Chapter 421 Cabinet Room
Chloe stared at the old man who introduced himself as Richard, her face full of confusion.
She didn't know much about the Bennett family because Chloe had never known Larry's true identity. Even after she found out, Larry never told her about the Bennett family.
But she did know that ten years ago, a fire had killed everyone in the Bennett family, leaving no survivors.
She had no idea how Richard had survived.
And she had no clue what the Cabinet Room was.
She asked, puzzled, "Are you really Larry's grandfather?"
"Who else would I be?" Richard glanced at Chloe.
Chloe asked again, "What's the Cabinet Room?"
Richard's face remained calm as he said, "All you need to know is that it's an incredibly powerful organization. If you become the heir to the Cabinet Room, you'll be the most powerful woman in the world."
Chloe was stunned.
Then she exclaimed, "So it was you! You've been opposing Larry all this time?"
Richard smiled faintly, neither confirming nor denying it. "Didn't you want to make Larry regret? If you agree, Larry will never be able to compete with you. The four warlords under the Cabinet Room are all stronger than Larry is now."
"I would never agree to that. Get out of my car," Chloe said sternly, pointing to the door.
Richard shrugged and said, "I guess I didn't misjudge you. Actually, I was just testing you. Larry is my grandson. Why would I oppose him? Do you know how many enemies he has right now?"
Chloe was even more confused.
What was this old man up to?
"Do you know why he isn't with you?"
Chloe asked, "Why?"
Richard replied, "First, you hurt him before. Second, he's not free to do as he pleases. He has too many enemies. He's worried that if he stays with you, his enemies will use you to threaten him. He's protecting you. Also, he now has several other women around him. This kid is too stubborn to see that having multiple lovers is normal for a man."
Hearing this, Chloe's face darkened.
Richard continued, "Alistair is dying. Once Alistair dies, chaos will ensue. The king thinks bringing Larry into the picture will solve everything, but the old stubborn members of the Bennett family won't care about Larry's Bennett family status. Once Larry takes action, it will lead to disaster."
Richard seemed to be talking to Chloe, but also to himself.
Chloe didn't understand a word of what he was saying.
He looked at Chloe, saw the confusion on her face, and smiled, "Now you have a choice. Do you want to take revenge on Larry, or do you want to protect him in secret?"
"What do you mean?" Chloe asked, puzzled.
Richard smiled and said, "Whatever choice you make, I'll support you. If you choose revenge, Larry will lose everything he has now, and you'll control him. You can take him somewhere far away and be together forever."
Chloe asked calmly, "And the other option?"
Richard said, "The other option is to help him in secret. What he's doing is dangerous. You can help him through tough times when necessary."
"Can I really do that?"
"As long as you agree, you can."
Chloe fell into deep thought.
She wasn't sure if this man was really Larry's grandfather.
"How can I trust you?"
"Haha..." Richard laughed. "Believe it or not, it's up to you. I'll give you a day to think about it. Call me when you've made up your mind."
He took out a card and tossed it to her before opening the door and getting out of the car.
Chloe took the card, which had a phone number on it.
She watched Richard leave, her face full of doubt.
"Richard?" Chloe murmured softly.
She felt she had to tell Larry about this. The things she had said before about making Larry regret were just words spoken in anger.
She got out of the car and quickly walked towards the hospital. But when she returned to the ward, Larry was already gone.
She looked at Trinity lying in the hospital bed and asked, "Where's Larry?"
Trinity tried to sit up, but she was covered in bandages and had several tubes attached to her. She couldn't get up and said weakly, "Larry's gone back to Southwild."
"Southwild?" Chloe was stunned. "Why did he go to Southwild?"
"Larry said he's going to take command of the Black Dragon Army, return to Aurora Citadel, and kill Alistair."
"Kill Alistair?" Chloe exclaimed.
Earlier, Richard had said that Alistair was dying, and once he died, chaos would ensue. If Larry took action, it would lead to disaster.
"Chloe, actually, I..." Trinity began to explain.
But Chloe didn't look back and hurried out.
After leaving the hospital, she took out the card Richard had given her and dialed the number on it. She walked towards the parking lot while making the call.
The call went through, but no one answered. She opened the car door and got in. As soon as she got in, she saw an old man sitting in the passenger seat.
She was startled and patted her chest, saying, "Mr. Bennett, you scared me."
Richard smiled and asked, "So, do you believe me now?"
Chloe's expression was serious as she said, "Larry has already gone back to Southwild. He's about to take command of the Black Dragon Army, return to Aurora Citadel, and kill Alistair. You said before that if Larry takes action, it will lead to disaster. Is that true?"
"Of course."
"Then how can I save him?" Chloe looked at Richard with hopeful eyes.
"I told you, become the heir to the Cabinet Room, and you'll be able to help him."
"Okay, I agree."
Chloe didn't want anything to happen to Larry. She didn't know if the man in front of her was really Larry's grandfather, but as long as she could help Larry, it didn't matter who he was.
Abigail had always said she didn't understand Larry, that she didn't know what Larry was doing or what he wanted to do. Thinking about it, she realized it was true.
She thought to herself: If others can do it, so can I. I'm not just a pretty face.
Richard took off the ring from his thumb and tossed it to Chloe, along with a black token.
Chloe asked, "What's this?"
Richard said calmly, "The Cabinet's Ring and the Cabinet's Token. In the Cabinet Room, they recognize the token, not the person."
Chloe looked at the token. The front of the token was engraved with the word "Cabinet," and the back had a mysterious pattern.
She put it away and asked, "What should I do next?"
"Someone will come to find you," Richard said, opening the car door and getting out again. "Remember, don't tell Larry."
Richard's voice echoed.
"Mr. Bennett..." Chloe wanted to ask more, but Richard had already walked away.
The underground parking lot fell silent again, as if no one had ever been there.
Chloe looked at the Cabinet's Ring and the Cabinet's Token in her hand, murmuring softly, "Cabinet Room, what kind of organization is this? Is he really Larry's grandfather, Richard? Didn't he die ten years ago? Why is he still alive, and why does he want me not to tell Larry? What if he's a bad guy trying to harm Larry?"
Chloe felt conflicted. At this moment, her mind was in turmoil, and she didn't know what to do.
