Chapter 399 Selling the Daughter
                    Larry was a walking contradiction.
On one hand, he didn't want to bother Abigail, but on the other, he really needed her help.
Abigail noticed the struggle in his eyes and chuckled softly, "Just tell me what you need me to do. And by the way, I don't work for free—I expect to be paid."
She used a light-hearted tone, hoping to ease Larry's burden.
Larry thought briefly before speaking slowly, "I'll try to gather the startup funds first. Once I have the money, we can discuss the details. In the meantime, you can start preparing. I'll contact you once everything is ready on my end."
"Alright, it's a deal," Abigail nodded.
She stood up and glanced towards the hospital building. She had wanted to visit Chloe, but remembering Chloe's misunderstanding of her, she decided against it. No need to make things awkward.
"I'll head back now," Abigail waved to Larry.
Larry watched her leave until she was out of sight, then turned and walked towards the hospital.
Now he was worried about the money.
Starting a company to take on VitaGen Medical required a significant amount of capital. But where could he get that kind of money?
Southwild could provide funds, but he didn't want Frank to make the same mistake again. If Alistair caught wind of it, they'd be in real trouble.
As he walked towards the patient rooms, an idea struck him—Xerxes.
Xerxes, the wealthy tycoon from the North, known as the "Mining King," was worth billions.
Borrowing some money from him shouldn't be a problem.
Outside Chloe's room, Larry saw that William and Sarah were already there, talking to Chloe.
He didn't go in. Instead, he took out his phone and found Esmeralda's number.
After a brief hesitation, he dialed.
The call connected quickly, and Esmeralda's cheerful voice came through, "Larry, you finally remembered to call me! Missed me?"
Larry felt a bit awkward and cleared his throat, "Esmeralda, is your dad home?"
"Oh, you're looking for my dad," Esmeralda's voice sounded a bit disappointed. "He's not home right now. I'll send you his number so you can contact him directly."
"Thanks."
"No problem."
Esmeralda hung up and soon sent Xerxes' number to Larry.
Taking a deep breath, Larry dialed Xerxes' number.
"Hello, who's this?" a hearty, rough voice answered.
"Xerxes, it's me, Larry."
"Larry! How have you been, kid?" Xerxes' tone immediately warmed up.
Larry felt a bit embarrassed, "I'm alright... Xerxes, I need to discuss something with you..."
He had never worried about money before, nor had he ever borrowed money from anyone. Asking now felt difficult.
"Come on, just tell me what's up!" Xerxes said cheerfully.
Larry took a deep breath, "Can you... Can you lend me some money?"
Xerxes paused, clearly surprised by the request.
After a brief silence, he laughed heartily, "I thought it was something serious! Money's no problem. How much do you need?"
Larry quickly calculated in his mind.
He had two goals for starting the company: to stop Alistair and directly compete with VitaGen Medical, and to amass enough wealth to prepare for the new king's ascension.
Of course, he knew the king had other candidates besides him.
"As much as possible."
He was broke and needed a substantial amount to get started.
Xerxes thought for a moment, "Alright, I'll give you half of my assets, but you need to take good care of Esmeralda's illness."
To Xerxes, Esmeralda was everything. He would spare no expense for his daughter.
If it were before, Larry would have refused outright. But now, he desperately needed the funds.
"Consider it a loan. I'll pay you back. And as for Esmeralda's illness, give me some time, and I'll cure her completely."
Larry was confident in the Against Heaven 81 Needles technique. Once he mastered Qi and the essence of the technique, curing Esmeralda wouldn't be a problem.
"Great! I'll come to Sunset City tomorrow."
After finalizing things with Xerxes, Larry felt a weight lift off his shoulders. Thank goodness for friends like Xerxes; otherwise, he wouldn't know what to do.
With the funding issue resolved, he entered the patient room.
As soon as he walked in, William and Sarah stood up, "Larry."
Larry waved them off, indicating they didn't need to be formal.
William picked up a bag from the table and handed it to Larry, "Larry, this contains VitaGen Medical's latest drugs. One is a highly effective cold and flu medicine, priced at just a dollar per pill. The other is a headache remedy, also very effective and well-received. Hospitals are lining up to collaborate with VitaGen Medical."
Sarah added, "These drugs are being heavily advertised as having no side effects."
Larry took the bag and nodded thoughtfully, "Got it. It's getting late; you two should go rest."
"Larry, the custom wheelchair will be delivered tomorrow," Sarah reported.
"Good," Larry nodded.
After saying their goodbyes, William and Sarah left the room.
Once they were gone, Chloe couldn't help but ask, "Honey, what were you talking about? I didn't understand any of it."
"Nothing important."
Larry took the bag and headed for the door. "You rest. I have something to take care of."
Before Chloe could respond, Larry left the room.
"Sigh..."
Chloe lay back on the bed and sighed.
In the hospital director's office, the director, a man in his fifties, was being particularly attentive.
"Sir, are you comfortable here at the hospital? If there's anything we can improve, please let me know."
The director was unusually enthusiastic towards Larry.
Larry waved him off, "I'm no longer the Black Dragon, not in service. You don't need to call me 'sir.'"
"Nonsense! To the soldiers of Summer Nation, you'll always be our Dragon Lord."
Larry cut him off and handed him the bag of drugs, "Get these analyzed. I need a detailed breakdown of the ingredients."
The director was momentarily stunned but quickly nodded, "Of course, right away."
He picked up the phone, "Callista, come to my office."
Soon, a young female doctor walked in.
She was about twenty-five or twenty-six, wearing a loose white coat, with a pretty face.
"Director, what is it?" she glanced at Larry before asking.
The director introduced her, "Sir, this is Leila Sharp, one of our top surgeons. She's also quite the cook."
Leila frowned, clearly displeased, "Director, if there's nothing else, I'll be going."
The director handed her the bag, "Take this to the lab and get a detailed analysis of these drugs."
"Yes, sir." Leila took the bag and left.
Larry also stood to leave, but the director quickly stopped him, a conspiratorial look on his face, "Sir, what do you think of Leila?"
"She's fine," Larry replied casually.
The director lowered his voice, "Want her number? I can give it to you. You should ask her out."
Larry couldn't help but laugh.
"Mr. Sharp, is she your daughter? Is this how you promote her?" Larry shook his head, "I'll head back to Chloe's room. Please send the results over when they're ready."
With that, he left the office without looking back, leaving the director scratching his head awkwardly.
