Chapter 49 Being Tough for Once
Victor took out 20% of the family shares for Scott's family.
He also asked Harry to step down as executive chairman and to make sure he obtained Scott's family's forgiveness.
Chloe must be invited back.
Otherwise, Harry would be kicked out of the Lewis family.
Therefore, Harry prepared gifts again and went to Chloe's house.
This time, there weren't many people accompanying him.
Only Harry, his wife Yara, his son Oscar, and his daughter Julia.
All four of them were carrying gifts.
Harry gently knocked on the door.
Chloe's family was having dinner and chatting.
Maria instructed, "Sam, go open the door."
Sam put down his utensils and went to the door.
Seeing it was Harry's family, he immediately greeted them with a smile, "Harry, what brings you here? Come in, please."
In the morning, Maria had refused to return to the Lewis family, and Sam regretted it deeply.
Without the Lewis family, he would be unemployed and without a source of income.
Now that Harry had come again, he warmly accepted the gifts from them and led them inside. "No need to bring gifts. By the way, have you eaten? We're having dinner, join us."
He led Harry's family inside and shouted, "Mindy, what are you standing there for? Go get some more utensils."
Scott also stood up and called out, "Harry, Yara."
However, Maria put down her fork with a stern face and looked at Harry's family with a gloomy expression. "What are you doing here again?"
"Mom..." Sam quickly said, "You shouldn't be like this when Yara comes in person."
"Shut up," Maria scolded.
Harry wasn't angry at all and said with a smile, "Maria, I'm here to apologize. Look, Dad's 80th birthday is coming up, and it's good for the family to be harmonious. Besides, Dad said he would give Scott 20% of the family shares."
Sam was overjoyed. "Really?"
Mindy, who was coming out with utensils, also looked happy and quickly said, "Harry, Yara, don't just stand there, sit down. Larry, what are you doing? Get up and give them your seat."
Larry was about to get up.
"Sit down," Maria scolded.
Larry immediately sat back down.
Maria coldly looked at Harry's family and said, "What? Are you afraid that without Chloe, Legion Lord won't cooperate with the Everjoy Company? Victor kicked our family out of the family in front of so many important people. 20% of the family shares? Given today, taken back tomorrow? This is meaningless."
Although 20% of the family shares were tempting, equivalent to six million dollars in assets, Maria had been married into the Lewis family for decades and knew Victor's character very well. What was given today could be taken back in a fit of anger any day.
Sam said, "Mom, stop it."
"Mom, this is 20% of the shares. Even if you don't want it, think about us. Sam and I are about to have a baby. Think about your grandson."
Maria's attitude made Sam and Mindy anxious.
Oscar quickly apologized, "Chloe, I'm sorry. I was wrong before. I shouldn't have insulted you. Please come back and continue as chairman. The company needs you."
Julia also said, "Chloe, please come back. Grandpa said you can continue as the group's executive chairman with the same salary as before."
Hearing this, Chloe was tempted.
She did want to work and not waste her days at home. But seeing Maria's expression, she wisely kept silent.
"Not necessary." Maria's attitude was firm.
She didn't want to go back to the Lewis family and be mistreated again.
"Maria, there's no need to treat money as the enemy," Yara said with a smile, "It's 20% of the family shares. The Lewis family has a lot of businesses, and they're all profitable. 20% of the shares would mean at least 200 tousand dollars a month."
"Mom, please agree." Sam was almost in tears.
200 tousand dollars a month was a treatment his family had never had before. That was a luxury car every month.
"Mom, I beg you, stop being angry, okay?" Mindy also pleaded. Her dresses and makeup depended on the family shares.
Harry smiled and said, "Maria, let bygones be bygones. Look, Dad is being so generous this time, giving 20% of the shares at once."
Maria was also a bit tempted.
She thought, 'That 20% of the shares is money. Once Victor dies and the inheritance is divided, it could be worth millions of dollars.
'Scott, that useless guy, even if he worked his whole life, wouldn't earn that much.'
But thinking about the attitude of the Lewis family over the years, the grievances she suffered in the Lewis family, and Scott's status at home, she felt like crying.
She remembered yesterday when the Lewis family took credit for Larry's achievements and insulted her family.
She remembered this morning when Victor kicked their family out of the Lewis family.
She was very angry.
Since she chose not to go back, she wouldn't go back.
Going back would only bring ridicule.
Now she had made up her mind, she didn't want the money. Being poor at least meant freedom, not having to rely on others.
"Get out," she said firmly, pointing to the door.
Larry sat on the side, eating quietly.
He didn't expect that Maria, who loved money and always talked about divorcing Chloe to find a rich man, who knelt in front of Jane from the Johnson Family at the Pavilion Restaurant, would refuse the Lewis family's 20% shares.
"Maria, don't be ungrateful." Oscar instantly got angry.
His grandfather was turned down when caming personally, and now his dad was being turned down again.
Victor had offered 20% of the family shares, and Oscar was already unhappy about it.
Now Maria's attitude made him even more displeased.
Oscar added, "Grandpa isn't begging you to come back; he's begging Chloe. Chloe hasn't even spoken, so you don't get to decide."
Maria scolded, "Chloe is my daughter. Whether she goes back or not is up to me. Are you leaving or not?"
She stood up, grabbed a broom, and started chasing them out, closing the door behind them.
Outside.
"Dad, did you see that attitude?"
"Grandpa offered 20% of the shares, what more do they want? Are they really that greedy?"
Oscar and Julia cursed angrily.
"Alright, let's go back first," Harry said calmly.
Inside.
After chasing them out, Maria felt a bit regretful.
The Lewis family's 20% shares were worth six million dollars.
"Mom, you're being foolish."
"Mom, you've suffered so much in the Lewis family over the years, all the grievances. This is what our family deserves. You can't refuse it. Even if you don't think about yourself, think about me."
Sam and Mindy started complaining.
"Alright, stop blaming Mom," Chloe said, "Grandpa and Harry have always looked down on our parents, and I've made our parents lose their dignity. It's rare for Mom to be tough for once, and I support her decision."
Maria looked at Chloe and said, "Chloe is right. Rather than going back to be ridiculed and insulted, we should work harder. Aren't they planning a birthday party? Let's also have a wedding at the Imperial Residence and make that biased Victor angry."
Chloe confidently said, "Mom, don't worry. I will never let you lose your dignity again."
Larry smiled and said, "Mom, I know you want the family to have a better life and you want to go back, but you don't turned them downbecause of your pride. Don't worry, the Lewis family is afraid that Legion Lord will cancel the contract with the Everjoy Company. They will come back to beg Chloe. If you stay strong, we can get even more."
Maria felt a bit regretful and couldn't help but ask, "I acted so tough today, will they really come back? If they do, should I refuse or agree?"
Larry smiled and said, "That's up to you. You can refuse or agree as you will."
"Mom, if they come back, you must agree. I'll kneel to you," Sam said, kneeling on the ground.
"Spineless," Maria scolded, "Look at Larry, he's poor but has dignity. And you? For a bit of money, you don't even want your dignity."
Sam stood up and muttered, "Weren't you like this before?"
"What did you say? Say it again?" Maria stood up, raising her voice, grabbing Sam's ear, and scolded, "Are you getting bolder?"
"Mom, don't be angry," Mindy quickly said, "Sam is just thinking about us. Without the Lewis family's shares, our family has no money."
"So what? We won't go back," Maria said firmly, "All of you go find jobs. You have hands and feet. I don't believe that without the Lewis family, our family will starve."
