Chapter 144 Unrecovered Payments
Chloe looked at Justin with a puzzled expression and asked, "Mr. Carter, did Mr. Bennett approach you in private?"
Justin was taken aback and glanced at Chloe, thinking, 'Does Chloe not know about Larry's identity? Who is this Mr. Bennett she mentioned? Is it Larry?'
After a slight pause, he nodded. "I guess so."
Chloe took a deep breath. 'So it is Mr. Bennett who has secretly intervened. What have I done to deserve his help?'
"Chloe, I'm sorry, I'm not worthy of you. I swear, I won't bother you again in the future." After saying this, Justin glanced at Larry. He saw that Larry was still engrossed in the meal, so he left without another word.
The Lewis family was stunned.
It wasn't until Justin left that Maria reacted, "It's Mr. Bennett again. Who exactly is this mysterious Mr. Bennett that even Justin is so wary of him?"
She looked at Chloe and asked in confusion, "Chloe, who exactly is this mysterious Mr. Bennett?"
"No one, let's eat." Chloe hadn't eaten and was a bit hungry. Seeing the table full of delicious dishes, she felt her appetite return.
After eating, the family went home together.
Now that Mr. Carter was out the picture, Maria once again became interested in the myterious Mr. Bennett. Once home, she pulled Chloe aside to ask about him.
Chloe didn't say anything. She didn't feel like explaining to her family and went straight to her room.
Inside the room, Larry had already laid out a mat and was lying on the floor. When Chloe walked in, he promptly stood up with a smile. "Hey, honey."
"Hey." Chloe responded, sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at Larry. "Larry, you can't just stay at home all the time. You should find a job. The salary doesn't matter, as long as you have a job and don't waste time. I don't want people gossiping anymore."
For ten years, Chloe had had enough. She had endured all kinds of gossip. Now, because of Larry, she still felt humiliated in front of others. She thought she didn't care, that she could earn money to support Larry. But when she actually heard all the gossip, it hurt her deeply. She really wanted him to be more ambitious to avoid gossip.
"Get a job?" Larry frowned. He had no interest in getting a job as he had some rare free time, but he didn't want to embarrass Chloe any further.
"I'll look for a job tomorrow." Larry casually brushed it off. As for the job, he could just get a position at the Epoch Group or the Serpent Group.
Chloe could tell that Larry was just brushing her off. She sighed helplessly and said, "Let's sleep. I have to go to the Everlasting Group early tomorrow. Don't sleep on the floor anymore, sleep on the bed."
Today, Chloe had been in a daze all day. She had thought a lot and realized that she also had some issues. If her family criticized Larry less and looked down on him less, if she had slept with Larry earlier, he wouldn't have doubted her and secretly followed her.
"Honey, are you serious?" Larry looked at Chloe.
Chloe nodded. "Yes."
Although she now felt a bit disdainful of Larry, he was still her husband. Moreover, it was his money that allowed her to acquire the Everlasting Group. He had helped her so much, yet she made him sleep on the floor. Anyone would feel bad about that.
Larry put away the mat and walked towards the bed. Chloe moved over slightly to make room for him.
Larry lay down beside Chloe, and he could smell the enchanting fragrance from her body, which deeply stimulated his nerves, making him a bit excited. She turned over.
Chloe had her back to Larry. She hadn't taken off her dress, but it was a spaghetti strap dress, and her fair back was fully exposed to his view.
Larry tentatively asked, "Honey, do you think I'm not good enough for you?"
Chloe turned over, and their eyes met. "Don't talk nonsense, I don't look down on you," she said.
Larry continued, "In your heart, only someone like the mysterious Mr. Bennett is worthy of you, right?"
Feeling seen through, Chloe became a bit flustered. She hurriedly explained, "That's not true. Since I married you, I'm your wife. As long as you don't betray me, I will never divorce you."
Chloe's words moved Larry deeply. He couldn't help but lean in to kiss Chloe. Their lips met. Chloe struggled slightly, but Larry didn't let go.
Within a few seconds, Chloe blushed and scolded, "Are you crazy?"
Larry licked his lips and smiled. "Honey, you're the best."
Chloe shyly turned away. Larry didn't do anything else.
Despite being married for so long, this was the first time they slept together. But that night, nothing happened; they just slept next to each other.
The next day, Chloe woke up early, changed into her business attire, and left for the Everlasting Group without even having breakfast.
Larry also left the house. Last night, Chloe had asked him to find a job. He felt it was necessary to find a job, even if he didn't actually go to work. At least having a title would prevent people from saying he was living off the Lewis family, and Chloe wouldn't feel embarrassed in front of others.
'But what title should I take? Vice President of the Epoch Group? Or Vice President of the Serpent Group?' Larry hesitated.

She picked up the phone and called the current vice president, Drake. "Come to my office."
Soon, Drake arrived. "You called, Mdm. Lewis?"
Chloe looked at the accounts and frowned. "Drake, why does the Everlasting Group have four million dollars in unpaid receivables?"
Hearing this, Drake looked troubled and said, "Mdm. Lewis, the debt is from CloudPharma. In the first half of the year, all our orders were from CloudPharma. However, after receiving the goods, CloudPharma claimed there were issues with our processed drugs and refused to pay the balance. We've approached many departments, but CloudPharma has a strong background."
Hearing this, Chloe frowned.
Drake continued, "We hired a lawyer and sued CloudPharma, but we lost the case. Since then, our factory has frequently been attacked by unknown individuals. Because of this, no big companies have given us orders. Coupled with the four million dollars in unpaid receivables, the Everlasting Group's cash flow broke down, leading to the bankruptcy crisis."
Chloe said, "Alright, I understand. You can go now."
"Okay." Drake left the office.
Chloe held a pen, twirling it between her fingers.
The four million dollars was hard-earned by the Everlasting Group, and now CloudPharma was refusing to pay. This money had to be recovered.
At this moment, Chloe thought of the mysterious Mr. Bennett. If he stepped in, getting the money back wouldn't be difficult. Thinking of him, she shook her head slightly.
"Chloe, don't rely on others for everything. Even though you saved him, he's already helped you a lot recently. You can't keep troubling him," Chloe chided herself.
Chloe decided to personally visit CloudPharma and meet with their person in charge to recover the four million dollars receivables.
