Chapter 138 You actually followed me?
Larry had showed up at The Serpent Group just to see Chloe.
After meeting her, he changed back into a plain casual outfit.
"This feels much better," Larry muttered, leaving the chairman's office and taking the private elevator down.
Outside The Serpent Group office building, he waited by the roadside for a car.
Chloe left too, feeling a bit disappointed. She finally met the person she had been wanting to see, but still didn't catch a glimpse of his face.
His presence was strong though, every word and action seemed to influence others.
As she made her way down the street, she unexpectedly spotted Larry by the roadside. She was surprised and walked over, calling out, "Larry, what are you doing here?"
Larry turned around, scratching his head awkwardly. "Chloe, what are you doing here?"
"Are you following me?" Chloe's face darkened as she saw Larry's flustered expression. "You don't trust me, do you? So, you followed me?"
Larry was speechless. 'Why would I follow you?' he thought, but he struggled to articulate his thoughts.
Larry's silence only confirmed Chloe's suspicion.
"I didn't expect you to be so petty. You say you trust me, but you don't," Chloe said, clearly upset.
She looked at Larry, who seemed so ordinary compared to the mysterious Mr. Bennett, who was charismatic and impeccably dressed.
"Honey, I didn't follow you," Larry said helplessly.
"Then why are you here?" Chloe demanded.
Larry wanted to explain but didn't know how. 'Should I say I'm the mysterious Mr. Bennett who sent you the gift?'
"Larry, I think I understand you better now," Chloe said. After meeting Mr. Bennett, she felt Larry fell short by comparison. Maybe her family was right; they weren't a good match.
Chloe's coldness stunned Larry. They had been married for a while, and despite misunderstandings, Chloe had always defended him. He felt she still liked him.
Now, he wondered if she had been swayed by the mysterious Mr. Bennett and was growing distant because of it. 'Could it be that after seeing another version of me, she fell for that version and has started to despise me?'
Chloe noticed Larry’s hurt expression and realized she might have been too harsh. She remembered how Larry had cured her and taken care of her. Those were among the happiest times of her life in the past ten years.
Taking a deep breath, Chloe softened her tone. "Larry, I know you cured me. Since I married you, I'm your wife. I'd never betray you. But it seems you don't trust me and stalked me. Do you really think I'd leave you for Mr. Bennett?"
"Chloe, I really didn't. How can I explain?" Larry was desperate.
Chloe raised her hand to stop him. "Alright, I get why you followed me. Mr. Bennett did send those gifts. Your concern is justified. But you should go back now. I'm heading to the Everlasting Group."
"Chloe," a stunning woman in a red dress, Abigail, called out as she walked over.
From a distance, she saw Chloe talking to a man in plain clothes. Ignoring Larry, she pulled Chloe aside and asked, "Did you meet the chairman of The Serpent Group? Was it him?" She showed Chloe a worn photo of a handsome young man.
Chloe shook her head. "I met him, but he was wearing a silver mask, so I didn't see his face."
Abigail sighed. "I don't get why the chairman won't see me. He said he'd meet me if I got the job, but even after I passed the interview, he still wouldn't."
"You got the job?" Chloe asked.
"Of course," Abigail said proudly. "I was a vice president at a big company abroad with a $4 million salary. I came back to advance my career, and many top companies want me. Even the Epoch Group made an offer, but I'm not interested. I just want to know if the person who survived ten years ago is Larry."
"By the way, who's this?" Abigail asked, finally taking notice of Larry.
Chloe pulled Larry over with a forced smile. "This is my husband, Larry."
Abigail crossed her arms, scrutinizing Larry with a critical eye. "Chloe, he's not good enough for you."
As a former vice president, Abigail had met countless people and could judge them quickly. She saw ordinariness and laziness in Larry and instantly formed an opinion.
Larry, meanwhile, was staring at Abigail, thinking, 'This can't be a coincidence, right?' This Abigail was his first love from ten years ago. Despite the changes, her general appearance was the same.
Larry's unabashed gaze disgusted Abigail. Chloe smiled and said, "My husband treats me very well."
"Chloe, you're being silly. That's not important. With your looks and status, you can do much better. Do you know Mr. Carter from the Carter Family? We went to the same university abroad, and we're pretty close. I'll introduce you next time."
Hearing Abigail's words, Chloe felt a bit awkward, having met Justin just yesterday.
Abigail continued, "The Carter Family is worth billions, and Justin is smart with a great business mind. He made millions abroad in just a few years. If I weren't still thinking about my first love, Larry, I wouldn't introduce such an outstanding man to you."
She glanced at Larry and said coldly, "I heard your name is also Larry. You really disgrace the name."
Larry gave an awkward smile, not saying much in response to his ex-girlfriend's sarcasm.
Chloe joked, "Abigail, since Mr. Carter is such a good man, you should seize the opportunity. I'm already married, so I won't get involved."
Chloe defending him in front of others made Larry happy. Despite her feelings for the mysterious Mr. Bennett, she still cared for him.
He found the situation amusing. He wondered whether Chloe would end up loving him more or the other richer and more successful version of him.
