Chapter 135 Not Ready
Chloe didn't know what to say, so she just pulled Larry back to the room.
Meanwhile, everyone else gathered around the expensive gifts.
Mindy eagerly grabbed some fancy dresses and jewelry, her excitement palpable as she dashed to her room to try them on.
"Sam, how do I look? Pretty?" Mindy twirled in the living room.
Sam exclaimed, "So beautiful, Mindy! That dress is perfect for you."
Mindy beamed, but Maria started to worry. "Mr. Carter is rich, and Mr. Bennett is rich too. Who should Chloe marry?"
"Marry both," Sam joked.
Maria slapped Sam on the forehead.
Sam quickly shut up and then eyed a box of money. "Mom, can I have this?"
Maria glared at him. "No, I'll deposit it in the bank tomorrow."
In the room, Chloe was fuming. "I'm going to The Serpent Group tomorrow to return these gifts to Mr. Bennett."
Larry smiled. "Chloe, these are for you. Just accept them."
"No, I can't. I'm married," she insisted.
Larry fell silent. The room grew tense.
They stayed in the room until late at night when everyone else was asleep.
Chloe decided to shower, and as she emerged, wrapped in a towel, her skin still glistening from the water, she glanced at Larry, who was holding a box, his heart pounding.
"Go take a shower," she said, blushing.
Larry rushed to the bathroom and showered quickly, coming out in just his underwear.
Chloe was already in bed, blushing as she lay beneath the blanket. She made space on the bed for Larry.
Larry , unable to contain his excitement, leaped onto the bed. Chloe shivered slightly at the sudden movement, her thoughts swirling with the gravity of the moment.
Chloe thought she was ready to give Larry her first time, to finally become a real couple.
But as Larry got closer, she felt a twinge of fear about the future and marriage.
Larry leaned in to kiss her, but Chloe's anxiety overwhelmed her. She pushed him away, gasping.
"I'm not ready yet, Larry. Can we wait a little longer?" she said, avoiding his eyes.
Larry was stunned. 'What's going on? We agreed on this.'
After a brief moment of silence, Larry smiled. "It's okay."
He got off the bed and laid a blanket on the floor. Chloe felt confused and scared when Larry kissed her.
"Come up and sleep," she said, not wanting him to spend the night on the floor.
Larry smiled. "It's okay, I'll sleep on the floor. When you're ready, I'll come up."
Larry didn't want to push Chloe. He couldn't. Without her, he wouldn't be where he was today. He'd support any decision she made.
But to Chloe, Larry's words sounded like he was mad.
"I..." Chloe tried to explain but couldn't find the words.
The night passed in silence. Chloe couldn't sleep, but Larry slept soundly.
In the morning, Chloe rubbed her eyes, feeling dazed from lack of sleep. She saw Larry was already awake, putting away the blanket and stepping out to the balcony to smoke.
Chloe watched him through the window, feeling lost. She got up, dressed, and walked to the balcony. "Larry," she called.
Larry turned around.
Chloe looked apologetic. "I'm sorry about last night."
"It's okay," Larry said with a smile. "We just got married without really knowing each other. It's normal to feel this way. Take your time. We have plenty of it."
Despite his comforting words, Chloe still felt guilty.
'Larry has endured so much in the Lewis Family, but I...' Chloe sighed.
"Don't be sad. It's really okay. I'm not mad at you," Larry said, putting his arm around her shoulder. "I won't force you to do anything. I never have, and I never will."
The more Larry reassured her, the guiltier Chloe felt. "I'm going to The Serpent Group today to return the gifts and explain everything to Mr. Bennett."
"Okay," Larry nodded.
Chloe looked at him. "Give me some time."
Larry smiled. "I told you, it's okay. Let's go."
They went to the living room where Maria, Scott, and the others were already up, buzzing with plans. They intended to visit the villa Mr. Bennett had given them and then go to the bank to deposit the money.
Chloe said firmly, "We can't accept these gifts. We need to return them."
Sam protested, "Chloe, are you crazy? These gifts are worth millions. We can't return them."
Maria sternly said, "We can't return them. Chloe, you have to choose between Mr. Bennett and Mr. Carter. If you want to return the gifts, then date Mr. Carter. If you don't like him, Mr. Harper is also an option."
"I don't want to talk to you anymore. I'm going to The Serpent Group to explain everything to Mr. Bennett." Chloe stormed out.
Larry glanced at Maria and Sam, smiled, and said, "If you want the gifts, keep them. I'll talk to Chloe."
"Smart move," Maria said.
Sam added, "Larry, just get a divorce so Chloe can find another man. With her looks, many rich men will pursue her."
"I'll check on her," Larry said, walking out the door.
But he didn't go after Chloe. She was heading to The Serpent Group, so Larry had to get there first to meet her as Mr. Bennett, the one who sent the gifts.
He thought, 'If she doesn't like this version of me, maybe she'll like the other version.'
