Chapter 358 Raising Gu People

"I'll kill you!"

Larry roared, setting Chloe down and springing to his feet. In a flash, he was in front of Alfonso, gripping his throat and lifting him off the ground.

Alfonso's face turned red instantly, but he stayed calm.

"Larry, think before you act. If you kill me, Chloe will suffer. I know you're good with medicine, but this is a Gu Worm I've been raising for thirty years. You can't just remove it."

Alfonso's voice was weak and shaky.

"Larry, it hurts so much. It hurts so much."

Chloe lay on the ground, writhing and pulling at her hair. She felt like bugs were crawling in her head, gnawing at her brain, the pain unbearable.

Chloe's screams snapped Larry back to reality. He slowly released Alfonso.

Alfonso slumped into a chair, rubbing his neck and giving Larry a faint smile.

"What do you want?" Larry demanded coldly.

Alfonso placed a small bottle on the table. "If you want Chloe to live, you need to take this."

"What is it?" Larry eyed the bottle.

It was a simple ceramic bottle, bronze in color.

"Don't worry, it won't kill you," Alfonso said calmly. "But your muscles will gradually waste away, and you'll lose all your strength."

Alfonso paused, then continued, "I originally planned to kill you, but I doubted you'd die for a woman. So I changed my mind. I believe you'll take it because you think your medical skills are unmatched and you can whip up an antidote for any poison."

"Now, take it, and I'll let Chloe go. Deal?"

"Larry, it hurts so much. Please, kill me. I don't want to live. Why is this happening to me?" Chloe's anguished cries echoed.

"Hope you keep your word, or else..." Larry picked up the bottle, unscrewed it, and swallowed the black pill inside without hesitation.

Alfonso watched Larry intently. After a few seconds, he saw sweat on Larry's forehead and veins bulging on his face. Alfonso laughed, "See? If you'd taken it earlier, none of this would have happened. Dealing with you is easy. Alistair made such a mess of things."

At that moment, Larry realized Alfonso and Alistair were in cahoots.

Larry felt his strength drain away and collapsed to the ground. He tried to stand but couldn't muster the strength.

"Let her go," Larry said weakly.

"Don't worry, I will. I keep my promises. But she won't escape unscathed," Alfonso said with a sinister smile. He approached Chloe and held something under her nose. A tiny worm crawled out of her nostril. Alfonso then gave Chloe another pill.

"What did you give her?" Larry demanded.

"She won't die," Alfonso replied with a grin. "It's a Gu poison that'll spread through her body, making her skin rot and turn black. She'll be hideously ugly."

Alfonso looked at Larry with satisfaction. "I wanted to kill you, but I promised someone I'd let you live. You're no longer a threat."

"Feeling weak all over? That's right. This is a special concoction I spent decades perfecting, just for someone like you. It's a shame, really. You were at the peak of your abilities, but now you'll never advance further."

"You won't die anytime soon. You'll be bedridden for years before you finally pass away."

Alfonso laughed heartily.

"Mr. Carr, these are Larry's belongings," a man said, handing over some silver needles and a thin wire taken from Larry.

Alfonso glanced at them. He didn't understand their medical significance and tossed them back to Larry. "Give them back to him."

"Why not just kill him?" the man asked.

"I'd like to," Alfonso sighed. "But he's a Bennett, and I promised someone to spare his life. He's no threat now. Let's go."

Alfonso turned and left.

Chloe's pain had subsided. She knew Alfonso had poisoned her again, but she felt no immediate discomfort. She staggered to Larry, trying to help him up, but she was too weak.

"Larry, don't scare me. Get up," she cried, tears streaming down her face. "It's all my fault. I dragged you into this."

Larry lay on the ground, completely drained. He was a doctor, but he couldn't diagnose his own condition. He wanted to stand but couldn't.

"Don't touch me. Let me rest," he said, his ears ringing. Chloe's sobbing irritated him, and he snapped.

Chloe fell silent.

After resting for about ten minutes, Larry felt a bit stronger and managed to stand. He took a few steps but was quickly out of breath.

"Damn it, what kind of poison is this?" he cursed, sitting in a chair.

Meanwhile, Alfonso descended Heavenly Mountain and called Alistair. "Larry's finished. He's no longer a threat."

"I wanted him dead. As long as he's alive, he's a threat," Alistair replied.

"He's as good as dead," Alfonso said. "But if you're worried, find a way to bring him down from his position. You're good at scheming. I'm sure you can handle it."

"Fine, I got it," Alistair said impatiently, hanging up. He had hoped Alfonso would kill Larry, but now he had to find another way to dethrone him.

Larry was a war hero, recently honored as Dragon King, a hero to the people. Bringing him down wouldn't be easy. After pondering for a while, Alistair finally smiled.

"Larry, let's see who can save you this time."
