Chapter 360 A Major Incident Occurred
Black Dragon Mansion.
Larry was down to just his boxers, his body covered in silver needles. He was trying to save himself, hoping the needles could force the Gu parasites out of his system. But after hours of effort, it was useless. The Gu inside him was tiny, like a bone-eating maggot, impossible to expel. If the Gu grew, it would be the end for him.
Alfonso had given him a pill containing countless Gu eggs. Once ingested, the pill would dissolve in his stomach, and the eggs would hatch instantly, growing into Gu parasites that would travel through his bloodstream, absorbing his nutrients. Larry felt weak, likely because the Gu were draining his energy. He removed the needles and sat on the couch, deep in thought. Unfortunately, he didn't understand Gu parasites. Otherwise, it wouldn't be so hard to find a cure.
Meanwhile...
Frank had locked down all of Southwild, sealing off the 140 cities that had recently joined Summer Nation. No one was allowed in or out. Fighter jets roared overhead. Armored vehicles and tanks rolled down the streets. Heavily armed soldiers guarded every major intersection.
"What's going on?"
"Looks like the Black Dragon Army is fully mobilized. Are we going to war?"
"Please, no! We just joined Summer Nation, and I was hoping to make some money and get married. If there's a war, it'll be us civilians who suffer."
The residents of the 140 cities were in despair at the sight. With the area fully locked down, Frank personally led the troops in a thorough search near Heavenly Mountain Pass. Since the incident had just occurred, the enemy couldn't have gone far. They had to be near Heavenly Mountain.
A day passed quickly. Frank's search turned up nothing but a few of Alfonso's henchmen. Alfonso seemed to have vanished into thin air.
At 9 PM, Frank rushed to Black Dragon Mansion.
"Dragon King, Alfonso seems to have disappeared. We've locked down the area and conducted a thorough search, but we haven't found him. We only caught a few of his men, and they don't know where he is."
Larry sat on the couch, frowning. Suddenly, hurried footsteps approached. Idris rushed in, his face anxious.
"Dragon King, something's wrong!"
Larry looked up, "What's happened? Why are you so panicked?"
Idris was sweating profusely. He wiped his forehead and said, "Dragon King, you've been reported."
Larry's brow furrowed. Frank looked puzzled, "Reported?"
"Yes," Idris said, "It's all over the internet now."
"What exactly happened?" Larry asked.
Idris explained, "This afternoon, someone filed a report against you, Dragon King. They accused you of amassing a fortune while serving as Black Dragon. The report details every bribe you took, including the billions Frank demanded from wealthy individuals when he returned to Southwild, and how you used your position to forcibly buy NextGen City in Sunset City. Everything is documented."
Idris was drenched in sweat.
"Initially, the report was sent directly to the commission, but it was rejected and kept private. Then, more people sent the same report, and it spread online."
"People are calling you a corrupt official, saying you amassed billions during your tenure."
"They're also saying that during the Heavenly Mountain Pass incident, the enemy paid over 90 billion dollars in compensation, but only 10 billion made it to the treasury. The rest supposedly went straight into your pocket."
"The internet is blowing up with these accusations."
Larry's face grew serious.
Frank quickly pulled out his phone, opened the browser, and searched for Black Dragon. Sure enough, there were countless news articles, all exposés from verified sources. Many Twitter influencers had shared the report against Larry, detailing every bribe he had taken, his actions in Sunset City, and every person he had killed.
Seeing this, Frank's expression turned grave. "Dragon King, this is really bad. Even if the higher-ups like you, this report is gonna stir up public anger. The government will have to act to calm people down. They'll definitely take action against you."
Larry took a deep breath. He knew someone was targeting him. From the battle at Heavenly Mountain Pass against the 28 nations' experts to now, it was all Alistair's doing. Even though Alistair was defeated, he still hadn't given up on bringing Larry down.
Larry didn't care much about money. At his level, many people offered him money, and he inevitably accepted some. The government usually turned a blind eye. But he had taken too much, especially the forced purchase of NextGen City and pocketing the enemy's compensation. The higher-ups were aware of these actions, but they hadn't intervened. Now that it was exposed, they couldn't ignore it.
Idris wiped his sweat and asked, "Dragon King, what do we do now? The report is detailed and credible. If the government investigates, they'll easily find evidence. This much money... even a hundred executions wouldn't be enough."
"Dragon King?" Frank looked at the contemplative Larry.
Larry waved his hand weakly, "Alright, leave me alone for now. I need to think."
"Yes."
The two men nodded and left.
Larry slumped on the couch. He had served in the military for ten years, rising from a lowly soldier to his current position. He believed he had never exploited the common people or killed an innocent person. He had only eliminated those who deserved it, those who had escaped legal punishment. He had the authority to enforce the law. But his financial misconduct... The country was extremely sensitive to such matters. Anyone involved in corruption, once exposed, would become a public enemy.
Larry took out his phone and opened the web browser. The internet was flooded with reports about him. Everyone was condemning him. He had gone from hero to villain. Many netizens were demanding a thorough investigation, insisting that if the allegations were true, he must be punished.
Seeing the news and the public outrage, Larry rubbed his temples. "This is troublesome."
His physical condition was still unresolved, and now this scandal had erupted. With the issue now public, the government would have to act to quell the anger. Demotion would be the least of his worries. If things got worse, he could face prison or even execution. The country couldn't afford to anger the entire population for one person. The people's voice was the foundation of the nation.
