Chapter 141 Disappointment
Larry went back home. However, the whole family was not at home; they had all gone to Scenic Villas to look at the villas.
When Larry left, he was in a hurry and forgot to take his keys. He thought about calling Chloe but decided against it.
He sat on the stairs outside the house, smoking. He then took out his phone and played games to pass the time.
Unknowingly, it was already noon. Chloe's family had not returned yet when Chloe came back.
As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Larry sitting on the stairs nearby, frowning while walking over, and asked, "What are you doing sitting here?"
Upon hearing her voice, Larry quickly stood up. Putting away his phone, he smiled and said, "Honey, I left without my keys, and since no one is home, I'm waiting here."
Chloe glanced at Larry but didn't say anything more. She turned and walked towards the door. She took out her keys and opened the door.
Larry followed her inside. "Honey, have you eaten? Shall I cook?" he asked.
"I've already eaten. You go ahead and cook something though. Otherwise, when Mom comes back, she'll scold you again. I'm going to take a nap. I have to go to the Everlasting Group in the afternoon, so don't disturb me," Chloe said before walking away.
Chloe had not slept well the previous night and felt drained after running around all morning.
Larry watched Chloe enter the room. He could clearly sense Chloe's coldness towards him and sighed softly.
It was meant as a kind gesture to give a gift and make Chloe happy, but it seemed to have caused more trouble than expected.
Since things had come to this, he decided to go with the flow. After all, he felt that he and Chloe hadn't fallen in deep love. Even if Chloe developed feelings for someone else, it might not be a bad outcome.
He went to the kitchen, cooking and contemplating. He was pondering whether to give up his identity as the Lewis family son-in-law and contact Chloe under the mysterious identity of Mr. Bennett.
As he thought about it, he felt confused. Matters of the heart were much more complicated than going to battle.
Soon, the Lewises returned.
"Mom, the villa is so luxurious, it's incomparable to our big villa. Mom, when are we moving in?" Larry heard Sam's excited voice coming from the living room.
Mindy was also excited, saying, "Maria, I've never seen such a luxurious villa in all my life. Let's move in quickly. I want the room by the door on the second floor, that balcony is huge."
Carrying the prepared meal, Larry walked out and said, "Dinner's ready."
Maria's great mood was instantly ruined when she saw Larry. She stood up and scolded, "Larry, you have the nerve to still be here. Do you really want me to kick you out?"
"Maria," Larry looked embarrassed.
"I don't have such a useless son-in-law like you. You must divorce Chloe today. I want to move into the big villa and start enjoying life," Maria said.
Sam came over with a pleading look. "Larry, please divorce Chloe. I don't want such a incompetent brother-in-law. You can't give me luxury cars, big houses, or the lifestyle I want."
Larry helplessly scratched his nose. If it was just about money; he had plenty of it. It was just that these people didn't believe in him.
The commotion in the living room made it impossible for Chloe to rest peacefully. She walked out with a stern expression, looking at her family, and said coldly, "Mr. Bennett has already said that this is a gift of gratitude for saving my life, not an engagement gift. If you want to move into the big villa, then move in, but don't bring up divorce again."
Larry glanced at Chloe gratefully.
Chloe also glanced back at him. Although she didn't say anything, disappointment was evident in her expression. She prefered a successful man to someone who stayed at home cooking all day and lacked ambition.
"I'm going to the Everlasting Group." With that, Chloe turned and left.
Larry could see the disappointment in Chloe's eyes. It seemed that her opinion of him had indeed changed unknowingly after meeting the mysterious Mr. Bennett.
As the Lewises heard that they could move into the big villa, they became excited and started discussing when to move in.
Meanwhile, Larry was forgotten, but he didn't mind. He sat on the balcony, smoking, contemplating life.
Chloe had only left for a short while when Victor arrived.
The Lewises had tried everything to rescue Harry and Oscar, but to no avail.
Xavier said that since Larry had reported the incident, to release Harry and Oscar, they needed Larry's permission; otherwise, no one else could help. Hence, Victor came in person.
Chloe's family did not give Victor a warm reception. They had completely distanced themselves from the Lewis family now and were about to move into the big villa, so they didn't care about Victor's opinion anymore.
"Dad, what are you here for?" Maria asked coldly, showing no respect for Victor, the head of the family.
Victor looked at Larry and ordered in a commanding tone, "Larry, call and drop the charges. Release Harry and Oscar."
Larry, looking nonchalant, replied, "Grandpa, when you make a mistake, you have to face the consequences. If we let them off easily this time, they will be even more reckless in the future."
"You bastard, I don't need you to lecture me," Victor fumed.
Maria looked at Larry and said, "Larry, that's enough. Make the call to drop the charges; after all, we are family. Don't make things too tense."
Following Maria's instructions, Larry nodded. He didn't have Xavier's number, only Howard's.
He dialed Howard's number directly. "I'm dropping the charges in the Lewis family matter. No further investigation," he said before hanging up.
Victor snorted and left in anger.
"Dad, be careful," Maria called out sarcastically as he left.
"Happy," Sam laughed cheerfully, "Although Larry is a bit poor, what he did this time really feels satisfying. After this, I don't think Oscar will dare to act arrogantly in front of me."
"Indeed," Maria nodded and thought, 'Larry has cleared Chloe's name with this police report, which is indeed commendable. But it is just a police report. If it were the mysterious Mr. Bennett and Mr. Carter, they wouldn't even need to involve the police; they could handle it with their own abilities.'
"Larry, don't think that by helping Chloe, you can avoid the divorce. You must divorce," Maria said, while also considering her next move, muttering to herself, "It seems we can't place out hopes on the mysterious Mr. Bennett. I should contact Mr. Carter instead. I'll call him now and invite him for dinner."
"Mr. Carter, I'm Chloe's mother. Yes, it's me. Are you free tonight? Chloe wants to invite you for dinner. Alright, that's settled then," Maria hung up the call with a radiant smile., It felt as if she was already treating Justin like her son-in-law.
"Justin?" Larry squinted and thought, 'It seems like it is time to teach Justin a lesson. He's asking for trouble if he dares to even think about having a relationship with Chloe.'
