Chapter 471 Confusion

Larry had been working on his Qi again. After soaking up the cold energy from Esmeralda, his Qi had skyrocketed. In just half a day, he was at the peak of the first stage, almost ready to hit the second.

Esmeralda's body was amazing, but it could only generate so much cold energy each day. Paisley had also been using her Qi to help get rid of a lot of it.

Larry would have to wait a few days before he could absorb more.

When Larry went downstairs, Esmeralda followed soon after, dressed and with Paisley by her side.

In the living room, Paisley spoke up, "I'll be training Esmeralda in martial arts from now on. Her body is pretty unique. If she can grasp the concepts well, her Qi growth won't be much slower than yours."

"Yeah," Larry agreed. "Her body's like a never-ending generator, always making cold energy. As long as she absorbs it, her Qi goes up."

Paisley continued, "According to my plan, you'll absorb the cold energy from Esmeralda once every seven days. The cold energy she builds up in a week should take you about a day to absorb and refine."

Larry nodded. He was still a newbie in martial arts. Paisley, on the other hand, had grown up in the Bennett family, surrounded by martial arts. Compared to him, she was a pro.

Paisley remembered something and said, "Oh, by the way, Grandpa said you can access the Bennett family's secret library. It's got tons of martial arts manuals from the family's top practitioners. Even though you've got Qi, you don't really know how to use it yet. You should pick a martial art that suits you."

"Let's deal with that later," Larry shook his head slightly. Things were too messy right now. Chloe, Abigail, and Trinity were still missing. And the person who seemed to be Richard was still a mystery.

"I'm gonna go find Free and get an update."

He stood up, said goodbye to Esmeralda and Paisley, and left the house. He went to the garage, got in his car, and drove to the military district.

Free was in a meeting when Larry arrived, but he wrapped it up when he heard Larry was there.

In Free's office, Free walked in and saw Larry sitting on the couch, lost in thought. "Hey, you made it."

Larry snapped out of it and nodded. "Yeah, it's been days, and still no news?"

Free sat down and handed Larry a cigarette. "I've done everything I can. I've used all the intel resources we've got, but we still don't know how the car that took Trinity vanished from surveillance, or who took her. As for Chloe and Abigail, they both disappeared after leaving work."

Larry had expected this. If there had been any news, Free would've called him already. But he still came because he had no one else to talk to.

"Free, do you know about martial practitioners?"

Free looked a bit surprised but then nodded. "Yeah, I do."

Larry rubbed his forehead. "Things in Aurora Citadel are bad. The Four Great Families are at each other's throats, and other forces are watching closely. If things go south, it'll affect the whole Summer Nation. How do we stop this?"

Free shook his head. "That's not my job, and I don't have the power to worry about it. The strong will play their games, but no matter what happens, I believe the winner will lead the country to prosperity."

"What should I do? My grandfather might still be alive, and he could be a really bad guy. Ten years ago, the Bennett family was burned down, and it's tied to the Aurora Citadel Bennett family. If my grandfather shows up one day and asks me to destroy the Aurora Citadel Bennett family for revenge, what should I do?"

Larry looked helpless. These questions had been eating at him for days. He didn't dare to think too deeply about them.

Free knew a bit about Larry's situation and the person who took Trinity, who seemed to be Richard. He chuckled, "Larry, why are you asking me? If you don't know what to do, how would I? You're giving me way too much credit."

"Then tell me, should I stand with the country, with the king, or with the Bennett family?" Larry asked again.

Free shook his head again. These were questions he couldn't answer. "Why stress about it? Take it one step at a time. Come on, let's grab Howard and go out for a drink."

Free knew Larry was conflicted. Although he didn't fully understand the grudges between the Four Ancient Families of Aurora Citadel, he had heard about the four treasure maps. Thirty years ago, there was internal strife in the Bennett family, and ten years ago, the family was burned down. He had heard about these events recently. But as an outsider, he couldn't give Larry any advice.

He stood up and called out to the dazed Larry, "What are you waiting for? Let's go."

Larry's face showed a hint of bitterness. "Alright, let's go."

The two left the office together. Free changed into casual clothes, grabbed Howard, and drove a black sedan out of the military district.

At a barbecue joint in Sunset City, the three of them ordered a table full of food. Howard fetched the pre-prepared alcohol from the car's trunk. They ate and drank heartily.

Larry wanted to get drunk, but the more he drank, the clearer he became. Eventually, the floor was littered with empty bottles. Free and Howard were passed out, faces flushed, slumped over the table.

Larry, however, remained clear-headed. Having cultivated Qi, he was somewhat immune to alcohol. He glanced at Free and Howard, then grabbed his coat, draped it over his shoulders, and left the restaurant. Walking through the bustling streets, watching the hurried passersby, he felt dazed and lost.

For so many years, he had never felt lost. But now, he was. He didn't know where to go. At that moment, he missed Chloe. He missed the days living with the Lewis family, shopping for groceries, cooking meals, living freely and unrestrained. But those days were gone, never to return.

He then thought of Abigail, the woman who had gone to Southwild to find him, who had stayed by his side and cared for him when he was poisoned. He also thought of Trinity, who had been captured by Alistair and endured inhuman torture without revealing a word, a seemingly soft but strong girl.

The images of the three women swirled in his mind, intertwining and forming a tangled mess that he couldn't unravel.

Larry walked aimlessly through the crowded streets, his coat casually draped over his shoulder. Suddenly, he felt a jolt in his heart. He turned sharply, staring behind him.

There were many passersby. Larry's gaze swept over each of them. Just now, he had felt a strong killing intent.
