Chapter 417 Choice
By the next morning, Trinity had woken up.
She had been through hell.
Her body bore the marks of dozens of lashes, each one leaving her skin torn and bleeding.
She had also been burned with a branding iron.
Last night, the doctor performed surgery on her, treating her wounds.
When Larry entered the hospital room, she was staring blankly at the ceiling, her eyes vacant.
Hearing footsteps, she turned her head slightly. Seeing Larry, tears welled up in her eyes.
Larry walked over, sat on the chair beside her bed, and held her hand tightly, comforting her, "It's okay now, it's okay."
"Larry, I... I didn't say anything. I didn't tell them anything." She spoke weakly.
Even now, she was holding on.
She had a belief in her heart: no matter what, she couldn't say anything. Even if it cost her life, she couldn't say anything.
"I know." Seeing Trinity like this, Larry felt a pang of guilt.
From the wounds on her body, Larry knew what kind of torture she had endured.
Even a battle-hardened soldier might not have withstood it, but she had. It took immense willpower.
Looking at her pale face, Larry felt a deep sense of remorse.
It was all because of him.
If he had been more decisive and not let Trinity stay by his side, she wouldn't have gone through this ordeal.
But it had already happened.
All he could do now was to treat her well for the rest of their lives.
He lifted Trinity's hand, checking her condition.
Aside from the external injuries, she had no internal damage, but her body was weak and needed time to recover.
Seeing the hopeful look in Trinity's eyes, Larry said softly, "You'll be fine. Just rest for a while, and you'll recover."
"Larry, did I mess up your plans?"
"Don't be silly. How could you mess up my plans? The base is already destroyed. You've actually helped me a lot." Larry spoke gently.
It was true.
If Trinity hadn't been captured, he wouldn't have acted so quickly against Alistair's research base. Alistair wouldn't have destroyed the base to cover his tracks.
"That's good."
Trinity was afraid that her mistake would affect Larry's plans, which would make her feel very regretful.
But Larry didn't see it as Trinity's fault. It was his oversight.
He had anticipated that Alistair might target Trinity, yet he still sent her. If he had been more cautious, none of this would have happened.
Larry stayed with her in the hospital.
Soon, Abigail got the news and rushed over early in the morning.
"Larry, what were you thinking?"
As soon as she entered the room, Abigail scolded, "How did Trinity end up like this?"
Trinity, lying on the bed, said weakly, "Abigail, it's not Larry's fault. It was my carelessness."
Seeing Trinity wrapped in bandages and her pale face, Abigail sighed helplessly.
Looking at Larry, she said, "I saw the news. Last night, Purple Haze Ridge exploded, and there were explosions in several areas across the country. What happened?"
Abigail was part of the plan.
Larry didn't hide anything.
He briefly explained the situation.
"This time, we had a direct confrontation with Alistair. To destroy the evidence, Alistair blew up all his research bases."
Hearing this, Abigail took a deep breath.
She hadn't expected so much to happen last night.
She looked at Trinity and then said, "It's too dangerous for Trinity to stay with you. She can't stay with you anymore. She survived this time by luck, but next time she might not be so lucky."
Larry nodded slightly.
He thought the same.
The conflict with Alistair would only intensify.
It was too dangerous for Trinity to stay with him.
"I'm not afraid."
Trinity, hearing this, became anxious and quickly said, "Larry, don't send me away. I'm not afraid. I really am not. Let me stay with you. I'll do anything as long as I can stay with you."
"Trinity, this is for your own good," Abigail said sternly. "It's too dangerous. Staying with him could cost you your life."
Trinity lowered her head and said softly, "I'm not afraid."
"Let's not talk about this now," Larry said, raising his hand slightly. "She still has injuries. Let her rest and recover."
Abigail sat down, crossing her arms and legs, looking at Larry. "I support whatever you do, but it's too dangerous for Trinity to stay with you. She was tortured to get your information. Can you bear to see her suffer?"
Larry couldn't bear to see Trinity hurt.
"Abigail, I can handle it," Trinity said, looking like a child, her weak face showing a hint of pleading. "Please don't send me away."
Abigail said, "Trinity, this isn't about sending you away. It's for your own good. Leave for a while. When Larry's done with his work, I'll have him come find you, okay?"
Trinity shook her head vigorously.
Abigail looked at Larry and asked, "So, what now?"
"What?" Larry glanced at Abigail.
Abigail said coldly, "You have to choose between Chloe and Trinity. You can't have both."
Larry didn't know. He really didn't know.
He didn't know how to choose.
Abigail sighed.
She knew Larry couldn't make a choice. If he could, none of this would have happened.
She didn't push Larry any further.
"I have work to do at the company. I'll come back to see you tonight, Trinity."
With that, she stood up and left.
Larry got up to see her out.
Outside the hospital.
They walked side by side.
Abigail said, "Trinity is a good girl. She's more suitable for you than Chloe. At least she always stands by your side. You've been with Trinity. You can't let her down."
Although Abigail loved Larry, too.
She knew the chances of being with Larry were slim.
Larry couldn't forget Chloe.
And now there was Trinity.
She admired Trinity's bravery.
Despite the immense pain, she had endured it.
If it were her, she wouldn't have been able to hold on.
"I know." Larry nodded slightly.
Trinity was indeed a good girl, and he felt guilty towards her.
But he hadn't yet cut ties with Chloe.
"Once Chloe's Gu poison acts up and I help her detoxify, I'll end things with her."
After careful consideration, Larry decided to end things with Chloe.
He had repaid Chloe's life-saving grace when they divorced, and when she accepted his billion-dollar settlement.
A billion dollars was enough to compensate for the hardships Chloe had endured over the past decade.
With a billion dollars, Chloe would be set for life.
But what he owed Trinity, he could never repay.
