Chapter 277 Effortless
Larry checked the time; it was already midnight.
He thought for a second and then said, "Get me some paper and a pen. I'll write it down, and you go get it ready, quick."
Cason immediately barked, "Get paper and a pen, now!"
Someone quickly handed them over.Larry scribbled down the stuff needed to make a human skin mask and added some herbs to the list.
Seeing the list, Cason frowned and asked, "What do you need the herbs for?"
"That's none of your business. Just get them fast; we're running out of time."
Cason hurried off to make the arrangements.
Meanwhile, Larry closed his eyes to rest.
Cason was quick, and in less than an hour, everything Larry needed was there.
Larry got to work on the human skin mask. Once that was done, he started on the herbs. He kept at it until 4 a.m., leaving just two hours until dawn.
Larry stepped outside.
A bunch of assassins were sitting around outside.
None of them had slept; they knew tonight was critical. The military could surround the village any moment, and they had to stay sharp.
As Larry walked out, the assassins eyed him warily.
Larry sat on the doorstep and said with a calm smile, "We're all on the same team now. No need to be jumpy. Let's chat."
"There's nothing to talk about with you," said a guy in his late twenties, his face covered in paint, making it hard to see his features.
While making the mask, Larry had already called Lyra to get the lowdown on some of the top assassins.
He looked at the guy who had spoken and, judging by his outfit, knew who he was.
His real name was a mystery, but his code name was Shadowblade, a top-tier assassin ranked fifth on the assassin leaderboard, seriously dangerous.
Larry said, "Shadowblade, the fifth-ranked assassin."
Shadowblade snorted.
Larry looked at the others and said with a smile, "You guys know how risky it is to go to Sunset City, right? Free controls Sunset City now, and the five states are locked down. Getting in is easy, but getting out? Not so much. And Cason has already ditched you."
Larry spoke casually, "You probably don't know, but Cason never planned to take you with him. His real goal wasn't to kill me; it was to save Alden. He made a deal with Alistair. Alistair would bring Alden and give him a helicopter to leave safely, in exchange for my head."
The assassins all looked grim. They already knew.
But for a billion dollars, it was worth the risk.
As soon as dawn broke, they would find a way to leave. Once they left Sunset City and survived, they would get the money and truly retire.
Everyone present had the same thought.
A young girl glanced at Larry. "If we die, you won't survive either."
The girl looked about seventeen or eighteen, wearing a school uniform and with long black hair. She looked very innocent, and it was hard to associate her with being an assassin.
But she was not ordinary.
From the info Lyra provided, Larry knew she was also a high-level assassin, ranked third on the assassin leaderboard, with the nickname Fire Phoenix.
Despite her young appearance and schoolgirl disguise, she was ruthless when she killed people.
Larry looked at her and smiled. "You're wrong. Cason doesn't trust Alistair, so he teamed up with me. As long as Cason doesn't kill me, I can definitely get out alive. Cason knows he can't kill me, which is why he teamed up with me."
An old man asked, "Black Dragon, what do you mean by telling us all this?"
This old man was the one who had tied himself up in Flamecrest.
He was ranked fourth on the assassin leaderboard, real name unknown, with the nickname Bloodstorm.
According to Lyra, Bloodstorm was a womanizer who who squandered all his money.
Larry lit a cigarette and smoked quietly.
Everyone's eyes were on him, waiting for him to speak.
After a long while, Larry finally said, "Let's talk about life. Why did you become assassins?"
Hearing this, everyone looked at Larry in confusion, not getting what he was driving at.
Larry continued, "Let me guess why you're all here. You became assassins for the money. I bet a lot of you have families. You want to make enough cash to give them a better life. The plan is to earn big, then retire and live normally."
Everyone went quiet. Larry had hit the nail on the head.
They did missions for the money.
Larry went on, "And I believe Cason won't back out because the Shadow Syndicate isn't hurting for cash. But you won't live to see that billion dollars. At dawn, you'll meet your end."
Larry spoke up, "Do you really think you can break through a military blockade? Sure, you're experts in assassination and one-on-one combat. But against the military? No chance."
"What are you getting at?"
"Just spit it out."
"Say what you need to say."
The assassins were getting impatient.
Larry smiled faintly. "Actually, it's pretty simple. I can give you money or a normal life. Just stop being assassins, submit to me, and work for me. Everything you hope for will come true. Most importantly, you'll stay alive."
Larry laid out his offer.
"Think it over. Oh, and remember, there's only two hours until dawn. Time's ticking."
With that, Larry walked back into the house.
The group of assassins fell silent.
Larry made sense.
They were masters of assassination. But against the military, their chances were zero.
Larry went inside and leaned back on the sofa, closing his eyes to rest.
Before long, someone walked in.
He opened his eyes slightly.
A man in his forties, wearing a black jacket, with slightly dark skin as if he had been working under the sun, stood there.
"Black Dragon, I am willing to submit. I am willing to follow you," the middle-aged man said.
Larry looked at him with a smile. Ghost Assassin, a high-level assassin, ranked sixth on the assassin leaderboard.
He didn't expect an assassin to submit so quickly.
However, he didn't fully trust these assassins.
He took out a pill he had prepared earlier and tossed it over.
Ghost Assassin caught it and examined it for a moment, frowning. "What is this?"
Larry said calmly, "It's poison. I don't trust you. First, I'll control you with it. If you obey, you'll get the antidote. If not, you'll die. Think it over; I'm not forcing you."
Ghost Assassin hesitated briefly, then swallowed the poison.
Then Ghost Assassin said, "Give me ten billion dollars, and I'll serve you for the rest of my life."
Larry smiled faintly. "Alright."
How could he possibly come up with that much money?
But Cason had already promised them money. As long as he could win over these assassins, he could ask Cason for the money.
"Go rest now." Larry waved his hand slightly.
"Okay."
Ghost Assassin turned and left.
Not long after he left, someone else walked in.
A woman in a tight black leather outfit, with long silver hair, looked sexy and alluring, identified as Phantomface, ranked tenth on the assassin leaderboard.
Larry looked at the woman walking in. From head to toe, she was quite beautiful with a nice figure.
"Black Dragon, I'll work for you, but only if you can give me money and ensure my safety."
Phantomface stated her terms as soon as she entered.
Larry nodded. "No problem."
He tossed the poison to Phantomface. "Take it."
"What is this?"
"It's poison. After taking it, you'll need an antidote every week. Without the antidote, you'll die from the poison, your body will rot, and you'll be dead in three days."
Phantomface's face changed slightly.
Larry said calmly, "Think it over. Take it only if you're sure. I won't force you."
Phantomface hesitated briefly, then swallowed the poison.
Larry smiled faintly. "Alright, go rest now. At dawn, I'll take you away."
After that, top-ranked assassins came to find Larry one after another.
They had carefully weighed the risks; this mission was indeed dangerous.
And Larry's terms were very tempting. For the sake of survival and money, they all compromised and chose to follow Larry, willingly taking the poison.
Larry easily won over several powerful assassins.
With these strong allies, his future actions would be much easier.
