Chapter 263 Scared of Being Beaten by Me
Maria stormed over, hands on her hips, and snapped, "If you don't come clean today, don't even think about stepping foot in this house again."
Larry, looking all kinds of helpless, said, "Mom, seriously, there's nothing going on. The cops messed up. If there was something wrong, would they have let me out in one night?"
"Really?" Maria was still skeptical.
Last night's drama had really freaked her out.
Larry promised, "Sure. By the way, Medical Street is buzzing today. Mom, wanna go check it out?"
"Not in the mood."
Maria couldn't care less about the excitement.
Lately, the Lewis family had been through the wringer, and Sam was still stuck in the hospital.
"Come inside first." Chloe pulled Larry into the house and shut the door.
Larry plopped down on the sofa and looked at Scott sitting nearby. "Dad, you going?"
Scott did want to see what all the fuss was about.
He'd heard this year's medical conference was a big deal, with lots of famous doctors, even some from abroad.
He glanced at Maria, shook his head a bit, and said, "Nah, I'll pass."
Larry didn't push it. He turned to Chloe and said, "Babe, go change. We're heading to Medical Street."
"Okay."
Chloe headed back to the room.
Larry pulled out a cigarette and lit it, but before he could finish it, there was another knock on the door.
Maria said, "Larry, get the door."
Larry got up and opened it.
Seeing Victor at the door, he asked, "Grandpa, what brings you here?"
Victor walked in, grabbed Larry's hand, and with a grateful look said, "Larry, thank you so much this time."
Larry gave a small smile.
Maria walked over, looking confused. "Dad, what's going on? Why are you thanking him? What did this slacker do?"
Victor said excitedly, "The court just called. They've lifted the seal on the Lewis family villa and Everjoy Company. Basically, all the Lewis family businesses are unsealed, and the court's not chasing our debts anymore."
Maria looked puzzled, staring at Larry. "What does this have to do with Larry?"
Victor was stunned and asked, "Wasn't it Larry who sorted this out?"
"Really?" Maria looked at Larry.
Larry scratched his nose and nodded. "Yeah, I handled it."
Harry, Jack, and the younger Lewis family members had also shown up.
None of them believed Larry had fixed the problem.
If Larry really had that kind of pull, the Carter family and the Martinez family wouldn't have messed with the Lewis family before.
Oscar sneered at Larry. "Larry, quit the nonsense. If you fixed it, then tell us how."
Everyone's eyes were on Larry.
Larry grinned. "I beat up the guys from the Carter and Martinez families. They got scared. I told them if they didn't back off, I'd take them down."
As Larry spoke, he mimed a few moves.
"Just a few hits, and their bodyguards were down."
Oscar looked at Larry with disdain.
He didn't buy Larry's story at all.
The Carter and Martinez families were big deals. No way they'd be scared of Larry.
No one believed Larry's story.
Victor had always thought Larry handled it because Larry had sorted out their accommodation and dealt with Tiberius's issue. But now, thinking it over, maybe it wasn't Larry.
Chloe, now changed, walked out of the room and asked, "Why's everyone here?"
Larry smiled and said, "They're not coming after the Lewis family anymore. The court's unsealed our businesses and unfrozen our accounts. The Lewis family is out of the woods."
"Really?" Chloe's face lit up with joy. "What's going on? How did this get sorted out overnight?"
Maria jumped in, "Chloe, where did you and Larry go last night, and what did you do?"
Chloe hesitated.
Seeing her expression, Maria knew something was up and immediately snapped, "Spit it out."
Chloe didn't dare to hide anything.
She recounted the dinner from the previous night.
But after the folks from the Carter and Martinez families showed up, she was taken away by Helen, so she didn't know what happened afterward.
Hearing this, everyone's eyes turned to Larry.
Could it be that, as Larry said, they were scared of him?
Seeing the puzzled looks on everyone's faces, Larry felt helpless. He said they were scared of him, but the Lewis family didn't believe it.
"Alright, I'll tell you. Actually, it was Xerxes who sorted this out."
"Xerxes?"
Everyone was puzzled. Who was that?
Victor suddenly exclaimed, "Xerxes? You mean Xerxes from the North?"
"Yep," Larry said. "That's him."
Victor looked at Larry and asked, "Xerxes is a big deal in the North, and the Vale family's influence is massive. Even the Five-State Business Alliance combined might not compare. Why would he help us?"
Larry looked proud. "Naturally, it's because of me. Yesterday at noon, I saved Xerxes' daughter, Esmeralda. Grateful, Xerxes helped the Lewis family."
Everyone suddenly got it.
Victor sighed deeply and said, "No matter what, we got through this crisis thanks to you. From now on, you are the Lewis family's son-in-law. If anyone dares to mention divorce again, I'll kick them out of the family."
"Grandpa, we fell into danger because of Chloe. Now Larry saved Esmeralda, and Xerxes helped the Lewis family. Why should we thank Larry?"
"Exactly."
"If it weren't for their family, we wouldn't have suffered so much."
The Lewis family members were grumbling.
Larry just smiled faintly.
Honestly, he didn't need anyone's approval, nor did he care about others' opinions.
As long as Chloe recognized him, that was enough.
Larry didn't bother to say anything more to the Lewis family. After all the suffering, they were still like this.
"Honey, let's go to Medical Street and check out the excitement. This time at the medical conference, I will definitely become the world's top doctor."
"Okay." Chloe nodded.
Larry took Chloe and left.
They drove to Medical Street.
On the way to Medical Street, Chloe asked, "Honey, Xerxes really helped us?"
"Yep."
"Then what exactly happened last night? Why did the police come to arrest you?"
Larry explained, "Because I beat up Robert, Fabian, and others. These guys are from big families, so they called the cops. That's why the police came to arrest me. But with Xerxes' help, these families didn't pursue it."
"Then what about the sword you mentioned yesterday?"
Larry felt it was a hassle.
How should he explain it to Chloe?
Ordinary people wouldn't know about the Execution Sword.
"Actually, it's nothing special, just an ordinary sword forged by Frank."
Larry didn't know how to explain, so he just brushed it off.
Chloe was puzzled but didn't ask further. As long as Larry was safe, nothing else mattered.
Larry was driving.
Suddenly, he sensed something was off.
"Honey, hold on tight."
Chloe was about to ask why when the car suddenly accelerated, causing her to almost fall over.
After Larry sped up, a dozen cars behind them quickly accelerated as well.
In one of the cars behind, the sunroof opened, and a man in a black jacket and black hat stood up, holding a rocket launcher on his shoulder.
Larry saw this through the rearview mirror.
He couldn't help but curse, "Damn it, this is downtown. These people are really bold."
