Chapter 256 Abigail's Call
After Larry saved Esmeralda, he just took off.
Unlike his usual heroics, this time he helped her out because he figured she wasn't a bad person and didn't mean any harm.
He could tell she was a good-hearted girl just by the way she kept him away from Yorick, who was about to break his legs.
Larry went to grab a bite to eat.
Meanwhile, Paul was dragging Luke around to see a bunch of doctors.
Every single one of them shook their heads, saying they couldn't do anything for Luke.
"Dad, what am I gonna do? I'm not even married yet, and I still want to have fun with more women," Luke was almost in tears. Last night, that hot woman tried to help him all night, but his equipment just wouldn't work.
Paul was just as stressed. None of these doctors had a solution.
"Luke, don't worry. I'll take you to the city hospital for a check-up."
Paul took Luke to the hospital for a full-body exam. The result? Loss of sexual function. His equipment was out of order, and there was no fixing it.
Hearing this, Luke nearly passed out.
Paul cursed, "Damn Larry."
"Dad, go find Larry and make him fix me. I can't live like this," Luke clung to Paul, begging non-stop.
Paul quickly said, "Luke, don't worry. Tomorrow's the medical conference, with famous doctors from all over coming to Sunset City. Someone's gotta be able to help you."
Begging Larry was out of the question. Even though Paul wasn't a big shot, he was still a billionaire. How could he beg a loser?
After Larry saved Esmeralda, Yorick started digging into Larry's background.
Larry was somewhat known in Sunset City. What made him famous wasn't his skills but the fact that he married into the Lewis Family, becoming a so-called loser.
In a big villa in Sunset City, Esmeralda sat bored on the sofa, with a bunch of bodyguards standing around.
Looking at the bodyguards, she said, annoyed, "Alright, you can leave now. What danger could there be at home? You're so annoying."
Just then, Yorick walked in. "Esmeralda, I found out."
Esmeralda perked up, "Who is he? Tell me quickly."
Yorick said, "The guy who saved you is named Larry. He's a son-in-law of the Lewis Family in Sunset City. They used to be an ordinary family with assets over a billion dollars. But recently, Larry's wife Chloe offended some powerful families, leading to their downfall."
Yorick shared what he found. From Chloe being the ugliest woman in Sunset City to becoming the most beautiful because of Larry.
But everyone still called Larry a loser, never mentioning his medical skills.
Esmeralda, touching her chin, said, "This is strange. Someone who can heal Chloe's scars and save me must be very skilled in medicine. Why would he marry into the Lewis Family and become a loser?"
"Yorick."
"Yes, ma'am."
Esmeralda said, "Take a billion dollars to thank Larry and hire him as my personal doctor."
"Alright, I'll go right away."
Yorick nodded and quickly left. He also called the manager of the Vale Family in the north to report the situation.
"Do as Esmeralda says. A billion dollars is nothing to the Vale Family. We must make Larry Esmeralda's personal doctor."
"Understood."
Yorick hung up and quickly went to find Larry, who had already returned home.
Victor and the others were still there, discussing without reaching any conclusion.
Larry couldn't be bothered with all the drama. He figured he'd let the Lewis Family stew for a bit and help them out after the medical conference.
He headed back to his room, where Chloe was sitting at the desk, deeply engrossed in a book.
"Hey babe, whatcha reading?"
Chloe put down the book and smiled, "Just some stuff I picked up. I'm bored at home, so I thought I'd read a bit."
Larry nodded approvingly, "That's great."
He was really pleased that Chloe hadn't given up on herself despite everything and was still keen on learning.
Just then, his phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. He answered it.
"Hello, who's this?"
"It's me, Abigail."
Hearing Abigail's voice, Larry frowned. "What's up?"
Abigail's scolding voice came through the phone, "Larry, what the hell are you doing? You're taking a $5,000 salary from the Epoch Group but not working. You haven't closed a single deal in ages."
Larry frowned. Why was Abigail on his case now?
Chloe asked, "Honey, who is it?"
Larry said, "It's Abigail."
"What's going on?" Chloe glanced at him and said, "Put it on speaker."
Larry reluctantly put the phone on speaker.
"Larry, you need to take your job seriously. Do you think you can just take a $5,000 salary for nothing? Get to the office immediately. If I don't see you within half an hour, pack your things and get out."
Larry looked at Chloe, feeling helpless. He said, "Abigail is the vice president of the Epoch Group, responsible for the company's affairs. I'm a salesperson at one of the Epoch Group's subsidiaries. She's my boss. But I don't get why she's managing me now."
Chloe scolded, "Abigail's right. I've never seen you take your job seriously. Now hurry up and get to the office."
Larry nodded reluctantly, "Alright."
He wanted to see what Abigail was up to. He left and drove to NextGen City.
NextGen City, the Epoch Group headquarters.
After finishing a meeting and handling her tasks in the office, Abigail used her privileges to dig into Larry's file and found his personal information and performance records.
She frowned at his zero performance.
How could someone like this stay in the company? She decided to give Larry a lesson and called him directly.
She checked the time; it was only 4 PM, an hour before the end of the workday.
Larry arrived at the Epoch Group headquarters and headed straight to Abigail's office.
Before he could reach Abigail's office, her secretary stopped him, "What are you doing here?"
A young woman, around twenty years old, spotted Larry with his hands casually tucked into his pockets. She immediately called out to him.
Larry looked at the young woman approaching in high heels.
The sound of her heels hitting the floor echoed.
"This is VP's area. Which department are you from, and what are you doing here?" The young woman scolded as she approached.
Larry scrutinized her and smiled, "I'm here to see Abigail. She asked me to come."
Abigail's secretary looked at the ID badge on Larry's chest and frowned, "Why would Abigail want to see a salesperson?"
Abigail was the vice president of the Epoch Group, managing all the subsidiaries. The people who saw her were usually the presidents of the subsidiaries.
How could a mere salesperson have the right to meet Abigail?
"Stop messing around. I won't make things difficult for you. Just leave. If Abigail finds out, you'll be in big trouble."
