Chapter 159 Truly the Same Character
Kian was also the only person in the Martin family involved in business. His assets were several times more than the Lewis family's.
Cassian was Kian's only son. After graduating from college, he honed his skills in the family company. A few years had passed, and he was now the general manager of the company. In a few more years, he would become the chairman.
Kian's family was also the object of praise among the Martin family. Because Kian's family were very generous, whenever someone from the Martin family asked to borrow money, they would lend it directly and never asked for it back. Over the years, Kian's family had lent out over ten million dollars.
Kian walked over, looked at the red limited edition Ferrari parked at the door, nodded, and commented, "Not bad. Priced at over four hundred thousand dollars, it's considered a top luxury car. Sam, is it yours?"
"Of course." Sam raised his head. He knew Cassian's family was wealthy. He was often ridiculed when he used to visit Solene's house, especially by Cassian, who would always look down on him. Now, he finally had a chance to show off in front of Cassian.
"Made some money?" Cassian looked at Sam.
"Yeah, don't you know? My family now holds 50% of the Lewis family's shares, and Chloe spent ten million dollars to acquire a company and became a boss. We also have a mansion worth several million of dollars in Sunset City Scenic Villas."
Cassian was slightly surprised. He knew the situation of the Lewis family, but had no idea how they suddenly prospered.
Cassian then saw Chloe and was stunned by her beauty. "Is that you, Chloe?"
Chloe nodded and called out, "Hi, Cassian."
Larry also followed. "Hi, Cassian."
Cassian's gaze lingered on Larry, scanning him from top to bottom, then looked at Chloe again. From Chloe's attire, he could tell at a glance that it was expensive. But Larry looked too ordinary.
"Hi." He didn't say much, just nodded and responded softly.
After Cassian arrived, the Martins started to praise Cassian. Everyone sat on the benches, chatting.
Larry sat alone, smoking. To be honest, he was very disgusted with the Martin family, because, as Chloe said, they were all like Maria.
The Martin family's conversation topics were all about money and power.
Magnus also praised his daughter, looking at everyone and boasting, "When it comes down to it, Helen is the impressive one. She now works at the Epoch Group in Sunset City and is a key person there. Helen said her monthly salary is thirty thousand dollars."
Upon hearing this, many people focused on Helen. Even Cassian was surprised and asked, "Helen, really? How did you end up working at the Epoch Group, the one in Sunset City that bought the entire NextGen City?"
Helen glanced at Larry not far away. She was able to work at the Epoch Group all because of Larry.
Larry was the truly low-key big shot. Few people would have guessed that the son-in-law of the Lewis family, seen as a loser by outsiders, was actually the Supreme Commander Black Dragon of Southwild and the silent owner of the Epoch Group.
Helen, slightly lost in thought, nodded. "It was a coincidence, I was lucky to know Ms. Cox, the chairwoman of the Epoch Group, and that's how I became a department head at the Epoch Group."
Cassian exclaimed, "Helen, which department are you in charge of?"
Helen said, "I'm in charge of food and beverage recruitment."
Cassian hurriedly said, "Helen, here's the thing. My family also plans to propose cooperation with the Epoch Group in Sunset City, but right now the Epoch Group is only open to large corporations and hasn't opened up to smaller groups. Since you're a senior executive at the Epoch Group, can you help us get in early?"
Helen looked troubled. The company had strict rules against corruption and helping family members. If found out, the consequences would be severe. But it was hard for her to refuse a family request.
She glanced at Larry not far away, and seeing that he didn't say anything, she thought for a moment and nodded. "I can't decide that, but I'll talk to Ms. Cox when I get back."
"That's great," Cassian exclaimed excitedly, "Helen, you're really capable, working at the Epoch Group and being a department manager."
Magnus looked proud. After learning about Helen's current position, the family started praising Helen again.
Helen felt very helpless. She wanted to refuse her family's request, but Magnus readily agreed, "We're all family, Helen will definitely help with this small matter."
Helen gave Magnus a resentful look. He was always causing her trouble.
Although she was a department head now, in the Epoch Group, a department was like a small company. The Epoch Group had an independent HR department. Hiring for important positions in each department was submitted to the HR department and decided by Sue. Helen's authority was limited to arranging some ordinary staff.
"Helen, thank you so much." The family expressed their gratitude.
Cassian praised, "Helen, it's not easy to get into the Epoch Group. Even for the most ordinary staff, high education and work experience are required. You managed to snag a department head position. Although a monthly salary of thirty thousand dollars isn't much, this job is worth more than that. What you need to do now is expand your relationship with others and lay the foundation for the Martin family to develop in Pharma City."
Helen looked helpless, thinking, 'Why praise me instead of the real big shot?'
Larry sat quietly, listening without saying much.
Chloe, thinking that Larry didn't know anyone and felt awkward to join in the conversation, went over to sit and talk to him so that he wouldn't be bored.
After praising Helen, the crowd started discussing Larry, "Maria, Chloe is now a company chairwoman. Although it's not a big company, it was bought for ten million dollars, so she has money now. How could you let Larry be your son-in-law?"
"Yeah, I heard that Larry has no skills, just a retired soldier living off the Lewis family's money without working."
"What's the use of such a son-in-law?"
Everyone chimed in, belittling Larry.
Cassian had wanted to say something for a long time but felt embarrassed. Now that the elders spoke up, he also said, "Maria, I think Larry is not good enough for Chloe. I know many rich heirs and even people from the Martinez family. Do you know the Martinezes? They represent the Five-State Business Alliance in Neon City with assets worth billions of dollars. I'll invite my friends from the Martinez family over tomorrow to meet Chloe and see if they're interested. If they like each other, Chloe can divorce Larry."
Chloe knew that coming to Solene's house, Larry would definitely be ridiculed. She defended Larry, "Larry is not useless. He's just low-key and doesn't care to compete for anything."
Hearing this, Helen was stunned and guessed, 'Does Chloe know Larry's true identity?'
