Chapter 210 Returning to Sunset City

With all those calls blowing up his phone, Larry knew something was definitely going down in Sunset City.

"Keep tabs on Frank," he ordered, then strolled out of the ward.

In the hallway, he whipped out a cigarette, lit it up, and dialed Chloe first.

It was 7 a.m., and Chloe was already up and at the Carter Family villa. She was in her white wedding dress, getting her makeup done.

Her phone buzzed. She saw it was Larry and hesitated, lost in thought. Should she pick up?

If she did, what would she even say?

After a moment, she answered.

"Chloe, what's up? I crashed hard last night and missed your call as soon as I hit the hotel," Larry's voice came through.

Chloe was a bit taken aback, then took a deep breath. "It's nothing, just focus on your work," she said, and hung up.

Larry was left scratching his head. Why did Chloe sound so off?

Just then, his phone rang again. It was Helen. "Helen, what's up?"

Helen sounded relieved. "Larry, I knew you'd be okay."

"Just spill it, what's going on?"

"Larry, where are you? You need to get back here, Chloe..."

Larry's heart raced. "What's wrong with Chloe?"

"Chloe's getting engaged to Justin from the Carter Family today. Where are you? I called you a million times last night, why didn't you pick up?"

Larry's face went dark.

Helen's voice was urgent. "The engagement's at noon. You need to get back, or Chloe's gonna be someone else's wife."

"I got it," Larry said, hanging up, his voice flat.

Now it all made sense. Everyone was blowing up his phone because Chloe was getting engaged, and he was the last to know.

He walked back into the ward.

Frank was lying there, hooked up to a respirator, in critical condition. But that was his wife.

He thought for a second and called out, "Idris."

"Get a private jet ready to take Frank back to Sunset City," Larry ordered.

"And quietly mobilize a thousand elite Black Dragon Army soldiers to head back to Sunset City. Wait for my orders once you're there."

"Yes, sir," Idris replied.

Larry had planned to wait until Frank was stable before heading back to Sunset City. But with Chloe about to get engaged, he couldn't wait.

"Justin, you're asking for it. You're gonna bring down the whole Carter Family," Larry muttered, clenching his fists, his face dark with anger.

Soon, the private jet was ready.

Soldiers carefully loaded Frank, respirator and all, onto the helicopter. Larry was right there with them.

Once everything was set, the helicopter took off for Sunset City. Two hours later, they landed at the Sunset City military district.

Free was there to greet them.

Seeing Larry step off the helicopter and Frank being carried out, badly injured, Free was stunned.

He walked over, hugged Larry, and said, "I knew you'd be okay. Thought you were a goner in Cedar Grove, Southwild. Scared the hell outta me."

Larry gave a faint smile. "How could I die so young? I still got a beautiful wife; no way I'm checking out early."

"You're still cracking jokes? I heard Chloe's about to get engaged to someone else." Larry's face darkened at that.

Free quickly switched gears. "What happened to Frank?"

Larry replied, "There was an accident. Get him to the military hospital ASAP. I want someone watching him around the clock and keep me updated on any changes."

"Got it," Free nodded, then barked orders, "Take General Frank to the military hospital immediately."

After that, Free walked alongside Larry. "How the hell did you end up in Southwild, fighting masters from twenty-eight nations in the Tianshan Mountains of Cedar Grove, and then get chased by an army of ten thousand? And then we hear you're dead?"

Larry's face darkened. "I sent Frank to Southwild to secure some funds, but he got ambushed and captured in Cedar Grove. The enemy wanted me to go solo to rescue him. It was a trap. I don't know who's gunning for me, so I faked my death."

Free nodded, getting the picture. "Do you have any idea who's behind this?"

Larry shook his head. "Not yet. All I know is someone named Nikolai gave the orders. I haven't dug into who this Nikolai is. Free, I need you to quietly investigate. See if there's anyone named Nikolai in Summer Nation. He goes by the nickname 'Miracle Healer.'"

"Got it."

Larry added, "Remember, keep it on the down-low."

"Yes, sir," Free nodded, then asked, "But if you're supposed to be dead, won't showing up now blow your cover?"

Larry's face was grim. He had planned to stay in the shadows, but with Chloe about to get engaged, he had no choice.

"Larry, let me handle this. I'll stop Chloe's engagement, and you can stay hidden a bit longer."

"Never mind," Larry waved him off. "I'll handle it myself. Besides, everyone knows Black Dragon is another Larry. Only a few know my true identity."

Larry had thought it through. Whoever was targeting him knew him well. It could be someone from the government or tied to his Family's downfall.

He had wanted to stay hidden, waiting for the enemy to slip up. But now, he had no choice but to show up. Whether he stayed hidden or not had its pros and cons. If he stayed hidden, the enemy would think he was dead and act recklessly. If he revealed himself, the enemy would keep targeting him, giving him a chance to learn more.

"In that case, I won't push it. If you need anything, just holler."

Larry gave a faint smile, then turned and left the Neon City military district.

It was now 9:30 a.m. The Carter Family villa was buzzing, packed with Sunset City's elite.

Upstairs, Chloe was in her white wedding dress, light makeup, and red lips.

She looked like a noble white swan, sexy and stunning.

Justin, in a black suit with a flower on his chest, walked over.

He gazed at Chloe, who looked like an angel, and took her hand, his face full of adoration.

"Chloe, you are so beautiful. It's my great honor to marry you. I swear, I'll treat you well and take care of you for a lifetime."

Chloe smiled gently, having made peace with the combination; Justin wasn't so bad after all.

But she felt guilty towards Larry, who had cured her.

And during this time, Larry had worked tirelessly for the Lewis Family, never complaining.

'Larry, I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you in the future,' she thought, closing her eyes.
