Chapter 177: Neil's Request
A birthday party quickly turned into Chloe's personal show with even Solene from the Martin family praising her.
The family was gathered for dinner when Cormac received a phone call that prompted him to suddenly stand up and shouted, drawing everyone's attention.
Mrs. Martin said discontentedly, "What's wrong with you?"
Cormac shared proudly, "Solene, I've been promoted to the military district."
Mrs. Martin responded, "What?"
"Promoted?" The whole family was shocked.
'How did he get promoted out of the blue?' they thought.
After a brief moment of surprise, everyone looked at Chloe.
Chloe was also puzzled and quickly explained, "Why are you looking at me? This has nothing to do with me."
Mrs. Martin asked, "Cormac, what position did they promote you in the military?"
The other family members urged, "Yeah, Cormac, tell us."
Cormac said, "I don't know either. They just called me to report."
Mrs. Martin said,"Then what are you waiting for? Go quickly."
"Okay," Cormac agreed, then he left immediately without even finishing his meal.
The Martin family continued eating and chatting.
After all the shocking events, Chloe's status in the Martin family skyrocketed, with everyone eager to flatter her.
Though she had planned to leave in the afternoon, the family, led by Maria, insisted she stay for another night of rest.
Chloe had no choice but to comply with Maria's wishes.
After lunch, Chloe retired to her room, where she remained deep in thought about the Martinez Family.
Despite not knowing Neil at all, she had promised Caius to spare the Martinez Family. Now, she found herself troubled by her lack of knowledge about Neil.
"Honey, what's wrong? You seem down," Larry asked as he came over to sit next to her.
"Honey," Chloe said with a troubled expression, "I don't know Neil, but I promised Caius. What should I do?"
Larry laughed, then remarked, "So that's it. Honey, I've noticed someone has been secretly following us."
Chloe exclaimed, "Really?!"
"Yes," Larry nodded in confirmation and continued, "It should be the Southwild Black Dragon military. If I'm correct, it must be the mysterious Mr. Bennett who sent them to protect you. He is likely the one behind Southwild Black Dragon. Neil must already know that you've spared the Martinez Family."
Chloe looked at Larry and asked, "How do you know?"
Larry said, "I was once a Southwild soldier, and I've met him. it's easy for me to sense someone following us."
Chloe looked skeptical, not quite believing Larry's words.
But she was also intrigued by the mysterious Mr. Bennett, wanting to know more about him. She couldn't help but ask, "What's the name of the Southwild Black Dragon commander?"
Larry hesitated slightly before saying, "Also Larry, same name as mine. That's why he took good care of me."
"Really, he's also called Larry?" Chloe exclaimed.
"Yes," Larry looked at the startled Chloe and asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
Chloe took a deep breath, forced herself to calm down, and replied, "Nothing."
Ten years ago, was the person she saved, Larry, Abigail's boyfriend?
Chloe wondered, 'Did I fall in love with my friend's boyfriend?'
Thinking of this, she shook her head to discard the chaotic thoughts from her mind.
Then, she suddenly remembered something and looked at Larry sharply.
"Honey," Chloe said.
"What's wrong?" Larry replied.
Chloe shook her head slightly, "Nothing."
She wanted to ask him if he was the Black Dragon commander?
But she had seen the mysterious Mr. Bennett. Although he wore a mask, his aura was completely different from Larry's aura.
Her husband could never be the mysterious Mr. Bennett, nor could he be the Black Dragon, or the one who has been secretly helping her.
Although Chloe didn't say anything, Larry already had a sense that Chloe was suspicious of him.
He didn't say anything either.
Soon it was evening when Cormac returned.
The whole family gathered around Cormac, asking about his day at the military district.
Cormac, looking very proud, boasted, "My current position is quite special. Not only am I a member of the Special Operations Training Team, but I'm also someone close to Neil."
One of the family members remarked, "What?"
Another chimed in, "Cormac, really?"
One more added, "Someone close to Neil?"
The Martin family was in disbelief.
Rowan also exclaimed excitedly, "Cormac, you can't be joking about this."
Cormac explained, "Rowan, I'm not joking. This was personally approved by Neil. He said that after the special training, I will be by his side, assisting him with various matters. Tomorrow, I have to report to the military district for the final review, and then I'll head to Sunset City for three months of special training."
"Oh, right," Cormac remembered something and said, "Tomorrow's review allows family members to attend. FIve spots are available. Rowan, who should I bring?"
One of the young members requested, "Cormac, take me."
Another member chimed in, "I want to go too."
Someone else added, "I've never been to the military district, Cormac. Please take me. I really want to see the review ceremony for the selection of the special operations unit."
The young members of the Martin family all spoke up.
Because of Rowan, they had admired soldiers since they were young. Now that they had this opportunity, they didn't want to miss it.
Rowan thought for a moment and said, "Since we can bring family members, let's give this opportunity to the young ones. Let them broaden their horizon."
The family gathered to discuss who gets the to go.
Meanwhile, Larry walked out of the room and went outside the Martins yard.
He had casually mentioned to Neil to find an opportunity to promote Cormac. He didn't expect Neil to place him directly by his side; the promotion was a bit too fast.
After stepping outside, Larry called Howard to get Neil's private phone number.
Howard promptly provided the number, then immediately called Neil to inform him that he had given his number to Larry. He also shared Larry's number with Neil , advising him not to ignore the call.
Neil nodded quickly in understanding.
After hanging up the call, Neil was puzzled, He wondered, "Why does Larry want my number? Did I do something wrong?"
While he was still pondering, the phone rang.It was Larry.
Neil immediately answered the call, respectfully saying, "Mr. Larry."
Clearly frustrated, Larry scolded him, "Neil, what are you doing? I asked you to take care of Cormac, but you placed him directly by your side. You should take it slow; don't you understand that?"
"Cancel it immediately. I hate nepotism the most. I asked you to take care of him and promote him a bit, not to give him special privileges", said Larry.
"Okay, you're right," Neil replied, nodding quickly.
As Larry continued to scold him, Neil listened attentively.
Finally, he pleaded, "Since you're in Neon City, can you come to the military district tomorrow to give these young people a speech? I believe it will inspire them and fill them with proud for life."
Neil already knew that Larry would be the chief instructor for the special training, which gave him the confidence to make this request.Otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to ask.
"This..." Larry hesitated, feeling troubled.
If he showed up, wouldn't he risk exposure? After all, there would be young members of the Martin family tomorrow.
Neil pleaded, "Commander, I beg you. You are the hope of all soldiers."
Larry instructed, "Alright, I agree, but cancel the family attendance."
"Yes, I'll arrange it immediately," Neil replied, overjoyed.
Larry hung up the phone, touched his nose, and chuckled to himself,"God of the military, hope of the soldiers," he mused.
People only knew his story, knew he was a legend, but they didn't know how much he had sacrificed over the past ten years.
