Chapter 133 Chloe's Emotional Breakdown
"Dad, are you sure the gift was from Mr. Bennett and not Mr. Carter?" Maria asked again.
Maria still thought the engagement gift was from Justin, not the guy Chloe had saved ten years ago.
Victor took a drag of his cigarette and nodded. "Yep, it was Mr. Bennett. The gifts are definitely from the guy Chloe saved from the Bennett Family ten years ago. They're for Chloe."
"I can't accept it," Chloe said quickly.
"You have to," Sam said, grabbing the keys to the limited edition Ferrari from the gift box. "Whether it's from Mr. Carter or Mr. Bennett, if it's for Chloe, it's ours."
"What are you doing? Put it down," Oscar scolded. "We haven't figured this out yet. It can't be for Chloe. It's for Julia."
"You're talking nonsense," Maria shouted. "The gifts are for Chloe. We're taking them."
"You're the one talking nonsense. Everyone knows Chloe is married. No one would be dumb enough to send such fancy gifts to a married woman," Julia stepped in.
Thus, the Lewis Family started arguing again over the gifts.
Larry was fed up. How could such a small thing cause such a big fight? He turned and walked out of the house.
Chloe saw this and felt disheartened. She knew Larry must be angry. She wanted to chase after him but didn't.
Outside, Larry lit a cigarette and called William.
"Mr. Bennett," William greeted upon picking up the call.
"William, I need your help with something," Larry said.
"Sure, Mr. Bennett. What's up?"
Larry explained the situation with the Lewis Family.
"Can you come to the Lewis Family and clarify that the gifts are from Mr. Bennett for Chloe?" Larry asked.
"Sure, I'll be there right away," William readily agreed.
Larry hung up.
He just wanted to make Chloe happy with some gifts, but it ended up causing so much trouble, even bringing up the incident from ten years ago.
He thought, 'Since there's a misunderstanding, let it be. I'm just repaying a favor. As long as Chloe is happy, it doesn't matter how it's done. If Chloe likes another version of me, then so be it. I'll explain everything when the time is right.'
After finishing his cigarette, Larry went back inside.
The argument was still raging. Maria insisted the gifts were for her family and wanted to take them.
Oscar, Julia, and Lily all thought they were for their family and wanted to keep them.
The Lewis household was in chaos.
Victor sat on the couch, puffing on a cigarette, lost in thought, seemingly out of ideas.
As soon as Larry walked in, Chloe quickly approached him, holding his hand with an apologetic look. "Larry, where did you go? I really don't know who this Mr. Bennett is, and the gifts might not even be for me. Maybe they're from another wealthy Mr. Bennett for Julia."
Larry smiled and said, "It was a bit stuffy inside, so I just went out for a walk."
Larry really wanted to tell Chloe everything. But that would go against his original plan. He was here to repay a favor, not to reveal his identity.
According to his plan, he would never reveal his identity and would silently protect Chloe for the rest of her life.
If he wanted to approach Chloe as Black Dragon, he wouldn't have resigned when he left Southwild.
Plus, his family, the Bennett Family, was tangled up with a mysterious force, the Four Ancient Families. And there was also the family's mysterious treasure map, the Artwork of Moonlit.
Larry didn't know how powerful the Four Ancient Families were, but one of the Five Great Marshals, the Aurora Emperor, was also from the Four Ancient Families. If they were enemies, it would be a big problem.
So, Larry couldn't reveal his true identity. He couldn't risk Chloe getting involved in such dangerous matters. For now, maintaining the status quo was the safest option..
"Larry, you have to trust me," Chloe said gently.
"I do trust you," Larry said, looking at Chloe. "Joining the Lewis Family and marrying you is my good fortune. No matter what happens, I won't blame you."
Chloe sighed deeply.
Meanwhile, William arrived at the Lewis Family home in record time, pulling up less than half an hour later.
Just as the family members were in the middle of their heated argument, there was a knock on the door.
A family member went to open it.
William walked in, accompanied by Sarah.
Seeing the unfamiliar faces, Victor, who had been sitting in thought, immediately stood up. The other family members did too.
Victor, leaning on his cane, walked over with a puzzled look and asked, "Who are you?"
William looked completely different now. Dressed in a black suit, he exuded authority, and Sarah, all dressed up, had an extraordinary presence too.
Both William and Sarah recognized Larry as soon as they entered the room, but having been briefed beforehand, they didn't say much.
William said, "I'm from The Serpent Group."
Everyone trembled at this. They had just been discussing The Serpent Group, and now someone from there had shown up.
Victor immediately invited William and Sarah to sit down.
Once they were seated, William got straight to the point, "I'm here on behalf of the chairman. There was a mix-up earlier—the gifts delivered should have gone to Chloe's home, not the Lewis Family mansion."
William pointed to the gifts in the hall and said, "These are gifts from our chairman to Chloe."
Hearing this, Chloe's body trembled. She walked over and asked, "Is the chairman's last name Bennett? Is he from the Bennett Family from ten years ago? Is he the person I saved?"
William smiled and nodded. "Exactly."
"What's his name?" Chloe stammered.
William smiled, glanced at Larry, and didn't say more.
"Take me to see him." Chloe's heart was pounding.
Chloe had known about this person for a long time but didn't know who he was. She had been dreaming about the person she saved, who also saved her. She dreamed of knowing who this person was.
Larry watched every emotion flicker across Chloe's face. He knew that Chloe had really fallen for another him, otherwise, she wouldn't be so emotionally unstable right now.
Larry had been with Chloe for a long time, and Chloe treated him well. But between them, there was always a lack of passion and love. It was more like familial affection, not romantic love.
Larry let out a long sigh.
William smiled and said, "You will see him soon. The chairman has planned a romantic wedding that will make you you the happiest woman in Sunset City."
William didn't say much more. After that, he stood up and left.
After William left, Maria burst into laughter. "I told you, the gifts are for Chloe. Julia couldn't be that lucky."
"My luxury car, my mansion," Sam also laughed.
Harry and his family, however, had somber expressions and didn't say a word.
Not long after William left, there was another knock on the door.
When the door opened, some police officers walked in, led by Xavier from the Professional Crime Investigation Department. Xavier took out an arrest warrant and said, "Harry, Oscar, you are both suspected of crimes. Please come with us to assist in the investigation."
