have succeeded."
The Lewis family members started discussing, insulting Larry while flattering Luke.
Hearing these words, Maria became furious. She raised her hand and slapped Larry on the head, shouting, "Useless, you make me ashamed. What are you standing there for? Leave now."
Chloe looked equally upset.
She had thought Larry would really help her and make Victor see her in a new light.
It turned out Larry had seen the Western Territory Army deliver the invitation and claimed the credit for himself.
"Larry, you've really disappointed me." She covered her mouth and ran out crying.
"Chloe." Maria chased after her.
Sam and the others also felt ashamed and quickly left.
Larry looked at the Lewis family members and laughed. "You are the shameless ones. Fine, you say the invitation was obtained with the Foster family's help. Let's see how you attend the ceremony tomorrow."
With that, he turned and left.
After leaving the Lewis family villa, he took out his phone and called Frank, "Ask Free King to void the invitation for the Lewis family."
Frank didn't know Larry's intention but followed through, calling Free King to notify him.
