Chapter 475 Cody's Strength
Cody left in a hurry and came back just as fast.
In about ten minutes, he was back.
Paisley asked, "Grandpa, how'd it go?"
Cody shook his head. "The bottom's really deep, and there's lava. I couldn't go any further. If someone fell from here, they'd be toast."
"I don't buy it," Larry said, shaking his head vigorously.
Ten years ago, Richard had survived a massive fire. How could he die so easily now?
Cody glanced at him. "Believe it or not, theoretically, falling from here means certain death unless he's reached some crazy level of power, beyond the seventh realm."
He then looked at Chloe and asked, "How'd you end up with Richard?"
Chloe didn't hold back and recounted how Richard had found her. However, she didn't mention the secret of the Artwork of Moonlit, only that Richard had brought her here to find the Fire Lotus to help Larry boost his Qi.
Cody listened, frowning deeply.
Paisley asked, "Grandpa, what's on your mind?"
Cody snapped out of it. "Nothing. Since it's safe now, let's head back. By the way, Chloe, do you know who kidnapped you?"
Chloe thought for a moment. "I don't know, but I heard him talking to Richard. Richard called him something... Grimshale the Gu, I think."
"Grimshale the Gu?" Cody's eyes narrowed.
Paisley asked, "Grandpa, have you heard of this name?"
Cody took a deep breath. "A hundred years ago, the leader of the Gu raising clan reached the seventh realm. He was nearly sixty back then. Now, a century later, even a seventh realm master couldn't live that long unless..."
"Unless he reached the eighth realm," Paisley interjected.
Cody nodded, looking serious. "Could the Gu raising clan be making a comeback? This is no small matter. I need to get back to Aurora Citadel immediately."
He turned to leave.
"Larry, let's go," Paisley said, gently pulling Larry, who was staring at the lava below.
"I..." Larry opened his mouth but choked up.
"Larry, did Richard really fall?" Chloe asked, not believing it.
"Let's go."
Larry didn't say much more, gritting his teeth as he pulled Chloe along, following Cody out of the cave.
They quickly made their way outside.
The temperature dropped significantly, and Larry felt much better.
Outside, Cody instructed, "If it really is Grimshale the Gu, he'll definitely come after you again. For your safety, you should come with me to Aurora Citadel."
Larry wanted to go to Aurora Citadel, but he had many things to do in Sunset City. Esmeralda was still there, and he needed to absorb the cold energy from her to enhance his Qi.
"I can't go right now. I need to return to Sunset City," he said.
Cody looked at him, then nodded. "Be careful."
With that, he leaped away and quickly disappeared from sight.
"Let's go too," Paisley said.
"Not yet," Chloe said. "Larry, Richard came here to find the Fire Lotus. He found it but didn't get a chance to pick it before Grimshale the Gu showed up."
"Forget it. Let's head back. Grimshale the Gu might still be lurking around. If we stay, he could come back. Now that Grandpa's gone, we can't handle him," Paisley reminded.
Larry remembered something and asked, "What realm is Cody in? Why did Grimshale the Gu run away when he saw him?"
Paisley shook her head. "I don't know. Grandpa never talks about his realm. He hasn't fought anyone in decades. But his realm should be at least the seventh, which is among the top in the Summer Nation."
Larry was shocked. "The seventh realm? That's intense."
Paisley nodded. "It's strong, but not the strongest. The Four Ancient Families have even stronger people. These were powerful a hundred years ago and have been in retreat since. Their strength is unfathomable now. The strongest in the Bennett family has likely reached the eighth realm, or at least the peak of the seventh. The other three families are similar."
"That strong? I heard from Shadow that in history, only the four retainers of Victor Veil reached the eighth realm, who are now the ancestors of the four families."
Paisley explained, "In the past century, Western technology has risen, and many Eastern secrets have been lost. Some ancient texts were destroyed, so not much is known outside. Shadow is just a guard; he wouldn't know the real secrets."
She reminded, "Larry, don't be fooled by the ordinary people in the Summer Nation. The true masters are terrifying. When they act, the destruction is immense."
Larry was very interested in these matters.
He couldn't help but ask, "You grew up in the Bennett family and know a lot. Do you know how many people in the Summer Nation have reached the eighth realm?"
Paisley shook her head. "It's hard to say. Maybe none, maybe four or five."
She didn't know either.
She only knew that the ancestors of the Four Ancient Families were at least at the peak of the seventh realm. Whether they had reached the eighth, she didn't know.
Chloe said, "Grimshale the Gu must be afraid of the Bennett family. He's probably already fled."
She pulled Larry and said, "Larry, Richard went through so much to find the Fire Lotus. If we just leave, his death would be in vain."
Paisley looked at Chloe and asked, "Where is the Fire Lotus?"
Chloe pointed to the steep volcano ahead. "At the top."
Paisley glanced at the steep volcano. "You two wait here. I'll go check."
She turned and leaped up, jumping over ten meters high, grabbing a rock to climb further.
Larry watched Chloe.
He couldn't believe that in just a few days, Chloe had become a third realm master, stronger than him.
He couldn't believe that the woman in front of him was the same person who needed protection not long ago.
"Honey, why are you looking at me like that?" Chloe asked shyly, lowering her head.
"Nothing," Larry said, taking a deep breath. "It's just surreal. It's unbelievable."
Chloe held Larry's hand firmly. "Honey, I'm not a vase anymore. I don't need your protection. I can help you now. Let me stay by your side, okay?"
