Chapter 221 Change in Attitude
The Everjoy Company was still worth a ton, but with all those debts, selling it would just cover what they owed.
Going bankrupt meant they'd be just another regular Family. No way around it.
"Babe, you really think you can find investors?"
Chloe eyed Larry, full of doubt. Larry gave a slight nod. Finding investors? Piece of cake.
He just felt bad for Victor and didn't want to see his life's work go down the drain.
Victor was stubborn, driven by his dream of making the Lewis Family great. Even at an age where he should be chilling, he was still grinding for the family. Plus, he had his principles. Otherwise, he wouldn't have set those family rules about staying grounded and honest.
Harry chimed in, "If Larry's got this, let's let him handle it. But Larry, if you can't find investors, you're out."
"Dad, you really trust this useless Larry?"
"We need to find help fast. Maybe someone knows someone in the Carter Family who can cut us some slack."
"Timothy's dead. We don't even know who's running the Carter Family now. How are we supposed to find help?"
The Lewis Family started to panic, huddling together to brainstorm. Some wanted to bet everything on Larry since they had no other options.
Others didn't want to see the family fall and were looking for another way out.
Victor, without a word, went upstairs with his cane, looking a bit hunched and worn out.
Maria, puzzled, said, "What's up with Victor today? Why didn't he chew out Chloe?"
Maria knew Victor well. Chloe had brought a huge mess to the family. Normally, Victor would be furious and kick her out. But today, not a peep.
"Chloe, let's bounce," Larry said, pulling her along.
Once they left the mansion, Chloe couldn't help but ask, "Babe, you really got a plan to find investors?"
She felt guilty and blamed herself for the family's mess. If Larry could find investors, that'd be awesome.
Larry grinned, "The Medical Conference is in a few days. All the top docs will be there. It's a big deal in Sunset City and nationwide. If I can shine there and become the top doc, finding investors will be a walk in the park, right?"
With Larry's skills, getting hundreds of millions to save the family would be easy.
But he didn't want to just hand over the cash.
Another option was to wait for the new Carter Family head to take over and then approach them. That could work too.
But Larry felt the Lewis Family needed a reality check to bring them together in the future.
After all, it was Chloe's Family, and he wanted them to be harmonious.
"Okay," Chloe replied softly, not saying much more.
They headed home. By the time they got back, it was already 1 AM.
Inside, Larry looked at Chloe with a grin. "Chloe, one more time?"
Chloe blushed and scolded, "Forget it, I want to sleep."
"Fine," Larry said, a bit bummed.
The night went by without a hitch.
Larry was up at the crack of dawn the next day.
After breakfast, the family headed to the hospital to check on Sam. He was looking a lot better after a night's rest.
But full recovery? That was gonna take a while. The doc said whether he'd walk again depended on how well he healed. If things went south, he might be stuck in a wheelchair for life.
In the ward, Mindy was bawling her eyes out. Sam tried to comfort her, "Babe, why the tears? I'm lucky to be alive."
After this near-death experience, he got it. He admitted, "This is all on me; can't blame anyone else."
He looked at Larry, gratitude all over his face.
"Chloe, Larry, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I'm already a dead man, lying in the morgue."
Larry felt pretty good about it and stood a bit taller. Sam had really turned a corner after this ordeal.
"Step aside, let me take a look."
He moved towards the bed. Mindy got up right away. Larry checked Sam's legs and hands, giving him a thorough once-over.
Sam had just had surgery. Like the doc said, whether he'd walk again depended on how well he healed.
After the check-up, Larry smiled, "You can recover. I'll have Mindy get some herbs for you later. Follow the treatment plan, and you'll be back on your feet."
Sam was stoked, knowing Larry was Black Dragon, a beast in both strength and medicine.
He'd seen Larry's skills firsthand when the Everjoy Company was in trouble, and Larry had sorted it out easily.
"Thanks, Larry." He quickly added, "Babe, thank Larry."
Mindy looked at Larry and huffed. If it weren't for Larry, Sam wouldn't have been in this mess.
"What's with the attitude?" Sam snapped, "Show some respect to Larry from now on. Got it?"
"Forget it."
Larry waved it off, "You're hurt. No need to get worked up."
"Larry's always the forgiving one," Sam said gratefully.
Chloe was puzzled. What was up with Sam? Why the sudden respect for Larry?
"Larry, you can head back if you got stuff to do. Take care of your business."
With Larry around, Sam felt uneasy.
"Chloe, should we head back?"
Chloe replied, "You go to the company first. I'll stay here with Sam."
Larry scratched his chin. He was just a nominal member of the Epoch Group.
"Alright, I'm out." Larry said and left.
He needed to check on Frank at the military hospital, so he left and drove over.
Military hospital, special ward.
Frank was lying in bed, hooked up to a ventilator, wires everywhere, surrounded by medical gear.
A young woman sat by the bed, staring at the unconscious Frank.
Larry walked in. Amelia stood up right away, "Larry."
Larry waved, glancing at the equipment.
Frank's vitals were stable. But Larry didn't trust these high-tech gadgets; he trusted himself more. So he personally checked Frank.
Then, he wrote a prescription and had someone get the herbs, instructing them on how to use the medicine.
