Chapter 96 Shut Down the Court and City Hall
In the inner room of the Mortal Clinic, Frank was sleeping.
Sensing someone coming in, he immediately turned over and got up, turning on the light.
As soon as the light was on, he saw Larry walk in.
"Mr. Bennett, what brings you here?" Frank asked.
Larry's face showed a hint of helplessness. "Had a fight with Chloe."
"What happened?" Frank was taken aback.
Larry sighed deeply.
Frank handed him a cigarette.
Larry took it.
Frank lit it for him.
Larry took a deep drag. "It's nothing major, just a little misunderstanding."
He explained the situation.
Frank couldn't help but laugh. "This is killing me, as the Black Dragon of Southwild, you got kicked out of the Lewis family."
Noticing Larry's displeased expression, Frank immediately shut up and said seriously, "Mr. Bennett, if you want me to kill someone, I can do that, but this... I really can't help you."
Larry waved his hand slightly. "I didn't expect you to. I'll explain when Chloe calms down."
"Are you staying here tonight?"
"Let's take this chance to go out and have a few drinks."
Larry dragged Frank out of the Mortal Clinic and found a barbecue joint on the street. They ordered somemeat and some beer.
On the other side, Chloe had been crying.
She cried herself to sleep.
On the next day, she woke up very early.
She had just taken over the Everjoy Company, and there were many things waiting for her to handle. She also needed to organize relevant materials to apply for entry into the Trade Center.
The Trade Center hadn't fully opened for business yet. Only some truly large corporations barely qualified to move in first, while smaller enterprises had to wait until the official opening to submit their applications.
"Chloe." As soon as Chloe walked out of her room, Maria came over and said, "Hurry up and divorce Larry. I've already found a wealthy man for you. He's young and rich, definitely a good match. If you don't like my choice, you can find someone yourself. Samuel from the Pavilion Restaurant is not bad."
"I'll see." Chloe was absent-minded.
She was heading to the company, but before going to the company, she had to go to the court to handle the divorce procedures with Larry.
She didn't have breakfast and went straight out to catch a cab to the court.
On the way, Chloe called Larry.
Last night, Larry drank a lot.
He was still asleep when the phone rang.
Without opening his eyes, he groped for the phone by the bed and answered it by feel, "Who is it?"
"See you at the government office at nine."
Hearing Chloe's voice, Larry instantly woke up and got energized, turning over and getting up.
"Chloe..." Before Larry could say anything, Chloe hung up.
Larry sat on the bed in a daze for a few seconds, then kicked Frank who was sleeping beside him.
Frank woke up instantly.
Rubbing his eyes, he asked, "Mr. Bennett, what's wrong?"
"Chloe wants to meet at the government office at nine. What should I do?"
"This..." Frank was at a loss, looking troubled. "Mr. Bennett, I don't know. I've never even been in a relationship, let alone married or divorced."
"Think of something quickly."
"I..." Frank looked troubled. Then he said, "I... I'll call Sue. Sue is a girl; she should understand."
Larry looked at the time. It was almost eight o'clock. He kicked Frank again. "What are you waiting for? Call her quickly."
Frank immediately picked up the phone and called Sue.
Last night, Sue was busy at the Epoch Group until three in the morning. She had just arrived at the company when she received Frank's call.
After learning the situation, Sue was also at a loss. "Frank, you're asking me, but who can I turn to? I've never been in a relationship either, let alone married or divorced."
She had no solution, and neither did Frank. After hanging up, he looked at Larry innocently. "Mr. Bennett, Sue can't help either."
"What should I do now?" Larry started to worry.
Frank had a sudden idea and said, "How about calling Free King and asking him to shut down the court and city hall, temporarily suspending marriage and divorce procedures, and then we can deal with it in a few days?"
"Not a bad idea." Larry's eyes lit up.
He immediately called Free King.
At that moment, Free King was handling some important matters at the military district. When he saw Larry's call, his face instantly darkened, and he answered the phone.
Free King asked with a stern face, "Black Dragon, what are you up to so early in the morning?"
Larry's cheerful voice came through. "Free King, it's nothing major, just a small favor. My wife wants to divorce me. Can you use your authority to shut down the government office for me?"
"Black Dragon, don't push it." Free King was furious.
Shutting down the government office?
Free King, the commander of the Western Territory and now the leader of five military districts, couldn't possibly shut down a government office just because of a marital dispute.
"Black Dragon, Larry, stop fooling around. I'm not as free as you; I'm busy."
Larry shouted, "Frank, get me a hundred thousand troops from Southwild. I want to shut down the court and city hall in Sunset City."
"Got it." Hearing Larry and Frank's coordinated act, Free King was so angry he almost threw his phone.
However, he held back. "Larry, fine. Shutting down the government office? For small matters like this, can you stop bothering me? Just call Howard directly and let him handle it."
"So, I can come to you for big matters?"
Free King was so furious he couldn't say a word and hung up .
After hanging up, he immediately ordered, "Howard, find a reason to shut down the court and city hall and suspend marriage and divorce services."
Howard, hearing the order, thought he had misheard. "Free King, shut down what?"
"The court and city hall," Free King said word by word.
"Understood." Howard, puzzled, turned and left Free King's office.
Meanwhile, at the Mortal Clinic, after making the call, Larry felt much more at ease. "Now that the government office is shut down, Chloe, let's see how you divorce me. Frank, your idea is brilliant. I couldn't have thought of such a clever plan."
Frank's facial muscles twitched.
He thought, 'It's not clever at all. I have no other choice.'
"Alright, stop daydreaming. Hurry up and drive me to the court."
"Okay." Frank snapped out of it.
He and Larry left together, with Frank driving.
Chloe had already arrived at the court entrance.
She stood at the entrance, waiting for Larry.
"Isn't that Chloe?"
"Yeah, that's Chloe from the Lewis family. She just became the chairman of the Everjoy Company. I saw it on the news yesterday."
"What's she doing here?"
"Is she divorcing that loser Larry?"
Chloe was now a celebrity in Sunset City. With her beauty and grace, she was instantly recognized.
She didn't care about the comments from passersby.
She took out her phone and kept checking the time.
At nine o'clock, she called Larry again, her face showing displeasure. "What are you doing? Dragging this out? Where are you?"
"Almost there." Larry hung upe.
A few minutes later, he appeared in front of Chloe, with a bright smile on his face. "Chloe."
Chloe kept a stern face and turned to walk towards the court.
Larry quickly grabbed Chloe.
"What are you doing? Let go of me." Chloe shook him off.
Larry let go of her and smiled. "Chloe, I don't think today is a good day for a divorce. Besides, you can't get a divorce today."
Chloe's face darkened. "Larry, stop smiling at me. Divorce was your idea too. Once we're divorced, you can be with Helen."
"Chloe, I swear, there's nothing between Helen and me. If there is, may lightning strike me."
At that moment, a flash of lightning suddenly streaked across the sky.
Dark clouds gathered, signaling rain.
Chloe sneered, "Larry, stop making oaths. You might really get struck."
Larry glanced at the sky, seeing the dark clouds, and got even angrier. Even God was against him.
"Chloe, listen to me. If you don't believe me, at least believe your cousin Helen."
Chloe said coldly, "I know Helen too well.
"Helen has been infatuated with soldiers since she was a child. You are a retired soldier. It's no surprise she got close to you."
"What do I have to say for you to believe me?"
"Larry, it's come to this. There's no point anymore. I gave you a chance, and you didn't cherish it."
At that moment, a military vehicle quickly drove up, and several generals got out and went straight into the court.
Seeing Free King's men arrive, Larry sighed and said, "If that's the case, I have nothing more to say. Let's go."
He walked towards the court.
Chloe followed closely behind.
The staff in the court said, "Sorry, we can't process divorce services today. Please come back another day."
At the entrance, Larry smiled, "Chloe, see, even God doesn't want us to divorce."
Chloe was puzzled.
Seeing many people being turned away from the court, which then closed its doors, Chloe glanced at Larry again.
Without thinking much, she said coldly, "Then tomorrow."
Then, she turned and left.
Larry shouted, "You won't be able to do it tomorrow either."
However, Chloe had already gotten into a cab and left.
Larry touched his chin, murmuring, "As long as I don't agree, you'll never get a divorce."
