Chapter 187 The Visitor with Ill Intentions
Everlasting Group was just a processing plant with a four-story building near the factory aera.
According to Chloe's plan, they wouldcontinuously expand their business and strive to move to NextGen City, relocating the office building to the Epoch Group after the name change.
It was already 10 AM, and at Global Nexus Group, some employees were busy working in an open space with many tables outside the building.
A red banner was hanging at the top of the building. On it was a greeting:"Celebrating the establishment of Global Nexus Group."
A stage hadbeen set up, with some seats placed in front of it.
"Chairman, it's already 10 o'clock, why hasn't anyone arrived?"
Drake anxiously looked at the empty seats and turned to Chloe. "Why don't you call and ask?"
He knew about the rumors from the past few days. He also knew that the person who had been supporting Chloe all along was Southwild's Black Dragon.
Now that Black Dragon had resigned and was no longer one of the Five Great Marshals, he no longer held any connections in Sunset City.
Seeing that no one had arrived yet, Chloe frowned. She had sent out many invitations to leaders of large companies. If nothing had gone wrong, the place should be packed by now, rather than being empty.
Some employees gathered together, whispering.
"It seems like Global Nexus Group is doomed."
"Exactly. Before this, the company had support from the mysterious Mr. Bennett, also known as Black Dragon. Those big shots showed respect to him. Now that Black Dragon has resigned, why would those big shots care about this company?"
"I heard that Larry, the chairman of the Serpent Group, who is also Black Dragon, is in a lot of trouble now."
"Really? What kind of trouble?"
"You know the Four Great Families of Sunset City, right? They had been keeping a low profile because of Black Dragon. Now that Black Dragon has resigned, they have united to form the Business Growth Collective to go up against Larry. How can Larry compete with the Four Great Families without the prestige and power he used to have as Black Dragon?"
The news must have already spread throughout Sunset City, despite being mere rumors.
Chloe looked at the time; it was only 10 o'clock, still more than two hours before the event was slated to start.
"Let's wait a bit longer. There's still some time."
Harry sighed helplessly.
"There's a Bentley! It must be someone important."
By this point, everyone present was on edge. They looked toward the sound and saw a Bentley driving up, followed by several luxury cars, each worth millions.
Seven or eight cars parked in the parking lot.
Victor was the first to disembark, followed closely behind by other Lewis family members.
Chloe personally went to greet them, smiling. "Welcome, please have a seat."
Victor looked around and saw that, no one else had arrived, and he frowned.
Oscar immediately laughed, "Chloe, I thought many big shots would come to support you for the establishment of Global Nexus Group, but it turns out no one is here. What's going on? Is it because your benefactor is gone?"
Other Lewis family members also laughed.
"That's karma for you."
"Imagine leaving the Everjoy Company to join Everlasting Group, only to fail this badly."
"Black Dragon has too many adversaries. Now that he's resigned with deprived of power, those big shots won't bother to give him a lick of respect."
"Mark my words, Chloe's company will go bankrupt in less than two months."
Hearing the Lewis family's mean-spirited laughter, Chloe became gloomy. She had invited the Lewis family to the establishment ceremony out of kindness, but they were gloating impolitely at her predicament.
Maria walked over and boldly said, "You don't know how many big shots will be here to praise Chloe because of her own influence. Just you wait. Soon all the big shots like the Legion Lord and the CEOs of major groups like the Everlife Group will arrive."
"Maria, cut it out," Sam whispered, pulling Maria away. "Everyone knows that Chloe's benefactor is Black Dragon, but now the situation is very different. Rumor has it that Black Dragon was demoted. We can no longer rely on him."
Maria felt dejected upon hearing that.
Victor glanced at Chloe, nodded at her, and then walked toward the seats, his cane tapping with each step.
He came here observe the situation. If the rumors that Black Dragon had really fallen were true, those big shots would definitely not pay any respect to Chloe.
If that were the case, he could make an early decision.
Choosing the wrong side would be devastating for the Everjoy Company. Thomas's family had a poor relationship with Victor. Now, they had nothing to say to each other.
Time passed, minute by minute.
Before long, a luxury car drove up.
A handsome man in a white suit, with an extraordinarily impressive bearing, got out of the car.
There was another car behind him. An old man and a graceful woman got out of that car.
The man in white was Larry, disguised in a human-skin mask. The old man was William, and the woman was Sarah.
When Larry walked over, Chloe immediately stood up to personally greet him.
With a touch of joy and a slight blush on her face, she said excitedly, "Mr. Bennett, I'm so glad you could come."
Larry looked at the deserted scene and frowned, asking, "What's going on? Why is it so empty?"
Chloe looked embarrassed and said, "It's nothing."
However, at that moment, a convoy of about thirty luxury cars, each worth millions, drove up from a distance.
Seeing this, the Lewis family members' expressions changed slightly.
They thought no one would bother to give Chloe the time of day. They certainly hadn't expected so many people to come.
Maria proudly boasted, "See that? Even if Black Dragon has resigned and is no longer one of the Five Great Marshals, so what? Mr. Bennett was once one of the Five Great Marshals himself. He's not an ordinary person."
The Lewis family members remained silent.
Soon, the convoy arrived at Global Nexus Group.
Some people got out of the cars. Seeing these people, Larry frowned slightly.
William whispered beside him, "Larry, these are people from the Business Growth Collective."
"The Business Growth Collective? What's that?" Larry asked, looking puzzled.
William whispered, "It's a newly-founded coalition made up of the Hall, Johnson, Garcia, and Wilson families. Rumor has it that the Business Growth Collective was formed to go against the Serpent Group."
Larry frowned. He had just resigned, and the Four Great Families had already emerged.
A group of people got out of the cars. Leading them was a man in his thirties, wearing a black suit.
He walked over, speaking loudly. "Who's in charge here?"
Chloe promptly walked over and said, "I am the chairman of Global Nexus Group."
"Global Nexus Group?"
The man glanced at Chloe, smiled, and said, "This land, along with that factory area over there, now belongs to the Business Growth Collective. Here are the land deeds for your perusal. If everything looks to be in orderyou need to vacate the premises today."
Chloe's expression changed slightly.
Larry smiled faintly. "Looks like we have enemies."
