Chapter 40 Change in Attitude

Larry never thought he would one day end up being someone else's driver. But he felt quite satisfied with what Maria had done.

He drove into the military district again.

After Larry took several trips back and forth, the Lewis family members were visibly upset, their faces filled with anger.

Meanwhile, other wealthy individuals were watching the spectacle with amusement.

Howard was also helpless.

He thought, 'Black Dragon, acting like someone who is green and inexperienced, would be deeply ashamed if his actions were reported back to Aurora Citadel.'

However, Larry thought it was great!

Life was truly carefree and leisurely now.

As he drove out again and was about to turn back in, Chloe timely reminded him, "Larry, that's enough. You're delaying their invitation checks."

Larry turned to Maria and asked with a smile, "Mom, are you happy now?"

"Very happy, I feel great," Maria said, grinning from ear to ear.

She was extremely satisfied.

Today was the most dignified day she had experienced in decades.

All the wealthy people from the five districts were watching her, and she felt immensely proud.

Larry said, "If it's okay, I'll return the car now. It's not mine."

At his words, Maria's smile froze, but thinking about how Larry borrowing the car had brought her respect, she didn't mock him and said, "Alright, go ahead."

"Okay." Larry drove away under the watchful eyes of the Lewis family and the wealthy individuals from the five districts.

He took Chloe and Maria home, then drove to the Imperial Residence, parked the car, and took a cab back.

Before he even entered, he heard Maria's laughter from inside.

She said, "It's hilarious, you should have seen the faces of the Lewis family members, they looked so angry, it was too funny."

"Mom, Larry was being foolish, and you're following suit?" Sam growled, "You shouldn't have said that to Grandpa. It was hard enough to get some shares, and now Grandpa is definitely angry and will take back the remaining shares."

"It doesn't matter if he does," Maria said indifferently, "Victor never liked Scott, thought he was useless, and didn't respect him. Besides, with Harry's family badmouthing us to Victor, it's only a matter of time before the shares are taken back."

Maria was well aware of what kind of people they were.

"Mom, seriously, that's money!" Mindy said with dissatisfaction.

It was almost the end of the month and time for the family dividends. Even if it was only five percent, it was still a considerable amount. Now, it was all gone.

The door was open, and Larry walked in.

"Larry, you're back. Come, sit." Maria greeted him warmly.

She had come to terms with it; no shares were no shares. She still had some money and planned to open a clinic for Larry. With Larry's medical skills, he could make money.

Sam and Mindy had stern faces, their eyes burning with rage.

"Larry." Chloe also stood up, slightly moving to make room for him.

"Larry, I've thought it over. I still have over thirty thousand dollars, which Chloe gave me last time. We'll open a clinic and make a living on our own. It's better than being looked down upon by the Lewis family. And you... Scott, you shouldn't work at the Everjoy Company anymore. I don't believe that without the Lewis family, our family will starve," Maria said.

Larry glanced at her.

He used to look down on Maria, thinking she was materialistic and only cared about money.

Now, it seemed she was forced by her circumstances.

Larry nodded and said, "Opening a clinic is fine, but let's wait a bit. I heard the Trade Center is about to open for business. We can open the clinic in the new Trade Center."

Maria raised her hand and slapped Larry on the head, scolding, "Do you know what kind of place that is? It's a high-end venue, meant to become the most prosperous financial center in the country. Dreaming of opening a clinic there? Forget about anything else, just the entry fee is astronomical."

Larry innocently rubbed his head.

He thought, 'Entry fee?

'I am about to buy the entire Trade Center. If I want to open a clinic, no one will dare ask me for an entry fee.' But he wisely kept quiet.

If he told the Lewis family he was going to buy the Trade Center, they would definitely think he was crazy.

Hearing that Maria was going to use the money to open a clinic for Larry, Sam panicked and quickly said, "Mom, you can't do that. Investing money in this loser is just wasting it. You promised to give me money to buy a car, you can't go back on your word."

"Mom, our wedding anniversary is coming up, and you promised me a dress."

"Enough," Maria scolded, "If there's no money, don't pretend to be rich. No new car, no new dress, and this money was originally Chloe's."

"Mom, you're biased. I'm your son, he's just your son-in-law."

Maria slapped Sam on the head and scolded, "Oscar is already a department manager at the Everjoy Company. Adam Lewis from Jack's family didn't work at the Everjoy Company. He started his own factory and makes millions a year. And what about you?, Incompetent!"

Sam didn't dare say a word. He just glared at Larry with resentment in his eyes.

Chloe smiled silently.

Seeing her mother acknowledge Larry made her very happy.

Mindy gently pulled Sam, signaling him to calm down, then apologized, "Mom, we were wrong. No new car, no new dress."

At that moment, there was a knock on the door.

Maria, sitting on the couch, looked at Sam and scolded, "What are you standing there for? Go open the door!"

Sam immediately stood up and went to open the door.

Several people were standing at the door.

It was none other than Victor, Harry, Jack, and some important members of the Lewis family.

They were holding gifts.

Harry smiled and asked, "Sam, is it you? Are your parents home?"

Inside, Maria's voice came. "Sam, who is it?"

Sam turned back and replied, "Mom, it's Grandpa, Harry, Jack, and the others."

Hearing this, Maria immediately got up and walked over.

Seeing the people at the door, she said sarcastically, "What a rare sight. I've owned this house for many years, and this is the first time you've come. My little home can't accommodate such big shots like you."

Then she pointed outside. "Get out."

"Maria, don't be like this. Dad came specifically to apologize," Harry said quickly, "Look, Dad is so old, and he came personally to apologize. You can't drive us away. If word gets out, people will say you're unfilial."

"Let them say it. Over the years, we've been criticized many times," Maria said arrogantly, "What? Now that you know Larry has connections, are you here to make amends? You'll be disappointed. He's just a soldier, a small one at that. Even though his superior is powerful and knows the general of the Western Territory, he can only borrow a car once, not a second time."

Maria was well aware of Victor's intentions to come personally.

Even though Victor was an elder, she didn't give him any respect.
