Chapter 140 No Love

Frank jumped up when he saw Larry walk in and quickly said, "Larry, it's not what it looks like. I don't even know her. I just bumped into her on the street, and now she's asking me to take care of her for three months."

Larry glanced at Amelia, who was sitting in a chair. She looked about twenty, with dyed red hair, heavy makeup, and a revealing dress.

Not wanting to get involved, Larry smiled, pulled out a document, and tossed it to Frank.

"Larry, what's this?" Frank asked, catching the document.

"Check it out," Larry replied.

Frank opened it and started reading. Amelia noticed the stamp on the document and recognized it as classified.

Curious, she stood up and asked, "What's this?" then snatched it away.

Frank snapped, "What are you doing? Give it back."

Startled by his sudden outburst, Amelia handed it back, muttering, "Fine, whatever, I don't care."

Frank's expression softened as he continued reading. He frowned. "What's this about? Why do I have to go?"

Larry replied, "You can refuse if you want. I'll just return the document to the higher-ups."

Frank thought for a moment. "If the higher-ups are asking, I'll go. Besides, there's not much happening in Sunset City."

Larry patted Frank's shoulder. "Isn't finding a wife a big deal? Take this chance to find a good one and have a son. By the way, who is this girl? Did you bring her out last night? Remember, someone like her is fun, but don’t get too attached. You need to find a proper wife."

Amelia was furious. "Who are you calling improper? You're the one who's improper. Your whole family is improper."

Frank quickly said, "Larry, she's just a lunatic. Ignore her."

Larry shrugged. "Since you agreed, I'll let Free know. Once the selection is made from the ten thousand candidates, you can go."

Larry left, and Amelia watched him go, then looked at Frank.

'Classified documents. Free. Ten thousand candidates?' She thought, 'Who are these guys? Could they be big shots?'

Her eyes lit up. She clung to Frank's arm. "Your name is Frank, right? Who exactly are you?"

Frank shook her off and ran out.

A Jeep was parked outside Mortal Clinic. Free was in the car, waiting for Larry.

Larry came out, tossed the document to Free, and said, "Frank agreed. He'll be the chief instructor but won't take orders from you."

Free was thrilled. "Great. I'll issue the order immediately. We'll start selecting people for a special elite task force today."

With Frank and Larry involved, Free knew the people they trained would be top-notch.

Frank walked over, smiled at Free, and said, "Free, I'll help, but I'm not taking an official position. If I want to leave, I'll leave anytime. Don't try to control me."

"Of course. You can leave whenever you want. We won't try to keep you," Free said with a big smile.

Getting support from Frank and Larry was already a huge win for him. He didn't expect them to stick around forever.

Amelia stood at the clinic entrance, staring in disbelief as she watched Free in the car. She was stunned. 'Is this really Free? Frank actually knows him and is joking with him.'

Free didn't linger. He told Howard, "Let's head back."

Larry quickly chimed in, opening the car door with a grin, "Give me a ride back to the Lewis Mansion."

Before getting in, he turned to Frank and said, "Frank, take it easy while I'm gone. Don't overdo it."

Frank looked embarrassed. Last night, he had overindulged. He got drunk and didn't even know how many people he was with. Just thinking about it made his blood boil.

It wasn't until Free's car disappeared that Frank snapped out of it. He took a deep breath and muttered, "I can't keep living like this."

He turned around and was startled to see Amelia behind him. "Are you trying to scare me, sneaking up like that?" he snapped.

Amelia bit her finger, staring at Frank. "Frank, who exactly are you?" she asked slowly.

Frank ignored her, turned around, and ran back into the clinic, slamming the door shut.

Amelia chased after him and kicked the door. "Frank, open up! You can't just run away from this!"

Meanwhile, Chloe and Abigail were out shopping. Abigail kept trying to convince Chloe to divorce Larry, calling him useless and unambitious, while praising Justin as a business genius.

All morning, Chloe was in a daze. After meeting the mysterious Mr. Bennett, she couldn't stop thinking about him. His demeanor, his speech, everything about him attracted her. Especially his decisiveness and confidence, which completely captivated her.

She kept comparing Larry to Mr. Bennett. The more she compared, the more ordinary Larry seemed. Doubts crept in, and thoughts of divorce began to surface. But then, she remembered how well Larry had treated her, how he had always taken care of her.

"Abigail, stop it. I know Mr. Carter is great, but I'm happy now. I don't care what others think of Larry. As long as he's good to me, that's enough," Chloe said.

Abigail sighed, "Chloe, you're too soft-hearted. I know he cured you, but that's not love. You should just pay him for his services. I can see you don't really love Larry."

Chloe looked at Abigail in silence, her thoughts spinning.

Abigail continued, "Think about it. When you met him earlier, I never saw you hold his hand. What you feel for him isn't love; it's gratitude. Listen to me, give him some money and let him go. If you don't have enough money, I can lend you some."

Chloe was lost in thought. 'Is this really not love? Is it just gratitude?'

Thinking back to her time with Larry, she realized she had never experienced the rush of excitement or the flutter of nerves that came with being in love. But with Mr. Bennett, she felt all those things. Her heart raced, she felt nervous, and she was at a loss. It was the kind of feeling she had only read about in books, the kind that signaled true affection.

At that moment, Chloe felt she didn't love Larry. There was no love, only gratitude for curing her.

She sighed deeply, trying to clear her mind of the swirling thoughts. "Abigail, thank you. I'll think about what you've said."
