Chapter 459 Chloe Reads the Medical Classic

Larry left the gated community where Esmeralda lived and hopped into a cab straight to the Lewis Villa.

As he sat in the taxi, he got lost in thought. He and Chloe were already divorced. The only reason he had gone to the Lewis Villa before was because Chloe had threatened to kill herself, and she was also suffering from a Gu poison. He was worried about her condition. Now, Chloe seemed to have moved on, and he felt there was no need to stay at the Lewis Villa any longer.

"Sir, we're here," the driver's voice snapped Larry back to reality.

Larry nodded, paid the fare, and stepped out of the car.

By the time he arrived at the Lewis Villa, it was getting dark. The villa was brightly lit. He walked up and rang the doorbell, and the door quickly opened.

A man in his twenties, dressed in an expensive suit, stood at the door. It was Sam.

Seeing Larry at the door, Sam was momentarily stunned, then joyfully exclaimed, "Larry, it's you! You're back?"

Larry nodded slightly, "I have some things at the Lewis Villa. I'm here to pick them up."

"Come on in," Sam said, pulling Larry inside.

Sam used to be unfriendly towards Larry, thinking he wasn't good enough for Chloe. But after Larry saved his life and Sam learned about Larry's true identity, he began to see Larry in a new light. Larry, once the revered Black Dragon and one of the Five Great Marshals of Summer Nation, had married into the Lewis family and worked tirelessly for them. Even though he was no longer the Black Dragon, Sam believed that Chloe being with Larry was an honor for the Lewis family.

The villa was crowded. Not only were Maria's relatives there, but the entire Lewis family had gathered. The large living room was packed with people.

"Dad, Mom, Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Larry's back," Sam shouted as he led Larry inside.

The noisy living room fell silent instantly. Everyone turned to look at the door. Victor, Rowan, Mrs. Martin, and others all stared at Larry.

Larry hadn't expected so many people from the Lewis family to be there.

Victor, leaning on a cane, walked over with a beaming face and said, "Since you're back, don't leave. I promised that as long as I'm here, the Lewis family will take care of you, and you won't be mistreated."

Larry had once been the Black Dragon and had helped the Lewis family a lot. Victor had been too stubborn to see the situation clearly before. By the time he realized it, it was too late. Larry had already divorced Chloe and returned to Southwild to fight, only to be court-martialed and demoted to a commoner.

Chloe was also there. She had recently started assisting Abigail with the company business. Today was her mother's birthday, so she hadn't gone to the office. She wore an elegant white evening gown, her hair styled up, revealing her smooth forehead and exuding a noble aura.

She walked over, her long dress trailing on the floor, her beautiful face smiling as she reached out to take Larry's hand, "Honey, you're back. Today is Mom's birthday."

"I'm here to get my medical book," Larry said.

On the way back, he had thought it through. Since they were separated, there was no need to linger. He planned to take the second volume of the medical book and leave.

"Larry," a tall, stern-looking man in a military uniform, walked over. It was Cormac.

Because of Larry, Cormac had been selected for special training. The training wasn't over yet, but he had taken leave to come back and personally thank Larry.

Larry glanced at Cormac and smiled, "Not bad. You look much stronger already."

Cormac grinned, "The training's brutal, but I'm driven. I hope to be a national hero like you someday, protecting our country."

Larry waved his hand dismissively, "I'm no hero. I'm not the commander of the Southwild Black Dragon Army anymore. I'm just a regular guy now."

"In my eyes, you'll always be a hero," Cormac said firmly.

"Larry," Rowan approached.

"Grandpa," Larry greeted him with respect. He had immense admiration for these soldiers. It was because of them that Summer Nation had survived its toughest times and achieved remarkable progress.

"I've heard about your situation. It was indeed the Lewis family's fault, and Chloe's fault. Now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, come back. The Lewis family will always welcome you."

Larry shook his head slightly, "Thank you for your kindness, Grandpa, but it's better this way. Chloe is exceptional, and I'm just a commoner now. I'm not worthy of her."

Maria walked over and scolded, "Larry, what do you mean by that? The whole family is practically begging you. Do you really think you're that great? If it weren't for everything you've done for the Lewis family, do you think you'd still be allowed through the door?"

"Mom, what are you saying?" Chloe's face turned serious, "Larry has finally come back. Can't you be a bit nicer?"

"Isn't it true?" Maria muttered, feeling a bit unsure as everyone stared at her, "Both elders are begging him, and he still doesn't get it."

"I'll just grab my things and go," Larry said, not paying much attention, and headed upstairs.

Chloe followed him.

Upstairs, in a room, Larry opened a cabinet and took out the second volume of the medical book.

Chloe walked in and said, "Larry, if you want to leave, I won't stop you."

Larry nodded slightly, appreciating Chloe's rationality. He asked, "Have you read this medical book?"

"Yes," Chloe nodded, not hiding anything, "I've been bored at home, so I did flip through it. It's written in ancient text, from a thousand years ago, detailing some acupuncture techniques. I don't understand much, but the meditation method is quite good. It helps calm the mind and think clearly."

Larry was slightly surprised. He hadn't expected Chloe to understand the ancient text in the medical book and grasp the meditation method.

"Who taught you the ancient text? Besides you, who else has read it?" Larry stared at Chloe. Her transformation during his absence was too significant, and she seemed to know everything about him. He suspected she had been in contact with someone.

"Only I have read it. I deciphered the ancient text bit by bit from online resources," Chloe said softly.

In truth, Richard had visited the Lewis family and read the medical book. He had taught Chloe the ancient text and the meditation method, but he had warned her not to tell Larry, saying it would cause big trouble if Larry found out too soon. So, she didn't dare to say anything.

Larry didn't blame her much. After all, he hadn't warned Chloe not to read it before leaving. Besides, there wasn't much harm in her reading it. The book contained very little medical knowledge, mostly insights and applications of the Against Heaven 81 Needles technique. Even if Chloe knew, it wouldn't matter without the needles.

He took the book and turned to leave.

"Do you really have to go?" Chloe asked, trying to stop him. She hugged him from behind, resting her head on his back, and softly said, "Can't you give me a chance to make things right?"
