Chapter 508 The Person Locked in the Depths of the Dungeon
Just looking the part won't be enough to fool anyone.
She also needs the Bennett family's signature skill, the Heavenly Thirteen Swords.
Paisley had never seen the manual or the sword techniques written down, but she'd grown up following Cody around and had watched him practice. She'd secretly memorized the moves.
Now, she just needs to imitate the form, and at the critical moment, she can bluff her way through.
But there isn't much time.
Two days at most.
Within two days, she must learn enough to deceive others.
Chloe thought it over. This was the only way to save Larry now. Paisley was willing to risk her life to save Larry—how could she give up?
She nodded firmly and said, "I'll do my best."
"Good. You should gather the Cabinet Room's strongest fighters first. I'm worried we'll run out of time."
"Okay, will do."
Paisley went to Sunset City to discuss things with Chloe.
Meanwhile, Larry was taken to the Western Territory.
The Western Territory is located in the west of Summer Nation.
It's a vast area with many cities. Along its borders are several countries, all quite powerful. Guarding the Western Territory is the Free Army. In recent years, though, the Western Territory has been peaceful, and the Western Territory Army commander, Free, was transferred to Sunset City.
Western Territory, Westling City.
This is a major city in the Western Territory, and an ancient city with a thousand years of history.
Westling City, suburbs.
There's a mountain here.
It's called Mount Westling.
Locally, this is forbidden ground.
No one can get near Mount Westling because it's constantly guarded by troops. Outsiders can't get close at all.
This is the Rivera family's headquarters.
Mount Westling, at the summit.
There are quite a few villas here.
One villa.
Victor rushed back.
"Father, Larry has been brought back. We've locked him in the dungeon. I've also notified Cody to bring Paisley to the Bennett Manor within three days to apologize."
On the sofa sat a man in his fifties, wearing a suit, looking like a successful businessman or entrepreneur—not at all like a martial practitioner.
He is the current head of the Rivera family, Atlas Rivera.
Atlas nodded slightly. "Good work. Since the Bennett family has done something that dishonors the Rivera family, this marriage can't happen. And I want to announce to the world that the Rivera family is Summer Nation's strongest clan. The Four Ancient Families, The Zephyr Order—in the Rivera family's eyes, they're nothing."
Victor sat down and smiled. "Father, after this, our Rivera family will be famous throughout the land. At the upcoming conference, we'll become the new alliance leader, support a new king, unify the whole world, and become the world's ruler."
"Hahaha..."
Atlas laughed heartily. "You really understand me."
"By the way, Father, how far have you gotten with the Tenfold Tranquil Palms? Have you mastered the final palm strike? I heard in Aurora Citadel that the Bennett family is powerful, that Cody has likely entered the seventh realm, and the Heavenly Thirteen Swords isn't just an empty reputation. If it comes to a real fight, do you have a chance of defeating Cody? And..."
Victor paused, then continued, "I heard the Bennett family has even more terrifying figures, and more than one. Cody's father, his grandfather—they might still be alive, and their power must be unfathomable."
Atlas waved his hand dismissively. "No need to worry. If the Bennett family has trump cards, doesn't the Rivera family have them too?"
"Yes."
Victor nodded and said no more.
Atlas instructed, "The invitations are ready. Send family members across the country. Invite all the famous martial practitioners in the nation. I want to announce that the Rivera family is taking control of this world."
His expression darkened. "From now on, those who follow us will prosper, those who oppose us will perish."
"As you command."
Victor stood up and nodded. "I'll do it right away."
He turned and left.
...
At the summit of the Western Territory mountain, there's a dungeon.
The Rivera family built it to imprison clan members who committed crimes.
The dungeon entrance is under a rock at the summit. After entering, there's a path extending deep underground for over a hundred meters before reaching the actual dungeon.
Right now, in the dungeon.
Larry had been thrown into a dark, damp cell.
His body was immobilized, unable to move at all.
He tried to break free from the restraint, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't do it.
"Damn it."
Veins bulged on his face as he let out a curse.
"Break!"
He suddenly activated the Heavenly Force Qigong. Powerful Qi gathered together to impact the sealing force.
Pop!
An explosion seemed to sound inside his body.
Larry's body bounced up from the ground.
He shot several feet into the air, then crashed hard back down.
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
The forced impact caused his blood and Qi to churn. Unable to suppress it, he was injured and coughed up blood.
He endured the pain in his body and got up from the ground, scanning his surroundings.
This was a dark dungeon. The walls were iron bars, and outside the bars was dim lighting. In that light, he could barely make out his surroundings. There were many cells around, with other people imprisoned in them.
He walked to the iron door.
The door was locked.
He grabbed the lock and pulled with all his strength.
Crack!
The sound of the breaking lock echoed through the silent dungeon.
Larry quickly rushed out.
He looked at the passages on both sides.
After a brief hesitation, he chose to go deeper.
He didn't rashly try to leave, because he knew there must be powerful fighters outside. He couldn't break through now. He headed deeper into the dungeon.
The underground path twisted and turned, extending deeper underground.
Larry didn't know how deep it went.
But he could tell this was an underground cave, not man-made but naturally formed. Deep underground, there might be another exit.
He walked for about half an hour.
He found he'd reached a dead end.
There was no path ahead.
"No way out?"
He frowned slightly.
There was no more light here. Everything around was pitch black.
But as a martial artist, his vision was much better than ordinary people's. Even in complete darkness, he could make out the general layout.
Clang, clang, clang!
Just as he was looking around for a path, the sound of chains being pulled suddenly came from the darkness.
"Who's there?"
Larry reacted immediately and spun around.
As he turned, a face came right at him.
This startled him badly. His body quickly retreated several steps as he stared at the face, finally seeing clearly.
This was a person bound by chains on all four limbs. He had white hair all over his head, a full beard, and was floating in mid-air, his sunken eyes staring intently at Larry.
"Who are you?" Larry asked coldly, on guard.
The person floating in mid-air descended and stood steadily on the ground.
His body moved, pulling the chains on him.
A lazy, hoarse voice came: "Kid, who are you? What are you doing here? Are you one of the Rivera family's younger generation?"
Larry frowned.
He didn't know who this person was, but being imprisoned here, he must be an enemy of the Rivera family.
He walked over and said, "How could I possibly be from the Rivera family?"
In his view, the enemy of his enemy is his friend.
This person imprisoned here must also be a martial artist. If they could work together, maybe they could break out.
