Chapter 148 Compensation for Damages
Edward was completely stunned. He didn't understand why Lord suddenly attacked him. He kept begging, "Lord, I was wrong, please stop hitting me, I beg you, stop."
After kicking and punching Edward several times, Lord pleaded, "Larry, please spare me."
Lord's pleading left Edward utterly bewildered, questioning, 'Isn't this Chloe's husband, the Lewis family's son-in-law, Larry? Why is Lord pleading with him?'
Edward stood up in a daze. But since he was injured, he fell over again as soon as he stood up.
Larry looked at Lord and said calmly, "I'm going to level this place. Are you going to stop me?"
"I wouldn't dare." Lord was not angry at all and immediately said, "Larry, you don't need to do it; we'll handle it ourselves."
Saying this, he shouted loudly, "What are you all standing around for? Get moving and level the factory."
Lord's three thousand men immediately sprang into action. These were the same people who had gone to the Bennett family cemetery last time. The scene of a hundred thousand troops mobilizing was still fresh in their minds.
These people quickly got to work, making the people on the excavators get off and taking over the machines.
Operating an excavator was a skilled job, but these people, although usually subordinates, had proper jobs and many knew how to operate excavators.
Three hundred excavators started up instantly. The factory gate was directly crushed. The front factory building was instantly demolished, and dust filled the air.
Edward was dumbfounded by this scene. 'Lord has shares of the factory, yet he personally orderes it to be leveled. Who exactly is this Larry that makes Lord so fearful?'
Watching the factory continuously collapse, Larry's anger finally subsided a bit. Looking at Edward, who was sitting on the ground unable to get up, he said calmly, "Tomorrow, bring the debt that CloudPharma owes to the Everlasting Group and apologize to Chloe. Otherwise, it won't just be a mere factory being leveled; it will be CloudPharma."
Larry said this and then looked at Dominic, instructing, "I'm heading back first. You stay here and make sure it's leveled before you leave."
"Understood." Dominic nodded respectfully.
"Frank, let's go back."
"Got it." Frank nodded.
The two of them returned to the car.
Inside the car, Amelia had been watching the whole time. Seeing what happened at the factory gate and watching the factory continuously collapse, she was very surprised.
Frank drove and took Larry back.
It wasn't until Larry was far away that Edward asked, "Lord, what exactly is going on? How could you..."
"You idiot!" Lord kicked him and cursed angrily, "You almost got me killed. Do as Larry said, apologize tomorrow and don't talk about what happened todaywith others. Announce tomorrow that the factory was old and is being demolished for reconstruction."
Edward was stunned that Larry had such great power. But since Lord didn't say more, he wisely didn't ask further.
When Larry returned home, it was almost midnight. The family was already asleep, and he didn't have a key, so he took out his phone and called Chloe.
Chloe, exhausted, had fallen asleep as soon as she lay down. Half-asleep, she answered the phone and saw it was Larry calling. She was visibly displeased.
Answering the call, she scolded, "Larry, you're getting more and more out of line. Do you know what time it is?"
Larry explained, "Honey, I had some business to take care of and got delayed. Please come open the door for me. I promise I won't come home late again."
Chloe hung up the phone directly. Soon, the door opened.
Chloe stood at the door in a thin nightgown, her pretty face filled with anger, and scolded, "Do you know what time it is?"
Larry said, "Honey, I really had something to do."
"Don't let it happen again." Chloe snorted coldly and turned to leave.
Larry followed her inside, closed the door, and went to the bedroom. When he finished taking a shower, Chloe was already asleep, but there was a space left for him on the bed. He felt a warmth in his heart and climbed into bed.
The night passed quietly.
The next day, Chloe got up early in the morning. She arrived at the Everlasting Group.
The Everlasting Group's factory was already on holiday. Drake was very anxious that they had just received an order, and now, as soon as they started work, something happened again.
Drake said, "Ms. Lewis, how did you offend Edward from CloudPharma? Why don't we go and apologize? If this continues, we'll be the ones suffering the losses."
Chloe was frustrated. 'Apologize? I did nothing wrong, so why would I go and apologize?'
She said, "I understand. You can leave now."
"Okay." Drake left.
Chloe sat in her office chair, dejected and spiritless. At this moment, she felt very helpless. The company was in trouble, but she had no solutions.
She thought about seeking help from the mysterious Mr. Bennett. 'Just this once,' Chloe thought to herself. 'After this, I won't seek him out again.'
Just as she made up her mind and was about to leave, there was a knock on the door. She sat back down and called out, "Come in."
Drake pushed the door open and hurriedly said, "Ms. Lewis, Edward from CloudPharma is here."
Chloe was so shocked she cried out. At that moment, several burly bodyguards carried a stretcher into the room.
Edward lay on the stretcher, wrapped in bandages. He had been beaten by Lord.
Last night, after CloudPharma was leveled, Lord was heartbroken. So much equipment were all destroyed, costing billions of dollars. He couldn't take it and beat Edward.
Seeing Edward in this state, Chloe was momentarily stunned.
"Ms. Lewis, I'm here to apologize." Edward's face was bruised and swollen, and even his teeth were knocked out, making his speech slurred.
He took out a check. "This is the four million dollars owed, plus interest, totaling five million dollars. Please accept it and forgive me. I won't dare to do it again. Please forgive me."
Chloe was extremely shocked by his words. It took her several seconds to react. "Edward, what happened to you?" she asked.
"Ms. Lewis, please forgive me," Edward said again. He was still very confused. 'How could a mere son-in-law have such great power, to level a factory just like that?'
When the police arrived, they were scared off by a single word from Lord.
Chloe's face was filled with astonishment, thinking, 'What on earth happened? Yesterday, he was so arrogant, sending people to cause trouble. Today, he's beaten and wrapped in bandages, personally coming to apologize, and even prepared to repay the debt, plus one million dollars in interest. This money came too easily, didn't it?'
After a brief moment of surprise, she responded, "I only want the four million dollars. You can take the rest back."
Hearing this, Edward panicked and hurriedly said, "Ms. Lewis, you must accept the interest. If you don't, I'm as good as dead."
Lord had said that if Chloe didn't forgive him, he would be thrown into the river to feed the fish.
Chloe frowned again. At this moment, she thought of someone. 'Could it be the mysterious Mr. Bennett helping again? But how would he know about the Everlasting Group's situation?'
She couldn't help but ask, "Was it Mr. Bennett who intervened?"
"Yes, no, " Edward nodded and shook his head. Lord had warned him not to speak carelessly, or he would die without a burial place. "Chloe, just take the money. Consider it compensation from CloudPharma to the Everlasting Group."
"Alright." Chloe thought for a moment and decided to accept it.
After all, CloudPharma wasn't short of money, and she really needed it now. Since Edward personally brought it, if she didn't accept it, Edward would probably be very uneasy.
Chloe accepted the five million dollars check. The small check felt very heavy in her hand. 'Mr. Bennett, I owe you another favor,' she sighed in her heart.
