Chapter 35 The Grand Convoy
The night before the Free King succession ceremony, the heads of the three major families were tragically killed, causing a huge uproar.
After paying respects to the Bennett family, Larry returned to the Imperial Residence, took a bath, and changed his clothes.
After washing up, he took out his phone to check the time, only to find several missed calls and text messages.
It was already past 8:00 a.m.
At Chloe's home.
Chloe sat on her bed, holding her phone, constantly staring at it.
Last night, she waited all night, but Larry neither called nor texted.
She also resisted the urge to call Larry.
After a whole night, she couldn't hold back any longer.
She called Larry several times, but no one answered.
She sent a message. But there was no reply either.
At this moment, she was very anxious.
"Could it be that my tone was a bit harsh yesterday and hurt his self-esteem?" Chloe kept muttering, now full of regret. If she had known, she wouldn't have said those things.
However, Larry saw the message Chloe sent.
Chloe: [Larry, I'm sorry, I was too impulsive yesterday. I didn't mean to say those things. Please come back.]
Seeing this message, Larry smiled.
He wasn't angry with Chloe.
It was just that she was still angry, so he didn't explain much.
He felt guilty towards her.
Chloe saved him, but he selfishly jumped into the river, abandoning her.
To save him, she became the ugliest woman in Sunset City, a laughingstock, ridiculed by outsiders and family alike.
Now, as long as she was happy, he would do anything, except kneel to others, even if that person was her grandfather. Because he would never kneel to anyone.
This was the dignity of the Black Dragon.
He immediately replied to Chloe.
Larry: [Sorry, I just woke up and missed your calls. I'm coming back now.]
He originally planned to take a nap, but now he couldn't afford to sleep. He drove the unlicensed business car towards Chloe's home.
As he arrived at the entrance of the community, he saw many cars parked there.
These were the Lewis family's cars.
The entire Lewis family was present, including Chloe.
Today was the Free King succession ceremony.
The Lewis family had received an invitation.
The entire Lewis family mobilized, with dozens of cars. Leading the convoy was a Bentley worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, followed by Mercedes and BMWs worth tens of thousands of dollars. Only Sam's car was the cheapest.
Victor, a man who loved vanity, had received the invitation. Although only he could attend, he wanted everyone in Sunset City to know that the Lewis family had received an invitation, so he made a grand display.
There was even a banner on the lead car.
[Celebrating the Lewis family's Invitation to the Free King Succession Ceremony.]
In front of the Bentley, Victor, dressed in a green suit, leaned on a cane, looking radiant and energetic.
Larry drove the unlicensed business car, which had a special emblem on the front, resembling a Black Dragon or a black cloud.
Seeing the Lewis family, he parked the car aside and got out.
Ignoring the Lewis family members, he walked straight to Chloe with a bright smile. "Chloe."
"Larry." Chloe also stepped forward, holding his hand with an apologetic look on her face. "I'm sorry about last night. I was too harsh. Where did you go?"
"I slept at Frank's place."
"Bastard, you have no right to be here." Oscar walked over arrogantly, looking down on Larry. He glanced at the unlicensed business car with an unfamiliar emblem and said disdainfully, "Are you planning to drive this car to the military district? How undignified. And you..."
He pointed at Sam. "Look at the car you're driving. It's a disgrace to the Lewis family."
Harry walked over, looked at Sam and Larry's cars, and said coldly, "It's really embarrassing. Don't drive these cars. See if there's any space in someone else's car and hitch a ride. If it weren't for Grandpa's order that all Lewis family members must go, I wouldn't want your family to go."
"All the cars are full. Who has space?"
"Exactly, I think Scott's family shouldn't go."
Many Lewis family members chimed in.
Victor walked over with his cane. When he saw Scott's family members, Sam's car that was worth over thirty thousand, and Larry's unlicensed car that looked cheap, he frowned. "You guys shouldn't go. The people going to the military district today are all important figures. Driving these cars will disgrace the Lewis family."
"Grandpa..." Chloe wanted to speak.
Larry pulled her back and smiled. "Grandpa, then we won't go."
"Larry, what are you doing?" Chloe complained.
"Yes, we won't go." Maria was sensible. If they went, they would only be ridiculed. It was better to stay home.
"Let's go." Victor gave the order and then got into the lead Bentley.
The drum team hired by the Lewis family started beating drums.
The convoy set off grandly, attracting a lot of attention. Seeing the banner at the front of the Lewis family convoy, people started talking.
"The Lewis family is impressive! They managed to get an invitation to the Free King succession ceremony."
"Yeah, I heard it was Julia's boyfriend Luke who got the Foster Family to help."
"Isn't that Scott? Why didn't he go?"
"He's Victor's son, after all. Even some distant relatives of the Lewis family were invited, why doesn't Scott's family go."
"Don't mention him. Everyone knows he's a weak loser."
The discussions kept coming.
"Bastard." Maria glared at Scott. Since marrying Scott, she had never been respected.
"Chloe, do you want to see the Free King succession ceremony?" Larry asked Chloe.
Chloe shook her head slightly and said, "The ceremony is being broadcast live online. Let's go home and watch it on TV."
Larry held her hand and said, "If you want to see it in person, I'll take you there, and we'll sit in the front VIP seats."
He pointed to the car he drove. "Do you know what this car is? It's not an ordinary car. It's the only one in Southwild, and only one person in the world can ride it. I specially asked my superior to pull some strings to get it. The Western Territory Army wouldn't dare stop it."
"Really?" Chloe looked skeptical.
"Chloe, you shouldn't believe him," Sam said disdainfully, "It's just a cheap unlicensed car. It can't be unique."
"Bastard, a family of bastards. Scott is a loser, his son is incompetent, and the son-in-law he brought in is also a loser," Maria scolded, cursing the whole family.
"Chloe, let's go see the excitement." Larry couldn't be bothered with Sam and the others. He pulled Chloe into the car.
After getting in, he rolled down the window, looked at Maria, who was about to leave, and smiled. "Mom, why don't you come with us? There's nothing to do at home anyway. I heard the people going to the military district this time are all from real wealthy families. Didn't you want to find a rich guy for Chloe? This is a good opportunity."
"That's true." Maria nodded, looked at Larry, and said, "You're smart, knowing you're not good enough for Chloe."
Chloe, sitting in the passenger seat, got angry and scolded, "Larry, what do you mean?"
Larry smiled. "If I didn't say that, Maria wouldn't get in the car. Don't worry, I'll make you proud this time and let you see Victor's embarrassment."
