Chapter 369 The Organization of Gu
Sue's voice trembled with panic, "Larry, without you, I'm toast."
Sue used to run with a tomb-raiding crew.
She and her partners had hit Victor Veil's Tomb.
Now, word about Victor Veil's Tomb was spreading like wildfire among the gangs. She used to be the CEO of the Epoch Group, and nobody dared to mess with her. But now that the Epoch Group had crumbled, if she went back to Sunset City, the gangs would definitely come after her.
Going back meant certain death.
Larry, looking pale and weak, said, "In my condition, I can't protect you anymore. Here's an idea: head to Sunset City and find Free. Ask her to set you up with a temporary job. Free's one of the Five Great Marshals, and if she gives you something to do, nobody will dare mess with you."
Sue didn't argue further since Larry had spoken.
Larry then turned to Abigail, "You should head back to Sunset City, too."
"No way."
Abigail shot back.
Just then, Chloe walked in with some food. She overheard the conversation as she entered.
She paused for a moment, then walked over, "Larry, I brought you some food."
She opened the container and sat beside him, ready to feed him.
"I can do it myself."
Larry took the utensils from Chloe's hand and, under the watchful eyes of everyone, slowly began to eat.
After finishing his meal, he looked at Chloe and said, "You should go back to Sunset City, too. And you, Helen, you both should go together."
Chloe instantly became anxious and hurriedly asked, "What about you?"
Larry waved his hand slightly and said, "Don't worry about me. I have some important things to take care of."
Larry had made it clear they needed to leave.
He only kept the Eight Heavenly Dragons with him, sending everyone else away.
Though he looked sickly, his attitude was firm.
No one knew what Larry planned to do next, but they all felt he was definitely up to something big. They didn't stay to interfere and bought tickets back to Sunset City.
In the hospital room, only eight people remained.
Lyra asked, "Larry, what's your next move?"
"No rush."
Larry waved his hand slightly and said, "You all should get some rest. I'll find you once everything's set."
"But, in your condition?"
Lyra's face showed concern.
Larry stood up, got out of bed, and tried to walk a few steps. Though it was difficult, he managed. He said softly, "It's fine, you all go."
Hearing this, the group finally left.
Larry returned to his bed to rest.
He lit a cigarette.
Smoke filled the hospital room.
Unknowingly, he fell asleep.
He didn't know how long he had slept when he groggily opened his eyes and saw a stunningly beautiful woman with a sexy figure sitting by his bed, her big, lively eyes staring at him.
"What are you doing here again?"
Larry turned over and sat up, looking at Abigail sitting by the bed. He frowned and said, "Didn't I tell you to go back? I don't need you here."
Abigail rolled her eyes and scolded, "Stop dreaming. The Epoch Group has collapsed. I have no place to work if I go back. I think staying in Aurora Citadel is a better option."
Hearing this, Larry didn't say much more.
He lay back down, resting against the bed.
He was waiting, waiting for Shadow to arrive.
He believed Shadow would definitely come to find him.
Time ticked by.
Soon it was midnight.
Abigail had fallen asleep in the hospital room.
At this moment, Larry sensed footsteps.
The footsteps were very faint.
Although he was weak, his senses were still sharp.
He turned over, got up, and quietly walked out of the hospital room, looking around before heading towards the hallway.
As Larry reached the hallway, he saw a man in a black coat and a baseball cap, his face obscured.
The man leaned against the wall, watching Larry approach.
"King sent me to check on you. How's your health?" The man's voice was hoarse.
Larry stood nearby, feeling weak. He leaned against the wall, trying to steady himself. His face was serious as he said weakly, "My condition is bad. I've been poisoned with Gu. My whole body is weak, and my muscles are slowly wasting away. Eventually, I won't be able to move at all and will be bedridden, waiting to die."
"Gu?" Shadow sounded surprised. "How is this possible? Weren't those dark arts eradicated a century ago? How can there still be Gu?"
Larry looked at Shadow more closely. It seemed Shadow knew a lot about Gu. And it seemed that a century ago, many people used Gu.
"You seem to know a lot?" Larry asked.
Shadow shook his head slightly and said, "Not really, just heard about it from my master."
Larry became interested, "I'd like to hear more."
Shadow explained, "A century ago, there was a group of people living in the mountains, relying on raising Gu worms for a living. They were known as Gu raisers. It was a village, a clan, and a sect, called the Gu organization."
"A century ago, during the most chaotic time in the Summer Nation, when the nation was being founded, my master said that the Gu raisers wreaked havoc, intending to use Gu to control the world. They were eventually eradicated and disappeared for a hundred years. I didn't expect there to still be Gu raisers now."
Hearing this, Larry understood. He wasn't interested in the history; he only cared about whether the Gu in his body could be cured.
"Since you know about Gu, do you know how to cure it?" Larry asked.
Shadow shook his head and said, "I don't know. Only the person who placed the Gu can cure it."
Larry was silent for a while before saying, "I know someone who can cure the Gu in my body. I need to get things done, but I must detoxify first. Otherwise, in my current state, I won't last long, let alone get anything done."
"Who?" Shadow asked.
"Alden."
Shadow frowned. "Larry, do you know what you're saying? He's a ruthless killer who created the Shadow Syndicate and trained many assassins. It took hundreds of martial arts experts to capture him. You were part of that battle. You should know his strength. If you release him, the consequences will be severe."
"I know," Larry said softly. "He could tell at a glance that I was poisoned with Gu. He said he could cure it, and I believe that once I recover, he won't be a match for me."
"That's not necessarily true. You both are top martial artists. In a fight, it would be a close call. A few years ago, if other experts hadn't worn him down first, you wouldn't have stood a chance against him."
"I'm not the same Larry from a few years ago," Larry said confidently.
Hearing this, Shadow was silent. After a while, he asked, "What do you need me to do?"
"I need to break him out of prison. I need you to create an opportunity for me. After the breakout, I need you to use your connections to get Alden out of Aurora Citadel and to get the people involved in the breakout out of Aurora Citadel."
Larry knew Shadow had the capability. Even though the prison was guarded by the Legion of Flame Surge, he could manage it. Because he was the King's man. King's personal bodyguard. If he was willing, it meant King was willing, making everything simpler.
"Alright, I'll inform King and get back to you," Shadow said, lowering his hat and then turning to leave.
Larry also walked back to the hospital room.
"Where did you go?" As soon as he entered the room, he saw Abigail standing at the door, looking at him with a strange expression.
