Chapter 477 Paisley's Doubt
The three of them retraced their steps back.
Larry kept checking his phone for a signal the entire way, but there was no reception in the Mount Aragon area.
After a full day of walking, they finally reached the parking spot.
Still no signal.
Larry had no choice but to drive back.
By the time they reached Harrison City, it was past 8 PM.
They grabbed a bite to eat and then found a hotel.
At the hotel front desk, Larry said, "Three rooms, please."
Chloe quickly interjected, "Two rooms."
Larry glanced at Chloe.
She pulled him aside and said, "We're married, why would we stay in separate rooms?"
The receptionist looked at Larry and asked, "Sir, how many rooms do you need?"
"Three," Larry insisted.
"Please provide your IDs for registration."
Larry handed over his ID, and so did Paisley and Chloe.
The receptionist found Larry's name familiar and muttered, "Larry... that name sounds so familiar, like I've heard it somewhere before."
She didn't dwell on it, completed the registration, and handed over the room keys.
As she looked up, she saw Larry's face and her heart skipped a beat.
She let out a gasp.
"Larry, are you Black Dragon Larry?" she exclaimed.
The receptionist, who looked to be in her twenties, wore a professional outfit with her long hair tied up, revealing a high forehead. She was quite pretty.
At this moment, her face was filled with shock and disbelief.
Larry took the room keys without saying much, handed one to Chloe and one to Paisley, and then headed upstairs.
"Oh my God, it's really Larry, the Supreme Commander of the Southwild Black Dragon Army. So cool," the receptionist murmured, still in shock. She quickly took out her phone and posted on social media.
"Guys, guess who I just saw? Larry, the Guardian War God of Summer Nation!"
Larry ignored the receptionist and went straight to his room.
Once inside, he sat on the bed and called Frank, who was far away in Southwild.
The call connected quickly, and Frank's voice came through, "Boss, you finally called."
Larry asked, "Did you find out what I asked you to investigate?"
Frank replied, "I couldn't make a big deal out of it, so no results yet."
"By the way, can you get me the Northern Commander's private number? I'm in Harrison City and need his help with something."
"Sure, give me a moment. I'll ask Amelia and send it to you."
Frank hung up, and Larry waited in his room.
Frank, now in charge of Southwild, could easily get the Northern Commander's number, especially since he was dating the Chieftain's daughter, Amelia.
Soon, Frank sent the number to Larry.
Larry dialed it immediately.
The call connected quickly.
"Hello, who is this?" a gruff voice answered.
"Larry," he said directly. "Chieftain, I'm in Harrison City and need a small favor."
"Haha, Larry! I've been wanting to have a drink with you, but I've been stuck at the border. What's up?" the Chieftain laughed heartily.
"I'm in Harrison City. I need some equipment to search a cave in Mount Aragon," Larry explained.
"You're in Harrison City? I'll come to you. We can discuss what you need in person."
The Chieftain's base was only a two-hour drive from Harrison City.
"Alright."
"See you soon."
"Okay."
Larry hung up and lit a cigarette.
He sat on the couch, thinking about the day's events and what Chloe had said.
If Richard wasn't lying and was indeed ambushed thirty years ago, who was the attacker?
And was Richard telling Chloe the truth?
He couldn't be sure.
Meanwhile, outside the room, Chloe and Paisley stepped out almost simultaneously and walked to Larry's door.
Chloe glanced at Paisley and asked, "You here to see Larry too?"
"Yeah," Paisley nodded. "I think something's off. I need to discuss it with him."
Chloe asked, "What's off?"
"Let's talk inside," Paisley suggested, knocking on the door.
Larry opened it quickly.
"Come in," he said.
Once inside, Larry asked, "What's up?"
Paisley looked at Chloe before speaking, "Larry, I think something's fishy. A lot of things don't add up."
Larry looked at Paisley and asked, "What's fishy?"
Paisley explained, "You just unlocked the secret of the Artwork of Moonlit. Only my grandfather Cody, you, me, and Esmeralda knew about it. How did Grimshale the Gu find out and capture Richard and Chloe to lure you to Mount Aragon?"
Larry found it puzzling, too.
He had only cracked the Artwork of Moonlit's secret after absorbing Esmeralda's cold energy.
Paisley continued, "And Richard, your grandfather, has too many mysteries. How did he know the secret of the Artwork of Moonlit and come here to find the Fire Lotus?"
Larry frowned and asked, "What are you getting at?"
Paisley said, "The box from Victor Veil's excavation, the key was with Sue, who gave it to you. You were the first to open the box and see the meridian map. Not many people saw it. Richard had no reason to have seen it. So how did he know the secret of the Artwork of Moonlit and come here for the Fire Lotus?"
Larry asked, "So?"
Paisley concluded, "So, Richard must have seen the meridian map long ago. He orchestrated the tomb robbery. Maybe he got it decades ago and only recently staged this drama."
Chloe snapped, "Paisley, what are you implying? Richard is dead, and you still want to drive a wedge between him and Larry?"
Paisley glanced at her and said calmly, "I'm not trying to drive a wedge. I'm just stating the facts. Maybe..."
She paused and continued, "Maybe Richard knew Larry had discovered he was alive, so he staged this to make Larry think he was dead again, to make the world think he was dead again. Who knows what he's planning behind the scenes?"
Larry looked at Chloe and asked, "Chloe, is that true?"
"Honey, don't listen to her nonsense. Richard isn't like that," Chloe insisted.
