Chapter 273 Threat
This tunnel was super long, taking like ten minutes to get through, and was already filled with a bunch of black business cars.
Brecken sped up and stopped in front of one of the black cars.
He hopped out quickly.
A few guys in black suits got out of the car in front, opened the door, and carried Chloe and Abigail into their car.
Cason got out too.
"Cason," Brecken called out as he walked over.
Cason gave a slight wave. "Sunset City isn't safe right now. You need to leave ASAP. I got you a villa in Valeria. There's a safe there with millions in cash, enough to keep you going for a while."
"Thanks," Brecken said quickly.
He ditched his car and jumped into another one, speeding off.
Cason got into his car and told the driver, "Let's go."
A few minutes after they left, a dozen cars rushed in.
A bunch of people got out.
They found the cars empty.
One guy made a call right away. "They've moved. There's no surveillance in the tunnel, so we can't tell which car Chloe got into."
Larry's face turned dark when he got the news.
He called Free, who picked up fast.
Free's voice came through the phone. "What's up?"
Larry said in a serious tone, "Chloe's been taken. No matter what you're doing, deploy the troops now, seal off the whole city, and set up checkpoints at all intersections. I need info on Chloe ASAP. By the way, they switched cars in the tunnel."
Larry quickly explained the situation.
Free looked troubled.
A lot of big shots were in Sunset City right now. Deploying troops would make him an enemy of these VIPs.
After thinking it over, he said, "Alright, I'll deploy the troops immediately."
Free hung up.
"Howard." Free called.
Howard walked in, saluted, and said, "Free!"
Free gave the order. "Deploy all city police forces right now, seal off the sea, land, and air, and set up checkpoints at all major intersections in the city."
Howard was shocked and couldn't help but ask, "What's going on?"
Free looked helpless. "Chloe's been kidnapped."
"What?" Howard's face changed, and he exclaimed, "Who has the guts to kidnap Chloe?"
Free shook his head. "How would I know? Just do it."
"Got it."
Howard went off to carry out the orders.
Free also issued the deployment order.
Sirens blared in the military district.
As the sirens went off, military vehicles mobilized quickly, fully armed soldiers boarded the vehicles, and they drove out of the military district in a grand procession. At the same time, helicopters were also deployed.
After transferring Chloe and Abigail, Cason quickly drove out of the tunnel.
"Where to now?" the driver asked.
Cason's face was unusually serious.
This whole operation was a spur-of-the-moment thing.
Sunset City was Pharma City, and it was the annual medical conference. This place was also the headquarters of the five armies, with Free in charge. If it were any other situation, he wouldn't have come to Sunset City even if his life depended on it.
He took a risk to kill Larry.
He knew Chloe had a lot of protectors.
Now that the news of Chloe's capture had spread, given Larry's relationship with Free, the military must have already been mobilized.
"Get out of here. We need to leave before Sunset City is sealed off."
"Got it."
The driver hit the gas and sped off.
Valerian saw Larry's grim face and couldn't help but say, "It should be fine. They're after you; they won't hurt Chloe."
Larry had already figured someone might be desperate enough to grab Chloe to get to him.
He'd sent a hundred people to protect her, but she still got taken.
Now, he couldn't afford to panic.
The enemy's goal was to use Chloe to get to him. They wouldn't harm her; they needed her as leverage.
He figured they'd call him soon.
Right then, his phone rang with an encrypted number.
He answered calmly, "Who is this?"
A hoarse voice came through the phone. "Black Dragon, if you want Chloe to live, pull back all your troops from Flamecrest and surrender, or you'll be picking up her body."
The caller hung up right after.
Valerian shook his head. "It's a virtual number with multiple IP transfers. We can't trace it."
Larry asked, "Did you track Chloe's phone?"
Valerian shook his head, "Chloe's phone was left in the car; the location is still in the tunnel."
"Pull everyone out of Flamecrest."
"Understood."
Valerian gave the order right away.
Soon, all hidden personnel in Flamecrest withdrew, and Larry headed to where Lyra was.
He quickly arrived at the cave where Lyra was hiding.
To put on a show, Lyra pretended to be shot and hid in the cave.
When Larry appeared, Lyra quickly emerged and asked, "Why are you here early?"
Larry's face was somber. "The operation failed. They captured Chloe."
"What?" Lyra's face changed. "What are they trying to do? How can they break the most basic rules? Do they want to be blacklisted by their peers?"
Larry said calmly, "They're all after me. You should leave; staying here is dangerous."
"I can't leave."
Lyra shook her head.
This mess started because of her.
If she hadn't wanted to lure Cason out early, Chloe wouldn't have been captured.
"I'm telling you to leave," Larry said firmly.
Lyra was stunned.
After a few seconds, she nodded. "Alright."
She quickly left.
Larry sat on a rock at the cave entrance, smoking.
In the darkness, the faint red glow of the cigarette butt was visible.
Before long, Larry sensed someone approaching. He looked into the night and said coldly, "All of you, come out."
A loud laugh echoed. "As expected of Black Dragon. We just got close, and you already noticed us."
With the laughter, several figures emerged from the darkness.
There were men and women, old and young.
Larry knew these were top-ranked assassins. Their current appearances were all disguised.
At that moment, Larry's phone rang again.
"Larry, if you want Chloe to live, don't resist. Give up, and you'll see Chloe soon."
The caller hung up.
Larry looked at the people in front of him, his expression unusually calm. After finishing his cigarette, he stood up.
As soon as he stood up, they took a few steps back.
Larry said indifferently, "Don't worry. I won't make a move. You can go."
An old man walked over, threw a rope, and said coldly, "Tie yourself up."
Larry looked at the old man.
With just one look, the old man felt like a beast was staring at him. Even though he was used to life-and-death situations, his heart trembled.
Larry said nonchalantly, "Why don't you try tying yourself up first, and I'll learn from you."
