Chapter 419 Secret
Even though Shadow was in Aurora Citadel, he knew everything about Sunset City.
He was aware of what happened last night.
That's why he came to find Larry.
"You really went overboard this time," Shadow said, his usually calm face showing a hint of seriousness.
Larry looked at him.
Shadow continued, "You had a direct confrontation with Alistair, forcing him to blow up the research base and destroy all the evidence. Now, it's gonna be a real pain to catch him. Alistair's super cautious and never leaves any traces. We finally had a lead on him, and now it's all gone. Bringing him down is gonna be tough."
Larry responded calmly, "What's the point of bringing him down? He's not the mastermind. There's someone behind him. Taking down Alistair will just bring out another one."
Shadow looked at Larry with a hint of surprise.
He didn't expect Larry to know so much in such a short time.
He also didn't expect Larry to have mastered Qi and become a grandmaster in martial arts so quickly.
Larry looked at him and asked, "Who's behind Alistair? Is it the Four Ancient Families?"
Shadow shook his head. "No, Alistair is just a branch member of the Powell family, one of the Four Ancient Families. The Four Ancient Families wouldn't get involved in the internal conflicts of Summer Nation."
Larry was surprised by how much Shadow knew.
It seemed Shadow was more than just a bodyguard.
"So, what do you need from me this time?" Larry asked.
Shadow handed Larry a file.
Larry took it and asked, "What's this?"
Shadow replied, "Since you've already had a direct confrontation with Alistair, he can't be left alone. This file contains evidence of Alistair's crimes over the years. With this evidence, you can ruin him."
Larry looked through the file, puzzled.
If Shadow had this evidence, it meant the King knew about Alistair's activities all along. Why hadn't the King taken him down earlier? Why make Larry go through all the trouble to find evidence?
Shadow seemed to understand Larry's thoughts.
He explained, "It's complicated. The King has wanted to clean house for a long time, but the power dynamics in Aurora Citadel are intricate. Every major figure has their own interests, and these interests are interconnected. Alistair isn't just backed by the Powell family; he has many supporters. Moving against one person could affect everyone, so the King has to be cautious."
"Why act now?" Larry asked.
"Because you're the executor. The King wanted you to find the evidence and bring Alistair down yourself. But time is running out, and you've risen to prominence. Only you can kill Alistair and remain unscathed."
"Why?"
Larry was confused.
Just because he mastered Qi, he was now the executor?
The power dynamics in Aurora Citadel and Summer Nation, besides the Four Ancient Families, what other forces were at play?
Who was behind Alistair?
What was the plan from a hundred years ago?
All these questions were mysteries to Larry.
He didn't understand, and no one told him.
Shadow said, "Because you're from the Bennett family, the head of the Four Ancient Families. You're now a grandmaster in martial arts, even if you're just starting out. You've shown great potential. If you step forward, it's as if the Bennett family is stepping forward. No matter how powerful the forces in Aurora Citadel are, they have to respect the Bennett family."
Larry took a deep breath.
Shadow's words revealed some secrets.
The Bennett family's influence in Summer Nation was undeniable.
"I need to know more," Larry said, looking at Shadow.
He didn't want to act blindly. He needed more information to feel confident.
Shadow looked at Larry and asked, "What exactly do you want to know?"
"I want to know about the plan from a hundred years ago, the King's actions against the Gu raising people, and the current power dynamics in Aurora Citadel. Who are the major players?"
Shadow was silent for a moment before saying, "It's too complicated to explain all at once. You'll understand in time."
Larry pressed, "One last question."
Shadow nodded. "Go ahead."
"Who is the current King's chosen successor, and what is the King's stance?"
Shadow replied, "I don't know about the King's successor. But I can tell you that the King's stance is always for the development and welfare of the nation. Everything the King does is for the people, not for personal gain."
Larry felt reassured by Shadow's words.
"By the way, you mentioned that I'm just starting as a grandmaster in martial arts. What does that mean?"
"It's the division of Qi levels."
Larry looked at him. "Please explain."
Shadow said, "The first level is the lowest, and the ninth level is the highest."
"That simple?"
Shadow replied, "What did you expect? Something more complicated?"
Larry asked again, "How strong is the ninth level?"
Shadow was silent for a few seconds before shaking his head. "I don't know. In the thousands of years of Summer Nation's history, reaching the ninth level is extremely rare. If anyone did, it would be Victor Veil, the founder of the Four Ancient Families."
Larry took a deep breath. He didn't expect Shadow to know so much.
"What about the eighth level?"
Shadow said, "Eighth-level masters are also very rare in history. The only ones I know of were Victor Veil's four retainers, the founders of the Four Ancient Families. But they've been dead for a long time."
"And the seventh level?"
"I don't know," Shadow shook his head.
"What's the highest level among the current grandmasters in martial arts?"
Shadow stood up. "I've said enough for today. You'll learn more in time. The file contains the King's secret order. You can return to Southwild, resume your role as Dragon King, and retrieve the Execution Sword from the Hall of Judgment to kill Alistair."
With that, Shadow turned and left.
Larry watched him go.
This seemingly ordinary man was a true master.
Even though Larry had mastered Qi and become a grandmaster, he knew he stood no chance against Shadow.
"What level is Shadow?" Larry murmured to himself.
He was sure Shadow was a grandmaster, but he didn't know what level.
"The situation in Aurora Citadel is more complicated than I thought," Larry sighed deeply.
The King planned to move against Alistair.
But Larry knew that killing Alistair was just the beginning.
Once Alistair was dead, the situation would become chaotic, and who knew who would emerge next.
But at this point, he had no choice but to continue.
"Return to Southwild and resume my role as Dragon King?"
He muttered to himself.
Trinity, lying in the hospital bed, had heard the conversation between Larry and Shadow.
She didn't understand it all, but she knew Larry had been reinstated.
"Larry, congratulations."
Larry looked at Trinity, a bitter smile on his face. "What's there to celebrate? If I had a choice, I'd rather be an ordinary person, living a carefree life."
