Chapter 290: The First Round of Competition
After Chloe stepped off the stage, Melanie continued, "Second place goes to Lucy from Pillar Pharmacy. Lucy is Dr. Rogers' granddaughter. For the past twenty years, Dr. Rogers has defeated his opponents in every medical conference, and Lucy is equally impressive."
Cosimo said, "Let's welcome Lucy."
Lucy walked onto the stage.
She wore a white dress, looking like a graceful swan.
She took the microphone.
Melanie smiled and asked, "Lucy, this is your first time participating in the medical conference, and you’ve already secured second place in the preliminaries. How do you feel right now?"
Lucy humbly replied, "It's my dream to exchange knowledge with so many veterans in the medical field. I believe that regardless of the outcome, I will gain a lot from this experience."
"Thank you, Lucy," Cosimo said with a smile, continuing, "Third place goes to Cormac from Silvermoon Apothecary."
"Fourth place, Lachlan from Silvermoon Apothecary."
"Fifth place, Octavius from WellSpring Pharmacy."
"Sixth place, Percival from TranquilRx Pharmacy."
"Seventh place, Pillar Pharmacy."
The two hosts read out the names one by one.
Those called walked onto the stage one by one.
Soon, a hundred people gathered together.
While everyone was walking onto the stage, Sarah approached Chloe with a smile and said, "Chloe, Larry wants to see you."
Chloe looked at Sarah and frowned, "Larry, Black Dragon? Isn't he dead?"
Chloe had been to The Serpent Group and knew Sarah.
Seeing Sarah looking for her, she couldn't help but feel puzzled.
Sarah smiled and said, "Come with me."
Chloe was puzzled but still followed Sarah out of the hall.
Outside the auditorium, Larry was leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette.
Sarah brought Chloe over.
"Larry, Chloe is here."
Larry waved his hand slightly and said, "Okay, I got it. You can go now."
"Alright."
Sarah turned and left.
Chloe was shocked to see Larry.
Black Dragon Larry wasn't dead? How could he still be alive?
She thought she was seeing things and rubbed her eyes hard, but it was indeed Black Dragon Larry.
Larry smiled faintly, "Chloe, long time no see."
"You're still alive?" Chloe was surprised.
Larry touched his nose and smiled, "What, do you wish I were dead?"
"No, no," Chloe hurriedly explained.
She was very nervous at this moment.
Chloe's heart was pounding as if it was about to jump out.
Larry took out a wireless earpiece and handed it to Chloe.
Chloe took it, looking puzzled, and asked, "What is this?"
Larry said, "A wireless earpiece. Wear it so you can talk to me. You wear it during the medical competition, and I'll help you from the shadows."
Chloe looked puzzled.
Help her from the shadows?
"Chloe, please come to the stage."
A voice echoed through the auditorium.
Larry called out, "They're calling you. Go ahead."
"But—"
Larry waved his hand slightly and said, "Don't worry, it's fine."
"Okay."
Chloe put on the earpiece and quickly returned to the hall, walking onto the stage under the gaze of many people.
The top one hundred contestants all gathered on the stage.
The competition rules had already been set.
Melanie and Cosimo announced the competition rules.
The rules for this medical conference were simple: one-on-one matches, with the fifty winners advancing to the winners' group.
The winners' group would be temporarily safe.
The fifty losers would be randomly matched again for another round of competition.
The winners of this round would advance.
They would then be randomly matched with the winners' group for another round of competition.
After announcing the rules, a large LCD screen appeared in the hall, displaying the names of the one hundred contestants, which were then randomly shuffled and matched.
The results were quickly displayed.
"Now, Chloe and Tavish Crawford, please step forward."
Chloe's opponent was a doctor ranked relatively low, but anyone who made it to the top one hundred was no weakling; they were all seasoned doctors with decades of experience.
Chloe walked to the center of the stage.
Her opponent soon appeared.
He was an elderly man who looked to be in his eighties, accompanied by a young female assistant.
Cosimo looked at Chloe and asked, "Chloe, where is your assistant?"
Before she could answer, Tavish snorted, "Competing with someone like her, even if I win, I won't be happy."
Chloe was very nervous.
At this moment, a man walked onto the stage.
It was Larry.
Seeing Larry walk onto the stage, Chloe breathed a sigh of relief.
Larry walked over and said, "I am her assistant."
Melanie glanced at Larry and said nothing more, directly announcing, "According to the rules, we will draw lots to decide the competition content."
Soon, a staff member pushed a box onto the stage.
Cosimo said, "This box contains many sealed envelopes with numbers inside. Each number corresponds to a competition content. What you draw is all up to luck. Now, please have the staff draw an envelope from the box and hand it to me."
The staff member began to draw, reaching into the box.
The box was transparent.
As soon as his hand went in, a gust of wind from the bottom of the box scattered the envelopes, and the staff member randomly grabbed one and handed it to Cosimo.
Cosimo opened it, displayed it to the camera, and then announced, "Number 58. Let's see what the content of question 58 is."
The LCD screen on the stage displayed the content of question 58.
"Identify herbs. Out of over one hundred thousand types of herbs, one hundred will be randomly selected. Both contestants will be blindfolded and must identify the herbs by smell. The competition is limited to ten minutes. Whoever identifies the most herbs within ten minutes wins."
Hearing the competition content announced by the computer, the audience murmured in excitement.
This competition was very interesting.
Blindfolded and relying on smell to identify one hundred types of herbs, even doctors with decades of experience couldn't identify them all.
With the topic announced, the staff quickly began preparations.
Soon, the herbs were ready.
"In the first round of the competition, Chloe from Global Nexus Group will face Tavish from the Lirena Group."
As Melanie's voice echoed, Chloe became nervous, her palms sweating.
Larry stood beside her and whispered, "Don't worry, it's okay. I'm here, and I'll make sure you win the competition."
"Are both doctors ready?"
Tavish glanced at Chloe with disdain, "Even if I win against Chloe, I won't be happy. For this competition, I won't participate personally. I'll let my assistant compete with her instead, so no one can say I'm bullying her."
Before Chloe could speak, Larry stepped forward and said, "In that case, Chloe won't compete either. I'll take her place as her assistant."
