Chapter 439 Three Days

Larry had heard bits and pieces about the origins of the Artwork of Moonlit, but he didn't know much about it.

Sitting in his wheelchair, he stared at the painting hanging on the wall in front of him.

Cody glanced at the painting too and continued, "This painting goes back a thousand years to Victor Veil. Victor tried to take the throne but failed. In his quest to rise again, he searched the world for treasures. He never succeeded in claiming the throne, though. Before he died, he gave four paintings to his four loyal retainers, hinting that they contained a great secret."

Larry couldn't help but ask, "What secret?"

He'd heard from Sirius that the Artwork of Moonlit hid the secrets of the Everlife Group, but he wasn't entirely convinced.

Cody shook his head. "Victor Veil never said. Even the ancestors of the Bennett family didn't know. But later, when the four retainers were sorting through Victor Veil's belongings, they found clues. The four paintings supposedly contain Victor Veil's own martial arts techniques. Mastering these techniques might allow someone to reach the ninth level."

"The ninth level..." Larry sighed.

"Throughout history, countless geniuses and martial arts masters have pursued this level, but no one has ever been known to reach it."

Larry frowned and asked, "Is it really that hard to reach the ninth level?"

"Legend has it that the ninth level represents immortality. Reaching this level means you can live forever."

"That's quite an exaggeration," Larry said, astonished.

Cody smiled. "It's just a legend. No one has ever reached this level. Maybe Victor Veil did, but he still died of old age, which suggests the legend isn't reliable. However, reaching this level would make someone the greatest martial artist in the world, and that title is incredibly tempting for any martial artist."

Cody took a deep breath and continued, "A thousand years ago, the four retainers divided Victor Veil's wealth, establishing the Four Ancient Families. For centuries, the Four Ancient Families lived in peace. But with the theft of Victor Veil's Tomb and the spread of its contents, the Four Ancient Families have been on edge."

Larry couldn't help but ask, "Was it the Four Great Families who found Victor Veil's Tomb and sent people to rob it?"

Cody shook his head. "The Four Great Families didn't know about it. They have always stayed out of external affairs. It was only recently that someone informed the Bennett family that the items from Victor Veil's Tomb were in your possession. That's when I sent people to retrieve them."

"So it wasn't the Four Great Families who sent people to rob the tomb?"

Larry was puzzled. If it wasn't the Four Great Families, then who was it?

Besides the Four Great Families, who else could know about Victor Veil's Tomb?

Cody shook his head. "I don't know."

Larry fell into deep thought.

During the tomb robbery, Alistair sent people to steal the items, but they only managed to get the box, not the key. Kairo took the box to Sunset City and placed it in Timeless Treasures Antiques.

And Timeless Treasures Antiques seemed to be waiting for him to retrieve the box.

How did Alistair know about the tomb robbery?

Who was behind the hired tomb robbers?

Who was behind Alistair?

Was it someone else behind Alistair besides Greg?

"By the way, who is behind Alistair?" he asked.

Cody replied, "It should be Greg Strother."

"Greg?"

"Yes, a martial artist with great strength and influence."

"Did he send people to rob the tomb?"

Cody shook his head. "Probably not. He doesn't know about the Four Families and couldn't possibly know the exact location of Victor Veil's Tomb, let alone its layout."

Larry's confusion deepened.

If it wasn't Greg, then who was it?

And the person who stole the items seemed to want to give them to him.

Could this person have some connection to him? Or was there someone else behind Alistair besides Greg?

To find out, he would have to return to Sunset City and ask the owner of Discovery Antiques.

Although he had asked before and got no answers, he felt that the owner of Discovery Antiques must know something.

Putting aside his chaotic thoughts, he asked, "Why did you bring me here? Just to tell me about the origins of the Four Great Families and the Artwork of Moonlit?"

Cody shook his head slightly and pointed to the Artwork of Moonlit on the wall. "The painting hides a supreme secret, and the key to unlocking it lies in the eighteen meridian diagrams in the box. I've been studying them, but haven't figured out the secret. You've seen the eighteen meridian diagrams."

"Yeah," Larry nodded. "I was the first to open the box and saw them."

Cody continued, "Your situation will be very dangerous. Various forces will want to kill you and create chaos to take advantage of the situation. Your key to survival is to become stronger. The Artwork of Moonlit is here. I'll give you three days. Whether you can understand anything from the painting depends on your wisdom."

Cody brought Larry here to see if he could unlock the painting's secret.

Larry, without any guidance, had cultivated his Qi and reached a certain level on his own.

This potential was terrifying.

If Larry could unlock the secret of the Artwork of Moonlit and gain something from it, it would greatly help him and the Bennett family avoid this crisis.

If he couldn't, the Bennett family wouldn't lose anything.

At worst, they could stir things up.

With the Bennett family's strength, other forces would have to think twice before acting against them.

Larry smiled wryly. "You have too much faith in me. You're a martial arts master, and you couldn't figure out the secret. How can I?"

"Whether you can or not, you have to try. For the next three days, Paisley will bring you meals. Focus on studying the painting. You can take it down to examine it, but you can't take it away."

With that, Cody turned and left.

The underground chamber became silent again.

Lamps on the walls illuminated the room as if it were daylight.

Larry was also very interested in the Artwork of Moonlit. He wanted to see what secrets it held, if any.

As Larry stared intently at the Artwork of Moonlit, he heard footsteps.

He turned his wheelchair to see a woman in a white dress carrying a small box.

It was Paisley.

"Larry, Grandpa asked me to bring you this box."

"Okay," Larry nodded.

Paisley handed the box to Larry.

Larry took it.

Paisley glanced at the Artwork of Moonlit on the wall and encouraged him, "Good luck. If you can uncover the secret, Grandpa will find a way to get the remaining three paintings and fully unlock the secret of the four paintings."

"I'll do my best," Larry said, without much confidence.

"I'll leave you to it."

Paisley didn't stay long. After leaving the small box, she turned and left.

The chamber fell silent once more.

"Artwork of Moonlit, a treasure passed down for a thousand years. Eighteen meridian diagrams. Are they really connected?"

Larry was filled with anticipation.
