Chapter 229 The Girl from Back Then
Visionary was a total jerk.
Back in the day, he was the school bully, making life hell for a lot of kids. Now that he’s gone, everyone’s pretty much throwing a party.
Larry was chilling, playing games solo. A few folks came by to say hi, but he just gave a little nod and kept on gaming.
Then, a sweet voice called out, "Larry?"
Larry looked up and saw a woman standing there.
She was in her twenties, rocking a white dress, and she was drop-dead gorgeous.
Larry squinted, "Daisy Woods?"
Daisy looked a bit surprised, "You know me?"
Larry gave a small smile, "What’s up?"
Daisy plopped down across from him, grinning, "Not much. Just wanted to sit here 'cause your name’s Larry."
"Cool," Larry said, not really caring, and went back to his game.
Daisy kept staring at him, knowing he wasn’t the Black Dragon she was thinking of. It was just the same name, but it still tugged at her heartstrings.
Larry felt all kinds of awkward with this beautiful woman staring at him. He couldn’t focus on his game at all. He put his phone away and asked, "If you’ve got something to say, just spit it out."
Daisy smiled, "Nah, I just wanna sit here. Is that a problem?"
"Whatever," Larry shrugged and got up to leave.
"Wait."
"What now?" Larry turned back.
"Never mind. It’s nothing."
Daisy had wanted to chat, but she realized there was no point with this Larry.
Not far off, Chloe and Abigail were hanging out with some classmates. Abigail’s crew was pretty exclusive, but Chloe’s mind was on Larry, who’d been sitting alone for a while.
She worried that dragging Larry out and then ignoring him would bum him out. Seeing a pretty woman talking to him made her feel better.
At least Larry wouldn’t be bored with some eye candy around, and Chloe felt relieved. Seeing him alone and lonely just made her feel guilty.
Seeing Daisy looking troubled, Larry sat back down.
He remembered Daisy a bit. Back in school, there were two troublemakers: Visionary and Daisy.
Daisy was a wild child back then. She always dressed weird and had a gang of rebellious girls with her.
She smoked, drank, gambled, and her grades were trash. But she had a thing for the class president—Larry.
Larry remembered Daisy once wrote him a love letter, but he shot her down.
Thinking about it, Larry couldn’t help but chuckle. Those were some wild memories.
"So, how’ve you been these past ten years?"
Seeing an old classmate brought back memories, and Larry couldn’t help but ask.
"Me?" Daisy looked a bit shocked, then said, "Back then, I wrote a love letter to Larry, but he turned me down. He said I needed better grades than him to even think about it. But I bombed the graduation exam that year."
Daisy didn’t know why she was spilling her guts to this Larry. These thoughts had weighed on her for too long; she just needed to vent.
Larry smiled, "What happened next?"
Daisy sighed, "I don’t know. Larry disappeared. Later, I found out something happened to his family. The next year, I went back to school. I started hitting the books hard, remembering what Larry said. The following year, I got into college."
Larry was a bit taken aback. He didn’t expect that oddly dressed Daisy from back then to buckle down and get into one of the top schools in the country.
"That's pretty awesome," Larry said, looking at the now angelic Daisy and giving her props.
"Thanks," Daisy grinned.
They started chatting away. Meanwhile, someone sidled up to Chloe and teased, "Hey Chloe, your hubby's getting hit on. That chick's Daisy, a real flirt back in the day. She used to mess around with all the guys. Now she sees your man’s a tough guy and is trying her luck. Better watch out."
Chloe laughed, "It's just a class reunion. They're just talking. No biggie." She had faith in Larry.
"Chloe, you're too nice."
"Come on, Chloe, spill the tea on your Larry. You're gorgeous, and the Lewis Family is loaded. How’d you end up with him?"
A bunch of classmates started gossiping. Talking about Larry made Chloe smile.
She corrected them, "My husband’s not a loser; he’s just super humble. If he wanted, he’d be famous in Sunset City by now. He just doesn’t care about chasing shallow fame."
Chloe was being real, but her classmates didn’t buy it. They thought they knew what kind of guy Larry was.
Everyone gathered around, and soon it was time to eat.
Over a hundred people from two classes, plus some family members, packed into the hall to start dinner.
Xavier showed up to sing for entertainment. He had a deal to sing 20 songs, raking in $100,000 per song.
With Xavier singing, the vibe was lit.
Xavier stepped off the stage, mingling with the crowd, singing and high-fiving people like it was a concert.
He got to Sawyer’s table. Sawyer was pumped, quickly put down his bowl and chopsticks, and stood up to high-five Xavier.
But he was so hyped that he knocked over a bowl of soup, spilling it all over Xavier.
The singing stopped dead. Xavier’s handsome face turned dark. He was a neat freak, hating anything dirty, and he wasn’t too fond of his poorer fans either.
Now his clothes were drenched in soup, and he glared at Sawyer. Sawyer panicked and kept apologizing, "I’m so sorry."
Xavier snapped, "Does 'sorry' help? Do you know how much this outfit costs? It’s a one-of-a-kind piece by a top designer, worth three million dollars."
"Three million dollars?" Sawyer was stunned. The scene caught a lot of attention.
Abigail saw it too and quickly walked over, asking, "Xavier, what’s going on?"
Xavier pointed at his clothes, "Take a look."
"Xavier, I apologize on his behalf. With so many people, accidents happen."
"Abigail, my outfit is worth three million dollars. I get paid two million dollars for a performance. Are you asking me to take a loss?"
Xavier was pissed. He was short on cash lately. With the clothes ruined, he wouldn’t wear them again.
Abigail asked, "So what do you want to do?"
Xavier started to speak, but as soon as he opened his mouth, he saw Larry walking over.
Seeing Larry was like seeing a ghost; his expression turned panicked, and he immediately changed his tune, "Chairman, you’re here too."
Larry glanced at him, then at Sawyer. He said calmly, "Just sing and don’t cause trouble."
"Yes, sir." Xavier didn’t dare say another word.
Everyone was now staring at Larry. Abigail was also looking at him, frowning slightly.
Chairman? What chairman?
