Chapter 495 Paisley's Fear
White Mountain was a pristine forested mountain range within Summer Nation's territory, with no inhabitants nearby.
Over a dozen helicopters landed one after another in an open area. Larry was the first to disembark, followed closely by Alden, then Howard and the accompanying warriors.
Larry surveyed the rolling mountains around them and asked, "Alden, where is it?"
Alden pointed toward the mountains ahead. "Right under that mountain up front. When I hid this fortune here years ago, I never planned to use it again in my lifetime, because all these gold, silver, and jewels came through dirty means. They were bought with other people's lives."
Larry nodded slightly, then turned to instruct the warriors, "Bring the baskets and stay close. Let's move out."
The group entered the deep mountains, heading toward the treasure's location.
Meanwhile, back in Sunset City, Megan received detailed intelligence.
"Ms. Ward, Larry has appeared at White Mountain. According to reliable intel, Alden hid a cache of gold, silver, and jewels at White Mountain several years ago. This trip is to retrieve the treasure."
Megan pondered, "Wealth? Does Larry really need money?"
She closed her eyes in thought for about ten minutes, then suddenly opened them. "The money he used to create PaxGen Pharmaceuticals all came from Xerxes. Right now, he can't come up with any funds. If I'm not mistaken, he wants to use Alden's fortune to compete against VitaGen Medical."
A smile played at her lips. "Larry, while I can't kill you, there's no way you're bringing this fortune back."
She gave her orders: "Head to White Mountain immediately. Stop Larry from bringing the fortune back."
At that moment, at the Bennett Manor in Aurora Citadel.
Paisley and Cody sat together playing chess.
"Paisley, the Rivera family has sent word—they've agreed to the marriage alliance. In just a few days, people from the Rivera family will arrive in Aurora Citadel."
Paisley paused slightly, then nodded gently. "Okay."
"Don't feel wronged. You're marrying the youngest son of the Rivera family head. He's only twenty years old but already a master of the first realm."
"Grandfather, Paisley doesn't feel wronged."
"Stop worrying about the intelligence on Larry. Just hand it over to me."
Paisley's phone vibrated. After checking it, she said, "Grandfather, Larry and Alden have gone to White Mountain together to search for the gold, silver, and jewels. Megan is following close behind. I'm afraid there'll be a fierce battle."
Cody waved his hand dismissively. "No need to worry. Megan just doesn't want Larry bringing the fortune back. I've already made it clear—no one dares to trouble Larry."
"Is there really no danger?" Paisley frowned. "Megan is cunning and resourceful. Now that Larry has no more use to her, she might do something extreme."
"What, worried about Larry?"
"I'm just concerned that if Larry dies, the situation will become even more chaotic," Paisley quickly explained.
"It won't. Mr. Strother was the one who brought up the conference. He doesn't want the Four Great Families fighting each other at this time."
Silence fell over the room. After several dozen seconds, Cody suddenly spoke up. "If you're really worried, then go take a look."
Paisley looked up, not quite understanding what he meant.
Cody said, "I hand-copied several sets of top-level combat technique manuals from the library. These are secrets passed down by the Bennett family ancestors, never shared outside. Larry won't be able to return to the clan to train anytime soon. Go check on him and bring these to him. But you need to hurry back—return before the Rivera family arrives in Aurora Citadel."
With that, he stood up, hands clasped behind his back, and walked away.
Paisley's heart trembled. She knew her grandfather was angry.
Following him to the study, Cody took out the hand-copied manuals and handed them to Paisley. "Take them."
"Grandfather." Paisley lowered her head, not daring to accept them.
"Take them," Cody's expression darkened instantly as he barked the order.
"Yes." Paisley accepted the manuals.
"Go. Be back within five days."
As Paisley turned to leave, Cody called out, "Wait. Paisley, are you hiding something from me?"
Paisley's body trembled, and she immediately dropped to her knees. "Grandfather, Paisley wouldn't dare hide anything from you."
"Alright, I'm just asking. Get up, go quickly. You must deliver these to Larry personally—absolutely cannot lose them. If any outsider sees them, whoever it is, you kill them."
"Yes."
Paisley left, her heart pounding with fear. After leaving the study, cold sweat rolled down her forehead.
