Chapter 182 Heading to Aurora Citadel Overnight
Chloe wanted to say that she wouldn't divorce her husband, but she just couldn't get the words out.
"I don't have much of an emotional tie with Larry; he just happened to be the one chosen to join the Lewis family."
When she said this, Larry understood.
After that, Chloe said a lot more.
They were all words of gratitude, but Larry was distracted.
The two had a meal together.
After the meal, Larry said, "Shall I take you back?"
"You don't have to," Chloe said, politely. "And I'll consider the divorce."
After saying that, she blushed and ran off, leaving Larry bewildered.
Larry watched Chloe leave, touched his nose, and said, "Divorce, eh?"
He smiled faintly and didn't say much more.
He drove back to the Serpent Group, changed his clothes, and tore off the human skin mask on his face.
Smoking a cigarette, he sat in the chairman's office chair, thinking.
At that moment, the phone rang. It was Frank.
Larry answered the phone and asked, "What's up?"
"Larry, Grim Reaper has found the whereabouts of the box that drifted from Southwild to Sunset City."
"I'm on my way."
Larry hung up the phone and immediately left the Serpent Group, heading to Frank's Mortal Clinic.
With its connections to his family's Moonlit Artwork and also the mysterious Four Great Families of Summer Nation, the box was very important.
He had only recently begun to learn about the Four Great Families of Summer Nation. He hadn't been aware previously that the Bennett familyhad such a significant background, with a history spanning thousands of years.
He quickly arrived at Mortal Clinic.
As soon as he entered, Larry asked, "What's going on?"
Frank said, "Grim Reaper sent a message that the box ended up in an antique shop in Sunset City. The owner of this antique shop has a significant background, connected to Aurora Citadel, and wants to speak with you in person."
"A significant background and connections to Aurora Citadel..."
Larry frowned, then said, "Prepare the car, let's go see Grim Reaper immediately."
"Right away," Frank said as he went to get the car.
Amelia also followed them out, saying, "Frank, I'll go with you."
Frank said, sternly, "I’m off to do something important. You'd just get in the way."
Amelia immediately teared up, looking at Larry with a disappointed expression. "Larry, he's being mean to me."
Larry glanced at Amelia. Amelia was quite good-looking, and she had been staying at Frank's Mortal Clinic these days.
Larry chuckled and said, "Frank, let her come along. It's not a big deal."
Since Larry said so, Frank stopped protesting and said to Amelia, "You can come along, but keep your mouth shut."
"Okay," Amelia said, finally smiling.
The three of them went out together. Frank drove towards the repair shop where Grim Reaper was.
They were then brought to a room in an underground chamber. Larry sat on the couch, with Frank and Amelia standing to the side.
The head of the underground intelligence organization, Grim Reaper, also known as the miracle doctor Matthew, stood across from them.
Larry, with a cigarette in his mouth, asked, "What was so important and sensitive that you had to say it in person?"
Grim Reaper, with a serious face, said, "Commander, I've tracked the box down to an antique shop in Sunset City. The owner is named Dashiell Whitlock. I looked into Dashiell's background and found that he comes from Aurora Citadel and has had multiple contacts with a significant figure from Aurora Citadel."
At this point, Grim Reaper paused.
"Who?" Larry said, glancing at him.
After a slight hesitation, Grim Reaper finally said, "Alistair."
Larry's expression turned grim.
Alistair, the most powerful of the Five Great Marshals?
"And what else?" he asked, looking at Grim Reaper.
Grim Reaper said, "I followed the trail of the box, uncovering quite a bit. I investigated a tomb raiding gang. This gang was paid by a mysterious employer who provided them with a map. The gang successfully entered the ancient tomb and found the box, but an unexpected event occurred. Someone stole the box, and the key ended up in Sue's hands."
Larry glanced at him and said, "Get to the point. Who took the box, and who is the employer?"
Grim Reaper said, "According to the intel, the person who took the box is named Kairo Navarro. He is a well-known figure in the underworld and brought the box to Sunset City. He is a trusted subordinate of Alistair."
"So, the mysterious employer is Alistair?" Larry's face turned unusually grim.
Grim Reaper shook his head slightly and said, "I can't be certain, but Alistair is involved in this matter. My intelligence network hasn't infiltrated Aurora Citadel, so I can't find out more about them."
Larry fell into a contemplative silence. After a long while, he said, "Alright, I understand."
He got up and left.
Frank and Amelia followed behind, and they made their way back to Mortal Clinic.
Inside the clinic, Larry sat in a chair, a cigarette in his mouth, deep in thought.
Ancient tomb, treasure box, key, Moonlit Artwork.
Based on the timeline, the tomb raiding gang's activities happened after he submitted his resignation.
It had been three months since then.
After arriving in Sunset City, he and Chloe looked for jobs together. He sensed a strong killing intent in the market, which led him to Sue.
It seemed like someone had deliberately arranged for Sue to be around him, letting the key fall into his hands.
'What is the mastermind behind this trying to do? Could the Bennett family's downfall ten years ago be related to Alistair?' Larry clenched his fists. It was serious if it really was Alistair.
'Why haven't they made the next move yet? Are they hesitating because my resignation hasn't been approved?'
Larry thought of many things at once.
He suddenly spoke. "Frank."
"What's up?"
Larry instructed, "Notify Free to prepare a private jet for me. I need to go to Aurora Citadel."
"Right now?"
"Yes."
"Alright, I'll arrange it right away."
Frank didn't hesitate and immediately called Free to arrange for a military jet. After the call, he took Larry to the military base.
At the Sunset City military base, a helicopter was parked in an open field.
Free looked at Larry, puzzled, and asked, "Larry, why are you going to Aurora Citadel at this time?"
Larry said, "I need to verify some things and meet the highest commander to ask why my resignation hasn't been approved yet."
Frank asked, "Are you really going to resign?"
Larry didn't reply and turned to board the helicopter.
The helicopter slowly took off and left, disappearing from Free and Frank's sight.
Free turned to Frank and asked, "What's Black Dragon up to?"
Frank shrugged slightly and said, "How would I know? But I feel like things are about to get crazy."
"What do you mean?" Free looked at him, puzzled.
Frank sighed deeply and said, "You know Larry's family has a treasure map. Recently, an ancient tomb in Southwild was raided, unearthing a treasure box related to that map. Now, Alistair is involved somehow. Larry probably suspects that the Bennett family's downfall ten years ago is related to Alistair, so he's going to Aurora Citadel to find out."
"What?" Free was shocked. "Why didn't you mention this before? Don't you know who Alistair is? He holds power in Aurora Citadel and is a master of schemes. What can Black Dragon find out by just barging in there? If they end up fighting, it's all over."
Frank looked helpless. He knew Larry's temperament and understood the gravity of the situation, but he had been powerless to stop him.
"I think Larry knows. After all, it's Alistair, the head of the Five Great Marshals. Larry wouldn't act rashly without solid evidence," he said.
"Let's hope so."
Free took a deep breath. He hoped things wouldn't turn out as he feared.
If Larry and Alistair became enemies, it would definitely cause major chaos.
