Chapter 112 Rational People
Larry knelt by the grave, screaming at the sky. His voice quickly turned hoarse. He sobbed uncontrollably.
Ten years. It had been ten long years.
Back then, Larry was just an eighteen-year-old kid, fresh out of high school, full of dreams and hope for the future.
However, then, the Bennett Family was wiped out in a conspiracy.
"You heartless bastards! My daughter was only three! How could you be so cruel?"
"Let me die. Just spare my grandson."
The image of his family burning, their screams echoing in the flames, was still seared into his mind.
Larry could never forget that moment.
As he was tormented, his body on fire, crying his heart out, Chloe appeared.
Chloe rushed into the inferno without hesitation, saved Larry, and dragged him to the riverbank.
Driven by the will to survive, Larry jumped into the river. He drifted downstream and ended up in a cave, where he stumbled upon a medical book.
In Sunset City, also known as Pharma City.
Larry's grandfather, Richard, was also a renowned doctor.
Larry had learned some basic medical knowledge from a young age. After finding the medical book, he studied it diligently and used the formulas to heal his injuries.
After leaving the cave, Larry wandered to Southwild.
He stumbled into the chaos in Southwild, where the Summer Nation was recruiting soldiers.
Larry became a soldier and, after endless special training, went to the battlefield.
Stepping over the corpses of enemies, he kept getting promoted.
In ten years, he racked up countless military achievements.
Until more than a year ago, a battle he led shocked the world.
Larry was awarded the title of Black Dragon, one of the Five Great Marshals of the Summer Nation, standing at the pinnacle of power.
This was the recognition of his ten years of military service.
That battle brought peace and stability to Southwild.
At the peak of his glory, Larry submitted his resignation. Before it was approved, he returned to Sunset City to repay a debt of gratitude and to seek revenge, to repay Chloe for saving his life and to avenge the annihilation of the Bennett Family.
Now, the revenge had been achieved, the souls of the Bennett Family could rest in peace, and the hatred suppressed for ten years was finally released.
Frank stood aside, watching Larry cry uncontrollably.
At this moment, Frank couldn't help but feel a bit of heartache.
Free King felt the same.
Free King never expected that the famous Black Dragon would also have such a vulnerable side.
"Grandpa." Beside him, William's granddaughter, Sarah Brooks, clung tightly to William's arm.
Sarah was just an ordinary city girl who had never seen such a bloody scene and had never witnessed such a terrifying situation.
"It's okay," William gently patted Sarah's hand.
After a long time, Larry calmed down, stood up from the ground, pulled out the sword stuck in the soil, casually threw it to Frank, and walked up to Free King, saluting him. "Free King, thanks for this."
"Is everything settled? If so, I can withdraw my troops."
Larry nodded.
Larry was a rational person. After killing those who annihilated the Bennett Family, he didn't trouble the other members of the Four Great Families.
Larry glanced at the members of the Four Great Families still crouching on the ground, some even fainted, and said calmly, "Return the properties belonging to the Bennett Family within three days."
"Yes." The members of the Four Great Families didn't dare to refuse.
Larry walked up to William. "Mr. Larry Bennett."
"William," Larry called out, then looked at Sarah, who was holding William's hand, and asked, "William, who is this?"
William promptly said, "Larry, this is Sarah, my granddaughter."
Larry nodded and said, "In three days, go to the Four Great Families and take over the properties belonging to the Bennett Family."
"Larry, well..." William was taken aback.
Larry knew William was privy to many secrets. He had learned that the Bennett Family had migrated from Aurora Citadel thirty years ago.
And William, who had always been close to his grandfather Richard, surely knew the origins of the Bennett Family, details about the Bennett Family Artwork of Moonlit, and even who was targeting them.
"Free King, handle things here. I'll treat you to a meal later," Larry said to Free King.
Free King nodded slightly.
Then he ordered, "Withdraw the troops."
As the army pulled back, Free King looked at the members of the Four Great Families and some big figures from the gangs with a cold expression and said, "Behave yourselves from now on."
There were over ten thousand people here. If they were all arrested, there wouldn't be enough cells to hold them.
Since Larry didn't punish the others, Free King didn't bother either.
"Yes." The people of the Four Great Families and the big figures from the gangs all crouched on the ground, not daring to refuse.
"Keep today's events a secret. If the outside world finds out what you saw and heard, you should know the consequences."
"Yes, we won't say a word."
"I didn't see anything."
"What happened today? Weren't we here to attend the funeral of the family heads?"
Free King didn't linger, turning to leave.
Larry also got into the car with William and Sarah.
The army withdrew, and Free King, Larry, and the others left.
The remaining members of the Four Great Families and some big figures from the gangs finally relaxed, collapsing to the ground and wiping the sweat from their foreheads.
"My God."
"Who exactly is Larry? How did he get Free King to show up personally?"
"A hundred thousand troops, just thinking about it is terrifying."
"If they had pursued it further, none of us would have survived."
"This was really a close call."
The big figures looked at each other, unable to hide their anxiety. Then, they all left one after another.
The members of the Four Great Families began to bury their dead.
A revenge had come to an end.
However, the deployment of a hundred thousand troops caused a huge stir in Sunset City.
The commotion was too big.
Over a hundred fighter jets, tanks, armored vehicles, military trucks—it was terrifying.
The people of Sunset City gathered to discuss the matter.
After returning, Free King issued a document.
He announced to the public that it was a military exercise.
The outside world believed it without question.
Those who knew the inside story didn't dare to reveal a word.
In the Imperial Residence of the Scenic Villas, Larry took a shower and changed into clean clothes.
William and Sarah also freshened up and changed into clean clothes.
In the luxurious hall of the palace-like Imperial Residence, on the opulent sofa.
Sarah clung tightly to William's arm, feeling nervous. She occasionally glanced at Larry.
Larry held a cigarette. "William, you've always followed Richard, so you should know a lot about the Bennett Family. As far as I know, the Bennett Family migrated from Aurora Citadel thirty years ago. However, I couldn't find any information about it. What's going on?"
William's face showed hesitation. He looked at Larry sitting in front of him.
The previous scene still lingered in William's mind.
Although William hadn't been in Sunset City for many years, he knew of Free King's reputation.
And the person in front of him was the young master of the Bennett Family, who had escaped the fire ten years ago.
William couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Larry Bennett, what is your current status?"
To have Free King deploy a hundred thousand troops, William couldn't fathom how powerful Larry had become.
"Southwild, commander of the million-strong Black Dragon Army, Black Dragon, standing alongside Western Territory Free King, Northern Chieftain, Eastern Domain Barbarian King, and Aurora Emperor as one of the Five Great Marshals of the Summer Nation."
